I'm going to negotiate the price, but I'm not going any lower than $100.  I need to make a profit, but that won't allow me to at all.  To cover the costs of supplies, mileage to get supplies, and shipping, that already equals to close to $100.  If I add in what I charge for labor, which is about $10 an hour, ($40 for four hours of work), that rounds it out to roughly $130, which I then added a $20 profit margin, which is really, really small.

As a freelancer, my rates have increased.  I had already quoted my price prior to going into this, and even though it was agreed upon, it still became a problem.  The bottom line is this: if you want something done for nothing, go find an amateur on dA.  Otherwise, expect to pay professional price for professional work.

People seem to have trouble understanding that. Though I would gladly pay full price if I needed a commission and had the money. You accept Canadian dollars? :P

I take PayPal, much easier and the currency doesn't matter then.  So, yes, I accept Canadian currency.  Got banks that can convert it.

That should be your motto.

That should be your motto.

Try to translate it into Latin so it would sound cooler. 8)

Exspecta reddere professio pretium laboris professionalis.

Pyro

Okay, that should go on your letterhead. ;)

Sounds sexy.

Last exam of high school? I don't even remember mine seeing as its been two whole years since. Hard to believe honestly.

But yeah, I thought you were like 22 or something.

irgpie

i graduated last year. took a victory lap for the work placement course my province offers. it was one of the most worthwhile classes i've ever taken, possibly tied with Drama.

the 'class' itself takes up both afternoon periods. however, the board requires me to take at least one other course each semester so i only have one spare. even though i'm already graduated and it really shouldn't matter. so i just literally slept through every lesson.

It's been nearly fifteen years since high school. 8D

And I'm still ruminating over this commission.  I've asked around, as I thought I was overcharging and have been told that my price is not only fair, but dirt cheap, compared to other artists.  One even said that I was short-changing myself and should charge much more just to make a profit!

ViperAcidZX

God these bed bugs are giving me really bad rashes... :|

Quickman

Okay, we settled on $100.  I'd rather do $150, as I did pay for two-day shipping and really, I'm not making any profit whatsoever, but at least I'm not doing this for absolutely nothing.

Funny, I learned that phrase from an episode of Justice League (skip to 1:46)
