Ahahaha oh man. Tameem, you remind me very strongly of many young male fanfic writers.

...so no one wants to just remake DMC2 into something presentable? Whatshername's flipping-vertically-up-walls thing sounds like it could be fun...

Eh, the sin of Devil May Cry 2, and the anime, wasn't just that it had crappy gameplay. Was that it took Dante's story seriously and had him act like a typical badass with one or two jokes, rather than a KURAAAAZY guy who surfs on missiles and gets impaled in swords while making puns.

But at least he was Dante, he looked like Dante, he moved like Dante and he wasn't totally serious. He was still relaxed enough to crack a few jokes. This new Don'te doesn't seem able to do anything really. It's not the same game in ANY way at all.

I share Bueno's/Flash's sentiments about his game garbage. I would say more, but he already summed it up so nicley.

@Mirby: At least I dont make that mistake when it comes to Rockman/Mega Man news.

This is one game that's VERY important to get people not to buy. Please spread the word when it comes to portraying the game badly when you hear of it. This is where the wallets can win, if people are serious about their discontent.

What about the masses of people that will buy the game that are not part of the DMC fanbase? You know, the ones that buy all the AAA titles like they are candy? How do we convince them? This game needs really bad reviews and lots of negative press. I hope it tanks harder than Bionic Commando.

Let's simply hope that the game's waves of massive bad publicity plays a part in making sure it tanks.

Capcom wants to get five million. Without the DMC fanbase (or with it, even), it's a far-fetched dream.

And I don't really see too many people thinking positively of this game when compared to how many dislike it. So I wouldn't worry about it. DmC won't be a success, and Capcom in all of it's GRRRREEEAAAAAAAAT marketing skills will think it's THE ENTIRE SERIES that doesn't sell instead of, you know,  the bad game they outsourced from a so-so company, and cancel the series, causing fans to rage and complain and beg until Capcom announces DMC5 and cancels it midway through production! :D

Barely relevant, but I had a dream awhile back about a DMC reboot/alternate continuity. Dante's a cop (making use of that old DMC concept) who investigates a school because demons are crawling up the one staircase that no one uses, and finds a door at the end of it that teleports him to Hell (and gives him his familiar outfit and weapon).

Does that sound like a better reboot to anyone? (Apart from a later bit where he got poisoned via forced make-out and had to find an alternate exit before time expired, in an area of Hell more suited to Demonophobia)

It honestly doesn't.

Trying to bring ANY sort of non-cliché story to Devil May Cry is bad. The story has to be basic and the plot regular, so the rest can be absolutely crazy. Dante's supposed to be a crack mofo who has an amazing amount of style and makes jokes about EVERYTHING. Not only that, his constant beatings, stabbings and his demon origins are important.

The only consistent characterization of Dante is 3 to 4. Kamiya's Dante was more down to earth and less KUHRAAAZAY, but he still had a dark and cool style about him -- Except for "I wanna fill your dark soul with LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!". He also showed quite a bit more emotion.

It's weird, because Itsuno, Tanaka and Co gave us drab Dante. He still has a gem or two here and there (I personally love the "A false coin for a false god" line), but he barely talks in the game which completely kills his character. Oh and the game sucked, too. These same guys went "oh [parasitic bomb] what are we doing" and gave us the Dante we've all come to love.

The Anime seems to take Kamiya's Dante into the direction of 2's Dante. Less emotion, quiet, still cracks a few wise ones. Strawberry Sundae. It's hard to say where Dante would've went if Kamiya continued (You can't say Bayonetta because it's clear Bayonetta had it's influences from 3/4's Dante), and I think people forget that he wasn't always the rocket surfing, innuendo dropping demon slaying rockstar. Just a guy with mommy issues. And a bitchin' coat.

I'm not really sure if I have a point here, I just wanted to talk :P I'm in the middle of running through the entire series (I'm on 4 right now) and I've got DMC on the brain. We'll just round it out with "[tornado fang] Tameem and Ninja Theory". The best thing we can do is throw all our money at the DMC HD collection and hope that DmC sells like crap and that in the end Capcom goes "Huh, I guess we're stupid. Let's make old Dante again!"

The thing with Anime Dante was that nothing was really going on for him to really care about anything.

And I know people bitched about him never devil triggering.

But look at EVERY SINGLE GAME. Aside from his 1st time in 3, and like twice in 1 during the  Mundus battles, as far as canon goes Dante pretty much never transforms.

Even in 4, he never did as a boss even on DMD mode, and he was just messing around again the Saviour statue.

Though it's canon that normal Dante >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> DT'd Nero.

Anime Dante was also actually based on Kyosuke Nanbu of the SRW franchise. From the exact same attitude, to gambling habits, to mannerisms. They even purposly hired the same actor, Toshiyuki Morikawa as the official Japanese voice of Dante. Though Kyosuke never had a love of strawberry Sundae's....

Dante's model look's tweaked to be a little better. And i'll be the first to admit that the framerate looks MUCH better. But it's still NOT Devil May Cry. The only way I would play this is with my eye patch on.

I've never played any of the original Devil May Cry games, but they do interest me. Also there's a DMC HD Collection for the PS3 that has all 4 games on it, right? Maybe I should get that to try out the series?

Though I haven't played any of the Devil May Cry games, but hearing a lot about its gameplay and some of Dante's personality and looking at this reboot alternate universe of the game even I can tell this is a bad game.

Well gameplay, though I haven't seen it, from what I've heard sounds good as its own but using a big time name like DMC and counting it part of the franchise... not the most wisest of decisions.

If I want to make a game, but want to make it better I like to listen to fans or other gamers to get some ideas to improve... even more own original game to make it fun and enjoyable for everyone.

I will not be buying this DmC game, but I rather have the original DMC since that grabs me more than this. I having seen how Dante acts, but the way you describe his personality, however vague, I'm starting to like his character and like to see the original Dante more than this self-insert.

I mean self-inserts are fine in fanfiction when fans of a series want to be the character themselves or be in the same party as the cast, or self-inserts in game where the player creates their own characters to appear in the story (White Knight Chronicles is a good example) and not going TOO over the top (they suppose to be fun and not to be taken very seriously) but when you do a self-insert of this kind to a video game AND being the main character that you want to be... very bad decision, no words can describe this kind of insult to the fans.

The game will still sell... but not to Capcom's expectations and I hope they realize that. Capcom haven't been making grand business decisions as of late.

I'll use this thread as this is somehow related to "DmC" the game.

Quote from: anon
ESRB recently released their rating of DmC Devil May Cry
"This is an action game in which players assume the role of Dante, a demon slayer fixated on avenging the destruction of his family. Players use melee weapons (swords, scythes) and firearms to attack demon hordes in frenetic melee-style combat. Battles are accompanied by realistic gunfire, explosions, and slow-motion effects; large blood splashes occur often as enemies are dismembered and/or killed. Cutscenes also depict intense acts of violence: a giant boss creature chopped to pieces by fan blades; a character getting shot through the stomach; Dante holding up a monster's severed head; a dramatic impaling. Some scenes also depict sexual activity: scantily clad strippers dancing/gyrating provocatively with each other; a woman moving her head toward Dante's lap (fellatio is implied). During one cutscene, moaning sounds can be heard while a female character is bent over a table—a man is positioned behind her, though there is no actual depiction of the sex act. A handful of still images (i.e., concept art) portray women with exposed breasts and/or buttocks. The phrase “crack whore” and words such as “f**k,” “sh*t,” and “c*nt” can be heard in the dialogue."

This is embarrassing. This game is Edgy: The Edgening
