Because making it SNES style won't change if it's a quality game or not, it would just be taking an inferior sprite style for the sake of nostalgia and ease of creation.
exactly, that plus the fact theres no nostalgia in a certain style if there never was a predominant one.
there have been 3 X games spanning over 3 different consoles. 3 Snes games, 3 PS1 games, and 3 PS2 games.
so the bullcrap about nostalgia doesnt apply to the X series. for Classic its understandable, as the style has predominantly been 8 bit NES style, and technically only RECENTLY were classic megaman games made for other systems, with only 1 game across 2 other consoles. 1 Snes game, and 1 PS1 game. while the NES has 6 to its credit.
One would think a PS1-era looking X9 would be better received, and that's usually the sprite design that people associate with the series.
Plus this. I say X4 and 5 are the cause, as they have some of the best graphics, music and the strongest story.
