SOLD~!
...Nice singing O_oa People want me to try WRPGs but idk. As long as I don't have creepy fake people in my face all the time.
Which WRPGs are you talking about with the "fake people"? Oblivion? Graphics really aren't that bad. Do you just play games with stylized people, no realistic-looking faces at all?

Okay, understood.
I'll try to get Burnout for either PC or PSP one of these days. Seems like a fun game. : D
I'll also pick up KOTOR1 when I have the time (and money).

Thanks.
I'll PM you a good link.

Well mostly I don´t like any RPG that has random encounters and the battles are really just the classic turn based battles...The only appeal is their story and characters...but if the gameplay is boring and repetive it happens that I forget playing it.
Also I can´t stand games where I have to use a guide.
Oh, as I said, I like horror games...as long as I am not playing them, alone, with the lights turned off...I´ve played Clocktower once...for 10 minutes...paranoia for a week.
MMOs always seemed to me like timewaster with no real payoff.
RTS...I´m not that great of a strategist..especially not videogame strategy so I would end up getting my sorry butt kicked.

Also simulators and dating games...you have no chance of convincing me playing those.
I'm repeating myself alot in terms of recomendations, but why don't you try out a western RPG? The battles are more strategic in nature and ALOT more immediate, no boring turn-based repetitive animations, the characters just do the immediate moves, and although turn-based systems still work, the battles themselves look seamless.

As for horror, there are plenty of horror-entry games. You just gotta find where in the scale you locate.
Play Resident Evil 4, which is an action game with a few scares and horror elements. Then play something like Dead Space, a direct evolution of that concept into scarier territory.

It really depends on the MMO too. I hate the tedious grind, but when it comes to something like Phantasy Star Online, where you directly control your character and it feels more like a linear level progression with co-op buddies and rad bosses, I love it. You can also play the Spiral Knights beta, which is basically old-style Zelda on PC.

While RTS? Try Pharaoh. Not only it makes you feel incredibly good, but it's one hell of a game. You start out with two dingy sheds in the desert, then when you notice, you got a badass civlization.

And "simulation" has alot of definitions. You probably played a few already. What kinds of simulation are you talking about? Because you're not giving them a chance.

Actually I have the MGS series, but I haven't had the time to play it yet.
None of them? Well, what time like the present? MGS1 is the best-aged game there is. Still handles brilliantly.

Just throw something at me.
First, tell us your non-tastes and games you haven't given a chance to yet.

Well..to be honest I've never found WRPGs that appealing. Played Fallout and Elder Scroll I believe and I quit after one hour or so.
Most Horror games I've played were FPS(Half life, Doom, Unreal, Return to castle Wolfenstein). Clocktower was so frightening for me because you can't fight back.

Age of Empires 1 and 2,Soldiers of anarchy. I had fun with these games but each of them had thing that kept me from playing them more often.
AoE - the campaigns...yeah I never played them. Nobody I knew played them. Everyone played and enjoyed the free mode where you just build your own city and wait till you get to the highest age. Once you had it all built, everything evolved to the max and the enemy defeated there wasn't really much else to do... I replayed it a few times but then I lost interest. As I said the campaigns weren't as fun so those lost my interest really fast.
Soldier of anarchy - I bet if I was a RTS fan I would love this game. It's surely an underrated gem, and that is saying something from someone who doesn't play RTS. Not sure if anyone here knows this game but it's set in a post-apocalyptic world. An army group was cut off from civilization and only after years decided to check out what happened to the rest of the world.
You don't control an army of nameless mooks. Each character has it's own name and story and you get to meet more people that will join you. The story is pretty good...I wish I was able to get further.
This game is HARD! You have to carefully plan each and every move. I needed more than 3 hours to beat the first mission. I strongly recommend it for RTS fans though.

Simulators- I mostly mean those like flight simulator/train simulator/truck simulator. Where you drive a vehicle like in real life. Video games are escapism to me, I don't want to be reminded of real life!
My dad loves these games though.
I've played Sims and Sims 2. I've enjoyed it but the fun didn't last long. I stopped played it when I realised that I'm playing a simulation of everyday life...

EDIT: It looks like that besides MMOs I've played a game from each genre I don't like...

There are very different kinds of WRPGs. Try playing a Bioware one, like KOTOR or Mass Effect. Jade Empire is amazing for beginners. Those are more story-focused, and less focused on big worlds full of nothing.

