I had this Idea of a buster ability...
a weapon or something.
theres an energy bar for it you begin to charge up the weapon, and X's buster kind of forms a whirlpool suction that draws water into it, and pulls in enemies near X closer to him, and when you charge, the bar fills up. when its at max, you let go, and X shoots  this big water shot that destroys most normal enemies, (axcluding hidden mets of course,) but can only be used under water...

I made a little doodle to show what I meant.

I hate the crystal cave tune.
Other than that, I'm just worried about the songs being too similar.

I like those, but maybe the buster will be too slow passed but I like the idea. When I get on doing it I'll experiment some ideas.

I like the crystal cave one, can't make everyone happy.
I don't know what you see on the songs that they are familiar, maybe because I'm not the music kind of guy. I know the music can be better it will always be better stuff, but I like what he has done. And is not that I can [sonic slicer] around telling him to do this and that, is not that I have several musicians helping me.

Some sound better than others, no doubt.  The Sewer-ish background one is probably my least favorite.

As for the buster... Instead of my Whirlpool Buster you could create a Vortex Buster, sucks enemies in, so far so nice, but heavy pressure compresses them into Energy and Ammo cells. (Energy cells preferred otherwise it will go forever).

I don’t know what you see on the songs that they are familiar, maybe because I’m not the music kind of guy.

Well, this would be better put to Nitro himself, but... The songs all have the same guitar as the main instrument, in the X games it varies a lot between stage BGMs which instrument is at the front, giving them all a distinct sound.
That and the pacing.
Compare the BMGs of Blizzard Buffalo and Neon Tiger for an example of what I mean.

how about when youre underwater, the whirlpool/vortex buster ability thingamajigit fills up a gauge and then when you leave the water you can shoot as many water charged shots as you have energy in the gauge?

I was thinking along the lines of a sort of stock/Hyper charge, With the gauge and [parasitic bomb],  but which you can refill by sucking in water while underwater.

That still screams Fluud of Super Mario Sunshine, though. but then again, there will be references possibly.

By the way, will we be able to replace the music with our own, so I can play Doppler stage 1 throughout the entire game?

Um, you can do it even without an option like that. Turn off the game's music. ^^

There's also Flash Decompilers that let you convert the game to FLA and put your own music into the game without the author's permission, and we don't want that, do we?

What Vixy said. Just turn off the game music, I made separate sound options for music and sfx.
