The preview build is loads of fun. It feels like Megaman was the inspiration but not the bible for this game. I really like the new mechanics in it.
The dash absorbing is brilliant. It completely changes how you approach combat and enemy formations. You have to sort of un-learn the Megaman combat approach, but once you understand that it becomes loads of fun.
I'm currently still writing my feedback report for Comcept, but I'll give a TL:DR rundown for now.
The buffs you get for absorbing enemies is very confusing in the moment. Since it changes the properties of how your shooting and movement work it can really throw you off for the moments after it activates. For example, suddenly getting the movement speed buff can cause you to slam head on into an enemy or trap as your speed increases instantly. Likewise whether or not you can shoot through walls depends on if you have the attack buff. This wearing off suddenly can momentarily trash your expectations of behavior enough to throw you off. I don't like this mechanic really at all. I think these abilities should be some sort of equipment or upgrade for purchase using in game currency. Maybe instead you get a special boost of money earned by absorbing under certain conditions?
The landmines don't have sufficient animation to make them pop out from the background, leaving me sometimes running into one without realizing.
We REALLY need voice work. Text can often get completely ignored or unnoticed during gameplay. The font is too small and doesn't pop enough for those kinds of messages during gameplay.
More impressions to come later.