Every single FPS you have mentioned is NOT a horror game. At all. Horror games are stuff like Silent Hill, Project Zero or Amnesia.

And there are lots more RTS-type games. Warcraft 3 is great for beginners.

In terms of simulators, none of those really remind you of real life. Mostly because simulators are means to simulate situations where you'd never be in real life, in absolutely amazing environments and in great situations. Want to relax? Try a virtual sailing game. Want to feel a bit of freedom? Try a flight simulator. Those can be absolutely amazing, you feel incredibly free and relaxed trying out a game with no strict objectives, just trying out stuff in an awesome way.

And if you want to try MMOs, here:
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcDGIUDB0Xw[/youtube]
A Zelda-like RPG that runs on pretty much any computer.

Lol, good sir, new gen games aren't a possibility for me.
Also there is a psychological reason I don't play RPGs that often. While playing a RPG I can swear that I hear inside my head some nerd yelling "YOU ARE DOING IT WROOOONG!". No really.
Oh, I know that the games I mentioned aren't real horror games. After all I've mentioned that I can't play those longer than a few minutes :D
Also..I had my fair share with RTS. I've played others too but as I said, it's not really my type of games.
...Spiral knights isn't even out yet...

Why aren't they a possibility for you?

And everyone plays RPGs in their own way. That's why they're called Role-Playing Games.

And if you're scared of every little thing, play Luigi's Mansion. The closest to Baby's First Horror Game there is, and IMO, one of the best Cube titles.

Spiral Knighta has just gone into beta. Apply.

Speaking of which, a reminder. This topic isn't just for the purpose of suggesting games, you're supposed to tell and photograph (if you can) your experience with the game as you play it.

Now, I need to confirm who really is in it, how the availability of these games is for you, which games you REALLY want to play, and when will you start.

Krystal: Super Robot Wars (I'm not familiar with this franchise, but there's a DS title released in the US, I think.)
Kharaxel: Burnout Legends/Dominator or Paradise
Carlos Santana: God of War
Me: Goldeneye 007 (will eventually do Layton)
Blackhook: Resi 3's not really a good game to get started in horror, but it's still a great game. I would recomend the REmake or 2 before, though.
Protoman Blues: MGS1, then?

EDIT: For the lack of confirmations and current boredom, I am beginning my own playthrough of Goldeneye.

Alright, let's see, I gotta create a new save file. Oooooh, Gamecube controller useable. Thank God. I like the wiimote for aiming, but it's a mess when it comes to turning. We'll see how the c-stick handles camera.
Intro movie's pretty cool. Anyway, starting game now.

Looks like my EMulator can't play Resi 3 for some reason..oh well. Atleast I had a back up plan:
Star Wars-Knights of the old republic
Well, my first WRPG in years...I can compare it to the JRPG entry I'm doing at the same time: Persona 2 Innocent sin.
And let us pick our main character...wow. They really tried their best to make the choices as bland as possible. Well, I chose the female fighter class. Well then so far the graphics remind me on the Jedi knights games...remind me to play those after I'm done with this.
Everything's controlable with the mouse?..gotta get used to it just as I have to get used to the battles.

You walk and can have keyboard controls. The mouse is easier to select attacks and such. If you find the battles too hard, set it in an easier setting, the game itself is all about the choices and story.

Anyway, played the first two missions of Goldeneye 007. So far? Absolutely brilliant. An awesome setup that makes you feel like a professional, it's cinematic enough to feel absolutely awesome, but gives you total control otherwise. I'll have to check sometime if the original game was this cinematic. The enemies seem smart enough, although I do have to complain about the hitboxes, they're too forgiving at times, and too strict at other times. But the level design is amazing, nothing feels linear to the point of feeling like a videogame level. If this is the first well-made console FPS, I'll have to say, well done, Rare.

Is it too late for me to join the experiment?

Games I enjoy:

-Platformers [Such as Mario, Kirby, Mega Man. Ghost & Goblings (just played the SNES and Genesis games), Klonoa (didn't like the GBA games much though) and Sonic (?) (I'll admit I am not that fond of the first game, I've tried to like it, many times. But I just can't seem to like the game). Other Platformers I had or played were I-Ninja, and some early Spyro games]

-JRPGs [I'll admit I have a love/hate relationship with JRPGs, the ones I really like are the Breath of Fire series, Dragon Quest (just played VIII, IX, IV DS in that order, one or two Final Fantasy games...though I'll admit I haven't really finished any of them. Always stopped playing them in the end dungeon. Can't forget about Chrono Trigger. Also the Mario RPGs and I recently got back to playing Pokemon.]

