The 3DS version of this just came out yesterday.

I kept falling in the water on Perfect Chaos! Rawr! I gave up because I just can't beat it. At the end, where you have to jump across floating platforms, the last one before you can hit Chaos has a spring board. I jump on it and bonk my head on the platform above me and then fall to my death--every friggin' time! How am I supposed to get on that platform?

You've gotten there too quick, wait a few seconds then spring up and it should work.

As for boring levels, yeah, that's what I heard.  Every level that isn't copy/pasted from a Genesis game is nothing but "hold right and boost" apparently.

"Rush vs. Genesis" was never really my idea of an ideal game formula anyway, but I do still intend to pick up the 3DS version.  For some reason I thought it was coming out later than this.

Picked up the 3DS version yesterday and I'm liking it a lot better than I did at NYCC so far.  It's one of those games that isn't a bad game in itself, but at the same time provides plenty for its fans to [sonic slicer] about.  Most of it we knew up front: The two Sonics are both sidescrolling, the first three Classic-style stages are direct ports, etc.  Cleared Green Hill, Casino Night, Mushroom Hill, Metal Sonic, and Big Arm.  The Modern stages are really meant for Boost abuse so far, I admit, but then so was pretty much any stage in Rush that didn't throw bottomless pits at you.  And Modern Casino Night definitely stands up to the best that Rush ever offered, no question.

Modern Mushroom Hill (the level I played at NYCC) is so far the weakest stage, both for sudden movements making it near impossible to see what's going on, and for resorting to the dreaded "press B to not die" routine at the end.  Thankfully, the other levels have so far not followed that pattern.

Special Stage mechanics are, as earlier reported IIRC, taken directly from Heroes.  You grab balloons to keep boosting, and dodge bombs.  So far, Modern Sonic's had an exclusive hold on Specials while Classic Sonic's the only one taking bosses.

The game is so far rather easy, and I can tell it's going to be short, since the emeralds are spread out one-per-zone (yeah, there's Mission Mode and all that too, but still).  Stages are gorgeous, character models are decent, music rocks many socks.  Cutscenes are...not amazing, but thankfully short.

Dreamcast levels (Emerald Coast and Radical Highway) are coming up next.  Classic Sonic learns how to Homing Attack when you reach them, which...kinda defeats the point of Classic Sonic, doesn't it?  Yeah, like I said, plenty for fans to [sonic slicer] about, but still good.

Okay, 3DS full zone/boss list is as follows:

-Green Hill (STH)
-Casino Night (STH2)
-Mushroom Hill (S&K)
-Metal Sonic (SCD)
-Big Arm (STH3)
-Emerald Coast (Adventure)
-Radical Highway (Adventure2)
-Shadow (Adventure 2)
-Biolizard (Adventure 2)
-Water Palace (Rush)
-Tropical Resort (Colors)
-Silver (2006)
-Egg Emperor (Heroes)
-Time Eater

The bosses are divided up among the Sonics according to which era they come from (Classic takes Metal Sonic and Big Arm, Modern takes the rest, and as expect both are involved against Time Eater).  Metal Sonic, Shadow, and Silver are all races, not battles, although the latter two can get awfully aggressive in how they try to slow you down.  Classic Sonic learns the Homing Attack (kinda STH4-ish in terms of its handling) after beating Big Arm, and Modern Sonic learns the stomp after beating Biolizard.  Also, in Tropical Resort, Classic Sonic finds the Flame Burst wisp (DS) and Modern Sonic finds the Laser wisp (Wii).

BTW, Modern Sonic is less Rush style and more Colors sidescrolling style (except with the traditional jump-dash instead of the double-jump).  The difference is, Rush focuses a lot on springboard tricks and generally disregards the homing attack.

So they decided to forgo an Unleashed level in favor of a Rush level I see.

...When Larry the reploid accountant goes maverick of his own accord, he's certainly formidable during tax season, but he isn't going to provide X the challenge needed to make him grow as a warrior and reach his potential.

Finally got it from gamefly on friday night, and just platted it yesterday.

Overall, easily the most fun Sonic game since SA1 and 2. Also a plus for the PS3 version actually being able to use custom tracks (not the in game track select).

