Honestly, considering all the fan games out there, all the custom soundtracks and everything of the ilk, why not make a totally customizable Megaman Universe, with constant downloadable content and the like.
EXACTLY~
And honestly, if this game follows in the footsteps of the likes of Modnation Racers and LBP, we can probably expect that a fairly standardized campaign mode will be a part of the mix. If nothing else, Microsoft's rather strict guidelines dictate that you can't just ship out basically a "sandbox shovelware" game and expect that to fly. In the meanwhile, the genius that was MMPU's level-creator could truly stand to be appreciated as it takes a life of its own in a way that it will be appreciated on more mainstream consoles than the PSP's.
They seem to be marketing in our direction, yes, probably because recent MegaMan titles have sold better here than in Japan. Inafune has expressed disgust with Japan's gaming tastes before.
And honestly, it goes along with what Capcom has been doing in these last few years. Growing increasingly frustrated with the Japanese market, Inafune and Capcom have been using that as all the fuel necessary to turn their sights westward.
Lost Planet, Dead Rising, Street Fighter 4 and Resident Evil 5 were all DEFINITELY western-oriented. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom was basically a flop in Japan, and served more as a stepping stone towards what served to help make a case for MvC3. I'm sure whenever the likes of DMC5 and Ono's new project are unveiled, they more than likely will play to this same aspect.
If they want to try and switch things up a bit for the sake of marketing? Fine. I just hope that some where, a line will be drawn, before Capcom too subscribes to the notion of "next gen brown + bloom" and "moar bald space marines".
