Well, since I just got the summons, I had to fill out a questionnaire and mail that back, which I did.  I also have to report in during the on-call period to see when I'll be summoned to court, if I'm selected.  That won't be until late January when I have to call in every day.

In terms of actual jury duty, you go to court and sit on your butt and listen.  I'll ask if I can take notes.  It helps me to listen better.  If the jury is sequestered, then they can't leave until a verdict is reached, and that usually only happens in difficult trials.  When sequestered, the juror can't contact anyone outside of the trial.

You get paid $40 a day, transportation and even lodging (if applicable) is covered.

I don't get the big deal of keeping it a secret. It makes sense to keep it a secret from strangers and probably from friends, but from family? Come on.

If I get picked one day, I'd tell him about it, if the case is interesting.

They don't want anyone swaying your opinion, and you can tell them like I think 40 days after the trial or something, you just can't tell them during the trail.

The trial itself is public record in Pennsylvania.  You can go to the courthouse and request to sit in on trials.  Court reporters will explain the details of a trial, as well.  However, during sequestration, you're not allowed to talk about the trial, not even with family members.

I got called for Jury Duty once. How it works here is that they randomly select around 40 people and then from there only around 12 are actually used for the trial and everyone else goes home.

Luckily, I suppose, I was not picked for the actual trial.

Yeah, that's pretty much the same here.  A bunch of people are randomly selected, and only twelve are actually chosen.  I'm hoping I'm one of the lucky few.
