The camera is zoomed in so far that it feels more like a GB remake than an NES remake
That's exactly what this refers to. Body-to-screen-size ratio is a big part of what makes NES MegaMan NES MegaMan (The GB games, if you're unfamiliar, use NES-size sprites on an obviously infinitely smaller screen, thus mandating slower shots, shorter jumps, etc. They're very tricky to get into if you didn't play them back in the day.).
It's especially detrimental when remaking MM
1, which lacks any refinements that the series later saw. There are no health reserves, no "Item/Rush" equipment; hell they even removed the Magnet Beam. MM1 is the absolute bare-bones of MegaMan gameplay, and PU takes that and tries to rely on NES nostalgia in a very un-NES-feeling physics setup. Sure, there's a truckload of extra players, and that is
WONDERFUL, but the core design feels like one big mixed message.