-Action JRPGs [Tales of Symphonia, only 'Tales of' game I've ever played though. Kingdom Hearts (though I got bored of the serious after Re Chain of Memories) Vanilla ware's games, aka. Odin Sphere and Muramasa, love to get my hands on Princess...something-or-other.]

-Action [Devil May Cry 1 and 3, God of War 1 (Though I did find some of the fights a bit repetitive, good game though), Gunstar Heroes (both the original and the admittedly inferior GBA remake/sequel, Viewtiful Joe games, Ratchet and Clank (Only played the first game though, and it was lent to me by a friend), Ape Escape (just played 1 and 3), Mad World and No More Heroes]

-Action Adventure [TLoZ franchise, Beyond Good and Evil, Okami]

-Music based games [DDR, Gitaroo Man]

-Fighting [Street Fighter series, Samurai Showdown, Super Smash Bros., vs Capcom games, Soul Caliber]

-SRPGs [Fire Emblem, Disgaea and the like]

-Games whose Genre I can't quite assign [Pikmin, Drill Dozer, Punch Out games, Dragon Quest Swords, Custom Robo games, One Piece Mansion (not related in any way to the manga/anime about the wacky pirate gang whom I adore).]

Games I'm not that intrested in/weary of playing:

-Simulators [Much like the ones Flash mentioned. Sims was fun for a while but it got boring for me.]

-Sports game [Shocker, ain't it. Though I have to say, the times I did get my hands on one of these types of games, whether it was through the PS demo CD or playing multiplayer at a friends house, I was kinda enjoy it. But I was never really that interested enough to go out and buy one for myself.]

-RTS [more weary than not interested]

-FPS [same reason as sports. Or course I felt a bit bored when I played Halo 2 in one of my relatives homes. Not so much the case with CoD 4, though I was only able to play the tutorial, a bit of the first level. Most of the time was spent playing in split screen mutliplayer. Only FPS game I had bought would be Red Steel 2, which I rather enjoyed actually.]

Consoles I Have:

-Wii
-PS2
-DS
-PC [Can only play roms, and some downloadable games. Haven't really tried playing a retail PC game, though I doubt my comp will be able to play a current gen game. And I don't have the money to upgrade...heck I barely even have enough money for new games.]

Never too late to join the experiment. I actually typed up a huge reply here explaining every great game in detail, but accidentally closed the window. So now I'm just gonna list them.

- Halo CE (great game, runs on old PCs and it has an amazing campaign)
- Burnout 3 (probably the popular choice, but it's a cheap PS2 game and it provides you with hours of fun. Think of it as Mario Kart, but ten times faster and more destructive)
- NBA Jam (game focused on fun, fun fun! Arcadey with tons of cheap memes which people here would repeat endlessly if they played it =P)

One small suggestion for everyone in the topic. The Tony Hawk's pro Skater series (from 1 to 4) has amazing gameplay which consists of racking up combos with amazing neverending tricks, pretty much exactly to the point that many fighting games and japanese action games turn out to be. I widely recomend it. It can be absolutely amazing. You can create your own character with a ton of options, even build your own levels and you have tons of levelling up options as well as fantastic gameplay.

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bh1FiDQPD7o[/youtube]

It's like a platformer where you combo into things. It's brutally awesome.

Hmmm. Should give those 2 (Halo CE and NBA Jam) a try. I'm not going to count Burnout 3 'cause if it's anything like the other burnouts...I'm just going to love it. On of the few real life/realictic (and I use that term lightly) racing games I like. Crashing and causing mayhem is fun.

So, Halo CE, what are the minimum requirements to play it? And do you have more suggestions for games of my least favorite genres to check out?

I think for me, a top 10 list would be easier(#1 is favorite genre):

#1 RPGs
#2 Platformers
#3 Fighting (also includes Beat em'up)
#4 Shooters (Light Gun is favorite sub-genre, though I haven't really explored many shmups)
#5 Survival-Horror
#6 Puzzle
#7 Strategy
#8 Racing (or any vehicle simulation)
#9 Music
#10 Sports

I don't recall playing any light novel games before.

Burnout is the least realistic racing game there is. =P And yes, counting F-Zero and Wipeout. XD

Anyway, as long as your PC isn't more than 8 to 10 years old, you should be able to play it.

