Since we're talking about Godzilla in the Thinking thread and since I mentioned an in-joke regarding a certain Kumonga whom Ringman and I have dubbed the CG Spider, I figured I'd at least pass along an image that will hopefully shed some more light on the in-joke.

This shot was revealed in the Final Wars behind-the-scenes featurette to be a PRACTICAL EFFECT.

Me too. I also love the inside meme that spawned from it. So many uses we can find for Kumonga the CG Spider that Toho keeps stored in a closet!

You know, if they pasted some kind of fur/fuzzy material to the spider model, it probably would've looked a bit more believable.

It does have fur, but it's so fine that it messes with the lighting. It was a combination of factors that made Kumonga look fake, those being the texture, lighting, colors, and movement. Kumonga was basically a big marionette, so the movement was floaty; the fuzz diffused the lighting, the colors stood out too much, and they all came together to make Kumonga look like badly-keyed CGI.
