I've been going to Otakon since '99, actually. Yeah.
Any way, it's usually a good con experience, and the question usually is less in the way of "is it any good", so much that it becomes "how good is it".
Two years ago, we were graced with Steve Blum and Tomokazu Seki coming around, who both held individual panels and autograph sessions. I got Blum to autograph the back of my Advent Children Vincent figure (still in box). He's really a nice guy, and I think he may have been the first one who may have leaked the information about "Wolverine and the Xmen". Which was nice.
I was unfortunately unable to get close to Seki at all...too bad, too, I wanted him to sign my "Viewtiful Joe: Battle Carnival"!
Last year, Kappei Yamaguchi (Ranma, Inuyasha, Yattaro from Kyatto Ninden) and Derek Stephen Prince were the main VAs I got to see. Also were great guys.
Before I had REAL money, and knew about Play-Asia, Otakon and its local vendors who came to town, were my most prevalent sources of getting some nice swag. Recent years, that's not so much the case, but believe it or not...my first year there, I snatched up one of those Rockman 8 figures of Blues, that you have to put together. It was so funny, having that figure right next to my "Super Fighting Robot!" Protoman.
