Daikatana, Duke Nukem Forever--yeah there are worse development stories than MN9.

Still--kinda annoyed it's being pushed back---AGAIN. I just want mah MM fix.  O^O

OBJECTION MAN

Everyone is blaming Comcept and Inafune, but isn't Inti really the ones developing this game? People seem to be glossing over Inti in this whole endeavor.

Not that I want to throw Inti under the bus, but it is not like they don't have any experience in 3D games... In fact one of their first games, if not THE first, was 3D.

Inafune isn't a programmer that I am aware. He really has nothing to do with the technical failures of the project in that regard. (Though he hasn't helped tensions with his arrogant attitude toward this and Red Ash...)

Unfortunately people tend not to look at the details when looking for someone or something to blame, and I honestly forgot Inti was involved.  They just go for the face, in this case Inafune, and I cite him as being hopelessly naive than arrogant but it doesn't seem to make any difference at this point.

Not to mention the majority people don't do their damn research anyway, like I said there are still people spreading lies about the game originally being 2D and shifting to ugly 3D based on the concept art and not the trailers.  Though I do agree if it was 2D maybe it might have gone over better, especially since Inti has much more experience in 2D.

OBJECTION MAN

Yeah, see? I even had to remind myself when reading about it "hey wait remember Inti is the dev here...".

As far as 2D vs 3D? Doing high res 2D artwork would have been IMPOSSIBLE with their budget. Not even with double the money I bet. There was absolutely NO way it could even have been considered.

Wow that steep?   Guess it goes to show just how little the average gamer know about game development.

Honestly? Another delay is bullshit and he knows it.

Just ship it without the network features, the main mode itself should still be complete right?

I guess all I can really say is it isn't exactly what I'd expect out of a $4.4M game

It doesn't even have mouth animations

That's kind of the whole point of the "creator vs businessman" discussion, though.  More than a few times we've heard of what hell they're experiencing based on the decision to release on so many platforms.  The criticism by the fans, at least in my eyes, is not that the devs aren't pulling their weight, but rather that the plan of action was unrealistic.

Call me an ass if you must, but this just makes me glad that Red Ash is Fuze's problem now.

Bolded for emphasis; Going for multiplatform on as many platforms as they did was a terrible choice. That's a lot pf different architectures to take into account.

The impression I got is that going for all systems in itself is good, going for online in itself is good, but going for both is a nightmare.  Single-player has been complete since before the second delay, that's part of what's grinding a lot of fans' nerves.  They still see MN9 as little beyond a Mega Man successor, and Mega Man is traditionally a single-player game (not that I wouldn't LOVE for something to change that).

I will say that, as much as there's no real way for the delay to not suck, I do respect Inafune for sticking to his guns in the face of adversity.  The point has been made that licensing would not allow him to simply cut and re-add multiplayer at a later point, but I'm sure he's seen plenty of pressure to release it in a broken state and leave it at that; not as if there aren't bigger devs/publishers out there who wouldn't have done exactly that in his situation.

For what it's worth I still trust Inafune's intentions.  But the fact that it takes more than good intentions is why I'm still glad Red Ash's Kickstarter failed.  Can you imagine the [parasitic bomb] storm that there would be if that game was trying to maintain an open development community in the midst of all this?

According to the Steam forums, people who received the game by donating to the Kickstarter had their game codes removed from their library. Some people who pre-ordered the game are reporting the same thing. This makes me nervous...

Phi

This is one disaster after another.

MN9 better be the best goddamn game of all time for the nonsense people are put through.

Sakura Leic

I'm hoping it's just some stupid mistake, but I'm not getting my hopes up until we get an answer.  But yeah I really pity and feel sorry for Comcept, and the fans too.  Honestly I've just grown numb after all this, I mean I can handle delays no problem, even if I agree in a way that they should just release the single player campaign and then patch in the online, but everything else is kind of ridiculous.

I was going to pre-order it when I went into the discussions. I thought they might have some news of a possible release date. I found that nugget instead. Needless to say, I chose not to pre-order right now.

Sakura Leic

Yeah I don't really bother with pre ordering stuff anymore, I was planning on getting it during a Steam Sale after it releases.

Can you provide a link?

Psycho Yuffie

Oh, I think this was for the beta that backers got--not pre-orders. I think.

Is a link.

Police Girl

Huh, I always thought they decided against putting the Beta on Steam (It was originally planned as a time-limited thing) in favor of making everybody eligible for it able to redeem a DRM-Free version off Humble Bundle instead.

I checked that and noticed I still had mine.

If it turns out to be like Duke Nukem Forever or Evolve, I'm going to be pissed, especially since I pre-ordered the dammed thing for Wii U.

OBJECTION MAN

Yeah, there was no official release codes yet. Just beta stuff. No cause for alarm.

Seems they're aiming for a late June release, and seem to be sure this time, hopefully they can make it.  Anyone happen to know when the Summer Steam Sale is?

I hope they can make the release date this time, because I'm legit really worried about the dev team's emotional well-being at this point--life keeps dumping on them and everyone's calling Inafune nasty things, even though I sincerely doubt that all of the blame can be laid on him.
