Just a simple topic really. What are some of your favorite self contained parts of games that make you giddy in the nerd part of yourself to play/replay?

I have a few, but since I'm typing this offa my Wii right now, I want to keep it simple.

The Center of The Universe & Melty Molten Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy are distilled essence of amazing for me.

I need to think harder, right now the only thing that comes to my mind is Bowser in the Sky or however the last level was named in Mario 64.

My life is currently bears and Jojos and everything is great.

You're right, Bowser In The Sky was the name of that level.

StarFox 64 - Katina. Oh man, seeing the stuff that went on during that level blew my 8 year old mind. XD

And the musical flourish that started the level... It was like in the back of my head, a "permission to kickass" vibe started up. XD

Not so much Borockman. XD

Also, Maridia in Super Metroid. There's something really well done withe design of the level and the accompanying music that makes it all so much fun.

Then there's the main dungeon for Chapter 5 & 6 in StarTropics. Dear God, it was like life or death platforming at every second. I'll also never forget this one time I jumped into a trap room, fell on a sinking block and drowned instantly. XD

Mega Man 4, Dr. Cossack stage 3.
I don't know why, I just love it, and get excited when it's coming around when I'm playing through the game.
The boss is pathetically easy though.

Hmm, what else?

Sonic & Knuckles: The frozen lava area and Sky sanctuary.

Megaman 8: Frostman stage.... I kid, it's Clownman and Astroman stages, funkeh!

if i had to pick absolutely one stage from S3K, it would have to be Doomsday. that music gets me pumped. and come on, Doomsday just sells itself.

another kickass stage is Stage 9 in Castlevania IV. we call it the Treasure Room. best underappreciated song in the game, and it's got a screensaver of sorts. pause the game and the ghosts continue to fly by.

a really hard pick is from Mega Man. for now, i'll name Wily Stage 2 of MM9. mostly cause of the music: We're The Robots is my favorite track in MM9.

What happens in Vegas stays on Youtube. I also stream on Twitch from time to time.

Oh! Hydrocity Zone in Sonic 3, although in my honest opinion, all of Sonic 3 & Knuckles is awesome. Then, Pipe World level 4 in SMB3. XD

Oh [tornado fang]ing [tornado fang]. XD

Do you know how long it took me as a kid to figure out that you weren't supposed to smack the tank outta existence but rather jump on the switch after knocking it back a fair bit in the second dungeon? XD

Man, they don't make games like that anymore.

Favorite levels? Hm, let's see...

- Levels 1, 5 and 7 in the original Contra
- The unforgettable 7-4, the maze dungeon, in the original Mario Bros. :D
- Mission 2 (the Desert mission) in Top Gun: The Second Mission -- dodging those trees IS a test of endurance
- The opening MMX level -- come on, do I really need to say why?
- An unorthodox entry: the Bonus Stages in Super Street Fighter II, especially the brick wall one :D

Those are all I can think of for the time being. :P

Mars Base - TMNT Turtles in Time.
- The opening MMX level -- come on, do I really need to say why?
God, [tornado fang]ing hell yes!!!

Armored Armadillo - MMX (great theme and stage all around)
Spark Mandrill - MMX
Stage 2 Wily - MM9
Stage 1 - Sunset Riders (always gets me ready though i'm not super good at the game though)
Stage 1 - Ikaruga
Stage 4 - Ikaruga (though starting from stage 3 it gets damn hard, but I love the build up of the theme for Stage 4, makes dying so tolerable)
Center of the Universe - Super Mario Galaxy (I 100% agree w/ you Jeri :) , in fact I love ALL 3 of Bowser's stages<3)
Stage 1 - Super Castlevania IV (The theme plays such a big part in that stage, as well as facing Dracula)
Second Half of Stage B - Super Castlevania IV (EXCELLENT theme, even if one can get pissed off at Slogra at times XDDD)
Final Stage - Super Castlevania IV (Very, very aura-like)
Stage 9 - SCIV (same reason as Satoryu)
2/3rds of Stage 2 - SCIV (The atmosphere of the theme itself fits too perfectly at this stage segment)

hm...that's all I can think of right now.

After much thought, I realized that this is going to be impossible. ???

So I'm just gonna casually lean towards the 100-Coin Star of Lethal Lava Land in Super Mario 64 and Quick Man in MM2.

In no particular order...

Chrome Gadget and Azure Lake versus stages as I held the record for fastest time in the household for years.
Can't remember the name of the stage, but it was that super-speed Zone in Knuckles Chaotix.  [tornado fang]ing LOVED it.
The Gauntlet from Hyperstone Heist.
The surfing level from Turtles in Time.
The pit and the tower levels from Battletoads.
The Kamino level in Battlefront.
Katina in StarFox 64.
The Felicity (sic) in Perfect Dark 64.

The Falicity (sic) in Perfect Dark 64.

I thought it was Felicity.

Maybe I'm thinking of something else.

Oh yeah and um a level. Um. Factory in SCCT's pretty good, I guess. Just sucks that most of the clowns that play that game refuse to learn it. Too big or something.

You're right, it was the Felicity.  It's been years since I played Perfect Dark, so I didn't quite remember.
