My game clock is a day ahead, my 3DS clock is fine.  I really don't see the big deal about it.

Because when you start up your game, you can tell Isabelle you need something and there you can change the clock/demolish your house/change your town layout. Thus allowing for the in-game clock to differ from the 3DS's internal one.

Wonder if that's just something I like, though I don't like unnatural hair colors in real life so I don't know.

Unnatural hair colors simply work well for animated/drawn work; preferably cartoony. Using that in real life, however, not so much.
