Tons of companies do this for alot of games. Using the same engine/assets.

...Capcom is just blatantly obvious about it.

Cause they know it's going to make them money.

KudosForce

Also, it helps most players remain in their comfort zone. If things get too drastically different, they'll get hesitant and be turned off.

Let's not forget that Capcom aren't the only ones who've recycled a game engine structure, recently. *cough*Nintendo'sSuperMarioGalaxy2*cough*

Nintendo's spent years making completely original Mario games in look, aspect and gameplay. If their very best Mario game of all time (widely regarded as, for you picky ones) requires an expansion, I say let them. As long as we're not still getting Mario Galaxies for years, I'm okay with it. But for one, although I love playing certain games and wish there could be more of them, I certainly hate playing expansions of the same game for years and years.

Also, time for more speculatan:

As Steve is finally given some gameplay importance in the next game, anyone thinks he'll play a little differently, or he'll be the same as regular Megaman gameplay, with just a skin? An ideal thing would be to have Steve-based levels, complete with ugly boxart enemies and bosses. At least a single level, just for fun.

...man, now I want a Steve game.

KudosForce

Hmm, fair enough. Though, it can be difficult to find ways to innovate things, or mix them up a bit.

That said, it's not confirmed if Mega Grandpa's actually in yet, but we'll see. ;)

Acid

Capcom tried to be innovative with Breath of Fire.

It killed the series.

Yeah, I miss this series. Great RPG. Unique characters.

I have to agree with you, sometimes being too innovative might backfire. I can dare say that I actually have fun with those old-school games. But I gotta admit that things must change... be it better or worse.

"Don't change what ain't broken" is a true Mega Man fan's creed. If you don't like the same old stuff in every game, why the hell are you here?

What happens in Vegas stays on Youtube. I also stream on Twitch from time to time.

Innovation also requires quality to succeed.

Well, it seems I do not fit your definition of a true Mega Man fan.

Innovation also requires execution. It can be innovative, but even if it's good quality, it needs good execution as well.

And I don't either, by those standards.

There's alot of factors, but quality includes execution, design, etc.

Mirby

True, true.

This only means we're in agreement here, ya know.

Yep, I know. Don't get me wrong, I love the original series and still play it. But after two new retro games, I think it needs something fresh.

Sure. Classic Castlevania jumping isn't broken, because it gets its job done - don't fix it. Oh, wait...

While I don't mind repetition as long the gameplay stays fun, the fact is that innovation and ambitious game designing is hardly seen in today's commercial games. Hopefully Capcom breaks that tradition for once in years with Universe. For me Sin & Punishment 2 is definetely the freshest game expierence in years. It would be so satisfying if I get that feeling with a Mega Man game for once, too.

I'll be on the side of innovation and change when I can play all the megamna games on my DS :p
Though most of my opnions will be null and void seeing as I only can watch walkthroughs/let's play of games becuase I don't have the money for the console there on/the game itself.

8D I can't wait to see Let's Plays of MMUni! I wonder if it'll have a stage creator feature like MMPU

ST Jestah

A thought just ocurred to me. If MMUni truly is gonna be a build-your-own Mega Man game game.

Would it be possible to make your own Robot Masters even if the game comes with a new set of them? And what about fortress bosses, would we be able to make those too?
If it does, I know a certain few people who would be happy with this...well a lot really.

Also, options to give your mega man diffrent actions. Such as giving him the ability to dash, slide and chargeshot.

SOME people would consider going back to 8 bit "fresh"

And SOME people are still spouting utter bullshit.

Speaking of fresh, it was nice of them to introduce sports (Strike Man), as a new RM theme.

It'd be nice to see some other new ones. Of course, I expect some of the old ones to get re-used again. There can only be so many themes, after all...

We don't want fresh stuff, we want fun games. If they can obtain fun with a fresh idea that's another story.
I wouln't mind seeing a new classic game released periodically actually, considering they are cheap to produce and yet fun to play.
