^ I've never read the manga myself, but from what I've read about it, yes.

As for the topic subject, whoever it was that labeled Bass as an emo truly doesn't know the true definition of that. For him to be an emo, he would have to be one of those people who are constantly whining about how their life sucks, and are overcome with suicidal thoughts, or something along the lines of that. I've never seen Bass (or even Shadow the Hedgehog for that matter) do anything even REMOTELY close to this. Bass comes off as more of an arrogant prick, rather than a crybaby emo.

I just hate dark rival characters as a whole, period.

Bass isn't really one. As stated, he's just an arrogant [Bumpity-Boom!]. If anything, he's more a pushy rival who wants to beat up the main character to prove he's better, but still has good intentions... in an odd way.

He'd fall more under the "anti-hero" archetype, akin to Vegeta, in that he'll still do good, but still runs his own agenda, usually ego driven, so the reasoning isn't as pure or proper as a normal hero.

Bass isn't emo. When I think Bass, I think stern and goal oriented...not morose and contemplating about why he's inferior because he think's he's exactly the opposite of inferior.

No. I'm pretty sure he predates the whole emo scene anyways.
