Man, I just came back from work and now the Neogaf thread on Wii2 is just hard to catch up, oh my...

Oh man, imagine a Star Fox game with the controller screen showing radar and making Gundam like sounds as missiles & such are incoming.
I just wanted to say that I hate you for making me want this now XD

Or imagine Slippy showing up on the controller screen to ask for help! XD

Or perhaps an F-Zero game in which the controller screen has the speedometer and a rear view mirror!  8D

Might as well

Quotehttp://gameolosophy.com/consoles/wii/rumour-pikmin-coming-to-project-cafe-nintendo-talking-with-rockstar/

There is a lot of rumors being thrown around about the Wii, and some people I know who work close with Nintendo have been dropping me some rumors.  Even though I trust these people since they've been right on many past rumors (a 3D DS,  Donkey Kong Country Returns, etc), please understand everything below is a rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt.

**Rumors from highly reliable sources below**

Some key inside sources have told me that Nintendo has moved Pikmin 3 from the original Wii to their new console, which is currently being codenamed, "Project Cafe".  I have been told that this new Pikmin game will indeed be at E3 in video form.  When Pikmin 3 was in development, a decision was made that the boosted graphics from the next Nintendo console would add an extra benefit to create more realistic grass, dirt, mud, rocks, and water in the game.  The extra graphics horsepower would allow little extra environment details that couldn't be done on the original Wii.  People who have seen the game have told me that it looks drop dead gorgeous.

Another thing I've been told is that Nintendo is trying to build a better relationship with Rockstar Games to get them to throw major support on the next Nintendo console.  They are trying to persuade Rockstar into believing that franchises like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption can work on this next Nintendo console.  From what I'm hearing, Nintendo realizes that Rockstar pulls a lot of weight with older gamers, and they would like to see Rockstar play a bigger key role to attract a key demographic.  This isn't unbelievable since Rockstar put Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on the DS, and "Manhunt 2″ on the Wii.

OBJECTION MAN

This notion of replacing buttons with a customizable touch screen setup does not appeal to me. I will not play a game with just bumpers/triggers. I want physical face buttons.

Yes, it's a deal breaker.

Liara T'Soni: It is a luxury resort with an... exotic edge.  Azure is slang for a part of the asari body in some places on Illium.
Shepard: Where?
Liara: The lower reaches, near the bottom.
Shepard: I meant, "where on the asari body?"
Liara: So did I.

it's wishful think but I wish Nintendo makes this region free for once. We had to neuter SNES and N64, use the conversion cart inside the Hogan's alley (5 screws) game for the NES, and Modchip the GC and Wii already. Make it easy on us this time like Sony did.

Who said they're replacing buttons. As far as I know, they're just adding a 6" touchscreen, not getting rid of buttons.

Furthermore, you really think the devs that anonymously gave their remarks on how "this system isn't like Wii [it's not a gimmick]" whatever the [tornado fang] that's supposed to imply would embrace it so willingly with something that unorthodox?

One mention of LEGENDS and everyone goes batshit.  :\

Yep, every time when someone mentions that game people get energized for an apparent reason whatsoever. It's like this everywhere else, trust me.

It got really messy to find my sprite and comic topic, so it's in my sig.

The Wii uses motion to supplement, rather than replace, the use of physical buttons.  I get what Objection is saying, and I share similar ergonomic preferences, but I don't think he has anything to worry about either.  I can't imagine Nintendo would throw an all-touch controller at us.  As PB said, all reports, not to mention simple logic, point to an addition rather than a replacement.

I sure as hell hope so. As an addition it isn't a bad idea, except that additional controllers will probably be like 100$ now.

The touch screen controller sounds WAY too suspicious...

But if it's true, it will be like playing with an iPhone.

Debunked, but here's something of a consolation prize:

Quotepeople PEOPLE PEOPLE!!

01net (the NGP people) has reported a June 2012 launch with Rockstar on board and GTV5 coming soon, along with the console being SIGNIFICANTLY MORE POWERFUL THAN THE XBOX 360.

So it could be true anyways.

Jim Reily @ Twitter:

QuoteThe next big scoop on the Nintendo console is a picture of the controller. I wonder if someone will get one.

I think it's funny how so many people are seeing the matter of horsepower as a radical departure from Nintendo's established style, when their benchmark for performance comparisons is nearing 6 years old.

Anyways, on the controller, I see the bizarro-Nintendo-hook here as being that the controller has a screen in the first place.  That it's touch-sensitive is just a Nintendo expectation these days.

NO WAY is the touch screen alone replacing all other inputs.  The thing wouldn't have sticks, which were already confirmed, if that was the case.  Besides, Nintendo got a lesson in that waaay back when the DS first launched, with Super Mario 64 and the DSphat's thumb strap that everyone forgot about.

I'll say now the same thing I said when the Wii remote was first shown years ago: If it's backwards compatible, it must accept old or comparable controllers.  End of story.

I'll believe it when i see it. These rumors are way to fishy considering Nintendo's track record. They've always been known to focus more on gameplay than graphics. I'm standing at a 80% chance that it will have 360 graphics at least and slightly less powerful than [late era] PS3. I don't see the point in trying to surpass it. (I'll admit that i would still be surprised nonetheless if it had 360 graphics)

As for the HD-screen controller, the concept sounds pretty sweet to me. But that would probably increase the price to a risky amount, considering your getting a HD console as well. I'm not very good at estimation of sales/figures but i'm pretty sure that wouldn't be a smart route to take. Again, all speculation but i'm really pumped and will get it day one whether it has great horsepower or not. >_>

Krystal

At the moment I'm just imagining a cross between a 3DS and the Wii and with a 360/PS3. Don't mind me.

That's pretty much what I'm thinking as well.

That and a new StarTropics as well as you dressed as Captain Syrup! XD

Acid

So has anything been confirmed yet?

Other than "Nintendo's making a new system" everything seems to be pure speculation.

Firstly:  It's not so far-fetched to think that Nintendo can make a console that'll outperform the 360 in terms of raw power.  Afterall, the 360 is six years old now, and while its graphics are impressive, they're hardly earth-shattering.  It's not as though the thing could run Crysis on full settings.

Secondly, the "HD" thing regarding the controller screen is really a misnomer.  There are no HD screens that small.  Granted, it would definitely be high-definition in the sense that the PSP is high-definition compared to the Gameboy.  But actual HD?  No.

Wasn't the Gamecube pretty strong? Stronger than XBox and PS2?
