It has been stated that Quint is what is to become of Mega Man in 30-something years (after being kidnapped and remodled by Wily). Now, Mega Man faces himself in Mega Man II for the Game Boy, and wins (if you can consider killing yourself winning). Now, I may not be an expert on the subject, but if you kill yourself from the future, won't that create some problems? How is Rock still alive after that anyways?

Well, if you killed your future self I'm sure it wouldn't change history. However, if you kill your past self, now THAT'S a problem.

My life is currently bears and Jojos and everything is great.

This is why Quint hates time anomalies.

All he's done is prevent anything his future self would have done. He will live to that point, and then be killed by another version of his past self, and then that one will live to that point, etc.

That's assuming Quint's presence and Rock realizing he would become Quint one day doesn't convince him into using his electronic brain and thinking "I should do something to prevent that from happening."

This.
You see Quint teleport away after you "defeat" him, to parts unknown.

And as stated in the World 2 manga, Rockman believes in his justice and courage, and vows to never become like Quint (Though Quint was clearly destroyed in the manga...).

Wasn't there an argument that the Quint in World 5 could be just a copy robot, and not the Quint from World 2?

No matter what that Quint was, a Quint still got destroyed. We don't know what it is until someone gets out the books and figures it out.

Well, there were a lots of Gutsmans in Rockman1 Wily Stage 4, yet we fought one no different from the other rematches. Of course, we don't know if those other rematches are the originals. Wily may have copies, but we can't tell whether or not he used them. Same case for the World5 Rockman Killers and Quint.

I think it's safe to say that those are just extras. When Wily was experimenting with the future Mega Man, he made test robots, one of which turned out to be R-Shadow. As he tells it, the spares just get thrown aside.

R-Shadow is actually quite different from them. More like a prototype of Quint made in the future, discarded because he obtained the real Rockman. Also, those copies only appeared in World5, not World2.

Challenger from the Future is officially canon.

Quint in World 2 was also the real one and the first appearance.

All of the Quints in World 5 are copies (mass-produced, one of them was functional).

Live with it.

Challenger from the Future is officially canon.

As canon as MegaMission with its obvious Zero - Light Capsule disagreement. So.. officially pseudo-canon, after all, it's just licensed and has that obvious 200X error. Both it and MegaMission get a spot in R20, one gets a mention in Advent, the other has actual Capcom involvement.

Right, so why was Quint trying to destroy his past self anyway?

Or was he just trying to knock out RockMan in order to transform him into Quint sooner?  You know, so he would have gotten more accomplished in his new identity.

Because Wily reprogrammed him, Wily is Wily wants Rock defeated.

Vixy's post has already been addressed. Challenger from the Future isn't entirely canon, and we don't know the nature of Quint in W5 until one of the books says it outright. After all, with him surviving that first encounter and appearing far too little (Rockboard only). Why would it not be the original? There's otherwise no closure to his story. Especially when Rockman Shadow always proclaimed he isn't Quint.

Maybe Wily's ultimate goal isn't to destroy Rock, but rather to destroy his faith in others and in peace. Think about it. Every encounter gives him new powers, makes him more powerful. Every time he faces Wily, he gets a bit less patient with him (heck, he even THREATENS Wily at the end of MM7 - think about THAT, too!). And Wily's ambition, all along, is to use these powerful Robot Masters - Rock being one of them - to conquer the world with their superior power.

Perhaps destroying MegaMan was the goal in his more ignorant days, but it's a far easier thing - and better outcome for Wily - if he simply succeeds in manipulating him, instead. For example, notice the HUGE paradigm shift in Wily between MM8 and MM9. When a creature of such enormous power as Rock ever DOES lose their faith in lasting peace, what do you think *would* become of them? And of course, "frienemies" like Bass/Forte really help that a lot.

(Speaking of Time Paradoxes - does it even really make sense to "chronologicalize" them in the first place?)

Albert W. Wily's ultimate goal is to prove himself superior to his rival Thomas Right. Everything else is secondary, tertiary and even less than that.
