This looks like more limited Ultimate Tenkaichi except with 4vs4 and no QTE crap. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.
I quite liked Ultimate Tenkaichi, but I do wish for improvements on it.
So people are swaying back and forth if UT is better or not compared to BoZ.

Alright I got to try out DBZ: Battle of Z at the NYCC and I have to say I was impressed!
It's more fun than I thought and much more fast-pace compare to UT and Raging Blast, actually it's one of the fastest DBZ games I have ever played.
And about the 4v4 battles... I can confirm that is not the case for Story Mode as there's two missions. 4v1 on Vegeta from the Saiyan Saga and turns into a Great Ape (with each of his body parts (arms, legs, head, and body) serving as targets with the main body Great Ape Vegeta's health bar) and the Android Battle where you fight #16 and #17 first and after you beat then #18 shows up and soon after depleting her health Cell shows up and absorbs her (in a similar fashion from the anime and manga) and becomes his Perfect Form and you fight him 4v1.
I'm not sure if you can turn off Allies but at least Story Mode you're not fighting other characters that weren't present in battle like Frieza and Cell. Not sure about Versus Mode as only Single Player mode was available.
The controls were this:
Square = Ascend*
X = Descend*
Triangle = Melee Attack
Circle = Ki Blast
L1 = Block
R1 = Enemy Lock-On/Off
L2 = Unique A (Special Action 1; ex. Goku does a Kaioken Burst Dash Attack and basically instantly warps to his enemy's side and smash them)
R2 = Unique B (Special Action 2; ex. Goku does that Kiai (Shockwave) like he did on Burter and Jeice to push them back)
Left Analog = Character Movement (L3 = Nothing)
Right Analog = Camera Movement (R3 = Ally Lock-On/Off)
L1 + Square = Link Smash
L1 + Triangle = Link Burst (smash your opponent in the air back and forth with team mates)
L1 + Circle = (Can't remember)
L1 + X = (Can't remember)
Triangle + Circle = Special Attack (ex. Goku's Kamehame Wave)
*Double Tap to Ascend/Descend and holding down those button without double tapping results in a Dash (no Homing Dash it seems).
I only got to play it for a bit as other people were interest in playing it. Only Goku, SSJ Goku, SSJ Vegeta, Piccolo, Krillin, Kid Gohan, SSJ Trunks (Sword), Tien, Yamacha, Chiaotzu were in the Demo (I think there might be a few more, like two or three more but I don't recall) were available to play as and in order to play as the character you want you need to put them in the Character Slot 1 spot so even if you highlight the character you were on (like on Slot 2) and enter the battle you will play whoever was on the Slot 1 spot instead.
My only compliant so far is the camera or lock-on as I lock-on to the target and my character will sometimes miss them because I move too fast or for Great Ape I try to target Great Ape Vegeta's arms and legs with the R1 (hold it and using the Right Analog to switch target) I can't use my Unique A action with Goku to hit the spot I want or goes back to his main body as the target lock-on seems to reset itself if you re-target the enemy like with Goku's Unique A as he just Dash Attacks Great Ape Vegeta's main body.
I hope they iron this out before the final release, despite some changes to the game (no in-game transformation), it's a pretty solid game and quite fun! I can't wait to play the full release but I'll await my final judgement until it comes out.
