Does Bass seem "Emo" to you?

Bass was introduced as a rival and foil to Mega Man.  Basically, his evil counterpart.

However, we already had two or three versions of this.  The Mega Man copy, Proto Man, and Quint all followed the same plot in their initial appearances.

The main difference with Bass was that he was actually his own character.  Now a lot of people label him an "emo" angst-bucket in the style of Shadow the Hedgehog...never mind that Bass predates the latter by about a decade.  And then there's the fact that Bass expresses no emotions besides pride and anger...

Thoughts on this?

Shadow also isn't emo... once upon a time he kind of was, tough. Now however, he's far from it.

Forte is never like: "MEGAMAN! CRAWLING IN MY SKIIIN!"

I see Bass more as egoistic raging type. He just wants to show everybody that HE is the strongest robot ever created and doesn't care who he has to destroy to do so or what impact it could have on anything.

If anything, he's a whiny brat. Always wanting to beat Mega Man, always wanting to become the strongest robot, that's all he ever thinks about. Granted that's exactly what he was programmed to be like, he never really thinks about how to come about it, and just keeps trying to beat'em up. Never going up to Wily and saying "Hey, gimme powers to beat Mega man" or no thinking of plans to bring about Mega Man's downfall and make him weaker, he just wants to beat him with his own two hands. Granted that's pretty admirable of him to only rely on himself, the problem lies in that: he relies ONLY on himself and sometimes Treble. Mega Man has Rush, Dr. Light, Roll, and Beat and reasons to protect them, something Bass doesn't have or understand, so it ends up being a "I fight for my friends thus giving me power" shtick.

tl;dr, Bass' character flaw of being solo makes him a loser and whiny brat.

No. The only reason I think he expresses pride and anger is because he is programmed to do so, but pride and anger aren't his own emotions. He can't stand losing to megaman, but joins forces with him later. This is more of the rival-type, although he can be a sore loser. He shows logic.

Again with the Sonic and Megaman are similar [parasitic bomb]? To me, I see Bass as an anti-hero, always wanting to best the hero before the villan does (or in a sense, hired to take out the hero), it's a classic, and it should be left that way. Since when being an anti-hero requires going emo? Bass is pretty much a loudmouth and a showoff, two traits that are usually a classic amongst some villans.

And as for shadow, Eggman was with him for the duriation of SA2 (Set as a distraction, while framing Sonic in the process), until he redeems himself in the end, until Sega pulled a Capcom and somehow brought him back.

Forte = Emo? Oh hell no! To restate what has been stated in at least half of the posts on this topic so far, he's just prideful and angry. There is no sadness, angst, or attempted self-destruction. He relies only on himself and, periodically, Gospel. Also, unlike Rockman, who likes Dr. Light, Forte pretty much hates Wily and, more often than not, pursues his own goals rather than  going along with his creator's, despite them kinda going hand-in-hand. Also, Wily never built Forte a support team.

To me, Bass just seems hell-bent on defeating Mega Man and proving himself stronger than all other bots.

The original Japanese seemed to intend to make him more arrogant, but int he US translation he comes off as more angry.  Personally I like his anger, it makes him more than just an evil Megaman after all.  Not to mention how he just can't stand that he's destined to be a hero (at least if you ask Duo), which is also an appealing part of his character.

X in Megaman X7.  THAT is an emo robot.  Bass does not even approach that.  Rage filled angst, yes, but emo, not at all.