Quote
# Operating System: Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows Second Edition, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), Microsoft Windows 2000, or Microsoft Windows XP.
# Computer/Processor: 733 megahertz (MHz) processor.
# DirectX: DirectX® 9.0 or later. (DirectX 9.0b is installed by Halo.)
# Memory: 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM.
# Hard Disk: 1.2 gigabytes (GB) of free hard disk space.
# Video card: 32 MB with 3D Transform and Lighting capable.
# CD: 8X.
# Sound: Sound card, speakers, or headphones with multiplayer play.

It's seriously peanuts. Anyway, let's see...

For simulators, the Ace Combat games are fun. Hard to get into, but fun. Ace Combat Zero was the best, in my opinion, although it's certainly not an entry-level game. Gran Turismo 4 is a very cool, very fun racing game with tons of detail, but it's more for the sheer amount of cars you can unlock and the different ways they handle. The Microsoft Flight Simulator series is also pretty damn awesome.

For FPS games, there are a TON of them. Timesplitters is the best PS2 series. And one of the greatest FPS games of all time, with really smooth controls and graphics that still look great today. Black is also a great example, although it's more for prettiness than gameplay. Most FPSes in that generation were on the XBox, so there's not alot to pick. I'm having one hell of an experience with Wii's Goldeneye, so I'd recomend that one as well.

For sports games, there are quite a few amazing ones that are loved by even the most hardcore of games. Virtua Tennis, for example, is an arcade sensation and a fantastic game. The Tiger Woods games are also pretty good, if you're into golf.

I see Music as one of the least-liked genres there. Meaning, I'm gonna suggest Gitaroo Man, Vib Ribbon or Audiosurf.

First, tell us your non-tastes and games you haven't given a chance to yet.
There's my problem. I don't exactly have a "non-taste". If I did, it'd probably be easily summed up as "World of Warcraft".

There's my problem. I don't exactly have a "non-taste". If I did, it'd probably be easily summed up as "World of Warcraft".

Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey.

Cheap as hell, too. I'd honestly get the Oddboxx if I were you. Because Stranger's Wrath is still one of the greatest games I've ever played in my whole life. And the greatest of all Oddworlds.

Strangers Wrath is the one that definitely appeals the most to me, honestly. But I figure if I'm gonna do that, I may as well play them in some sort of order, right?

Stranger's Wrath is a completely different story within the Oddworld. Different gameplay, too. Just play that one, trust me.

I hate FPS games. I hate not being bale to see my character walking about, falling off that cliff I didn't see behind me, etc. I don't really take too well to extreme realism either.

Despite this I lept out of my element and purchased a generic American war shooter; Bad Company 2

Despite my reservations, the gameplay was pretty tight. It took a little getting use to, but once I did, I was really in the zone. I felt like a soldier in a war. Creeping around corners, sneaking up on people, having fire fights, all while trying not to get shot up.

A game I thought I would completely hate, or be frustrated/bored with, I ended up liking a great deal. Go figure.

Sorry, no real in depth review, photos, or whatever but there ya go.

Hey, I used to hate FPS games too. The controls, the way the camera was positioned, the way the guns worked...

Then one day I got one, and loved it. Now you just need to get some more. Heck, Bad Company 2 isn't even a really great game as FPSes come.

You're just getting the same kind of experience I mean for people to get in here, and open their horizons to games they hate without having even played.

I just snuck onto steam and grabbed a copy of the Oddworld pack that was on sale 8D Hmm.

My DS is busy catering to my needs atm so I'll start on Super Robot Wars later. Looks like Endless Frontier: Super Robot Wars OG Saga is the only translated one. No gundams or zoids </3

Also as a music game fan I'd recommend games such as Taiko no Tatsujin (Jp, but seriously, do you need to understand what they're saying in order to hit notes?)  and Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! or the Elite Beat Agents series. Taiko is good because instead of trying to hit between 5 different kinds of notes you only have two. And it still sounds good (Probably better since you can play better) and it somehow still poses a challenge.
Ouendan/EBA is good because I own at it it isn't all about pressing buttons, and such. Harder to get into but lots of fun once you learn how it works.
I'm not too big a fan of games like Audiosurf as it doesn't really follow the music that well. Nor does it really require you to listen. If course, if you hate music games because you hate music then...

It's all a question of music taste. I can just play hacked versions of music games because I can never stand any of the songs.