My only issues with it were that a few times, Modern sonic's levels essentially turned into Classics with the 2D side scrolling areas. =/

- no Ice Cap, etc.

-Sea Side Hill. All of my WHY? Seriously it was the shittiest level in the game, why not Final Fortress or Rail Canyon? Something else other than Rooftop Run would have been nice as well. Like Eggmans theme park.

-There are times when the camera would get stuck in certain angels, which screws you up a lot.

-It could have used a data install feature

-GODDAMN RED RING 1 IN CITY ESCAPE! and the like, etc etc.

-I wanted to like planet Wisp since it looked awesome, but the gimmicky gear thing got annoying. =/

As far as the in game tracks went, I pretty much used Un-gratify and Free 90% of the time. Overall a 8.5 out of 10. It loses  half a point after I did the online attack thing on all stages and suddenly realized that you can clear the main game in like an hour and a half. ;__;

I don't know why everybody complains about Rooftop Run in this game.  I think Act 2 was my favorite stage in the game, personally.

Rail Canyon was horrible. Plus it means that almost the entire level would be on rails.

Seaside Hill is just eye candy. Though maybe something like Hang Castle would have been better? I can imagine the pside down gimmicm being interesting for classic sonic.

I just got the game.

It brings a smile to my face, and Sky sanctuary brought a tear to my eye.

only wish it did not assume I have a large LCD tv and came with size options. tiny text makes my eyes hurt.

Yeah, one actual thing that bugs about Sky Sanctuary though is putting 3 of the 5 Red Rings right at the very end, only able to get one per playthrough of the level. Didn't take that long to get all of 'em, but still seemed rather odd compared to the other levels.

Also, at least the downscaling isn't as horribly jagged as Unleashed's. I was able to read things alright on my fair-sized roundscreen I've still got lying around.

I got the 3DS, but I haven't tried it yet but I do like having Sonic on the go. Sounds interesting so far for the 3DS.

Now the console version... should I go with the 360 or PS3 version? Hmm... I could expand on my PS3 as out of my three next-gen consoles (Wii, 360, PS3) this one is lacking the most, as there's not all of good PS3 games that catch my eyes (though Heavy Rain looks amazing... and I can't wait to grab Tales of Graces f in March).

In the way of PS3 vs. 360, I think the only difference anyone has really noticed is some apparent pixelation in the first cutscene on 360. Unlike Unleashed, both games are capped at 30fps I do believe. I'm on PS3 version myself and it runs fine, with the only brief drop of frames when too much crap is getting destroyed on screen. Namely, stomping through a bunch of boxes in Crisis City and some rubble falling around me in Sky Sanctuary (ala Jungle Joyride now that I think about it). Not sure if this is present on the 360, but I doubt one version was optimized better over the other if they've been set at the same frame limit.

I never had any slowdowns on 360. It's a great version and I recommend it. ^^b
Cutscenes are not rendered in real time, because they are streamed video clips, downsampled to fit on the disc.

All cutscenes had a varying degree of pixelation on 360, but the framerate might be a tad higher. Otherwise, PS3 version has longer load times and longer save times. But that's true for nearly every game. There might also be more stuttering in spots. I recall a near freeze when playing Speed Highway on PS3.

I beat the 3DS version already. It's an okay game, but not something I recommend getting at full price. It's more of a rental.


What happens in Vegas stays on Youtube. I also stream on Twitch from time to time.

So I just got this for the PS3 on Xmas.

Pretty fun, its really short as I've noticed, I'm already at Rooftop Run.

That clock hand gimmick in Act 1 can go kill itself, its [tornado fang]ing terrible, other than that the game is also really easy, I've ended up getting S ranks in almost every level without much effort (The missions are the only places where its not S ranks across the board.)

I will say its quite annoying for the game to have to save every single time I quit out of a level.

Really? I found them more fun than the later classic stages.

Anywho, other than playing all the levels in Ranking attack I'm done with the game already. Short but sweet, gotta say I hated how slow that last boss was. I was thinking the laser it shoots counted as getting hit but I guess it didn't.

Maybe the game was simply too easy, other than Planet Wisp Classic I easily got S-Ranks like they were nothing.
