A long time ago, I asked "What's this Gurren Lagann thing ya'll talking about?" and the topic I asked in exploded to 5 pages further. No one gave me a straight answer, just a bunch of really stupid lines from the overhyped anime of the century. Then when I called them on their BS (given if you want to interest someone, make it titillating, not retarded.) they went apeshit and tried, very poorly I might add, to run me out.

It's one thing to like GL. To even stand by it as a favorite anime. But to get cultist over it... that is when you become a Gurrenfag. And frankly, most fans I've seen are just that.

GL is essentially the FFVII of the Anime world. Good for what it is, if you take it as just that. However the fanbase has ruined it by making it overhyped.

See, I've always disagreed with the sentiment that a fanbase can ruin a certain product, whether it be a game, movie, or other form of entertainment. If you enjoy something or don't, and have a certain opinion on it, that's all the really matters. I agree, TTGL is an overrated anime, so is Haruhi as well. But I still think both are actually quality animes. LoL, hell I also think that FLCL is absolute [parasitic bomb], but it has such a huge fanbase that loves it. Essentially, to each their own, I always say.

Indeed. I stand by the fact that it was pretty good once you hit the second season, but when you get into it, you have to deal with the fanboys.

I'd like to reiterate. They killed it for me. I can watch the series, but talking about it is pretty much a no-no. It incites the dregs to come out of no where and drive me up a wall.

So in a sense, you are correct. A fanbase cannot ruin something (unless they drive the creator to quit/off him/herself) and so thusly, that is a bit of a personal nitpick. But that is why I've all but left pretty much every fanbase gathering, save Megaman, for now. As sad as it is, fans in large groups make things... worse? For me anyway. But like you said, to each their own.

FLCL was always WTFsauce to me back when I saw it [AS] although I enjoyed it.

I can sorta relate on how a fanbase could ruin something, I mean talk to PB, Vixy, and Nekomata about what happened with Rosenkreuzstilette here back in 2009.
At DoujinStyle, TheObserver brought up how a promising game called Vampirish Night got canceled all because some retarded people in the US insulted the developers to the point where they canceled production of the game. That's just plain jacked up. If I was one of them, I'd tell these people to f*ck off.

How about dem NGEfags? I didn't like this anime, and when I posted on a certain forum (which is now dead) that I don't like it, the characters are horrible and et cetera... they bashed me all to hell. When I tried to [tornado fang]ing show them Big O sometime later... THEY [tornado fang]ing BASHED ME AS WELL BECAUSE OF THE [tornado fang]ing OPENING (not all of the users did those things, but there was a certain amount). Or whenever I mentioned that Yu-Gi-Oh! is not THAT bad... they [tornado fang]ing bashed me also. I wasn't even a prick about it... I just mentioned I don't like it(NGE). It was because of them, that I came to hate NGE (and FLCL too. God, the music in this just wasn't my thing, so was the "humor" and "deepness").

Personally, I consider myself a fan of NGE, but I don't go out of the way to call it the best anime ever (No Anime holds that right at the moment, not even Code Geass which I do enjoy so much.), And I consider myself a fan of TTGL and FLCL as well. I just tend to stray from the side that gets overly obsessed and overhypes the hell out of everything.

Dude, I watched it as a teen (younger, while 4shiz was still intergrated with Fox). I finished the anime up until the following season where they tossed everything out the window (I still remember the Sam vs Sonic rematch ep). Do you know how many amvs there are on youtube right now only consisting of the Star Trek Saga?
