It would seem as though Siliconera has found a really interesting tidbit in a recent trademark filed by Capcom. Capcom's USA branch has trademarked the title "Mega Man Universe" and the fans are getting down to the guess work. So far, folks have thought of everything, from things as modest as new art book series to a new full fledged MT Framework flagship blue bomber entry on consoles. Whatever this may turn out to be, it's sure to keep us guessing as the only info we have is said name.

Quote from: SiliconeraPerhaps, Mega Man Universe is their next major Mega Man project. Capcom trademarked Mega Man Universe in the USA and they have a pretty good track record when it comes to using trademarks. Remember Okamiden, Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes, and Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth? All of those games were outed by trademark registrations dug up by Siliconera.

This discovery comes just a day after Seth Killian, Capcom's Community Manager, hinted at a surprise for Mega Man fans.

So what do you all think? Expecting something amazing? Keeping your hopes tempered? Or cynical and doubtful? Whatever the thought, you can share it all here. Discuss!

Universe...wasn´t there once the rumor about Megaman and co. going to space? XD
For the time being I won´t be thinking about this too much

But really now.

I kinda wish... and you might disagree with me here... for a new spinoff. Nothing like BN or SF though.

Megaman Universe?
Rockman World?

:O

Just my wild guess tho, there's no connection. XD

Actually you are not alone, I´d rather too see something new in the MM franchise.

Actually, I say that it makes sense. The universe is made up of many worlds, so, Rockman World collection finally coming out?

I don't think that a collection qualifies as "big project", but you never know how Capcom's ticking.

Well, Inafune himself was hinted at plodding away at something that even HE was excited to be working on. I'm thinking it's either a DASH sequel, or at least something relating to the brand that made him a household name.

Part of me still could go for a nice cross-over project starring the various characters. They do that, and maybe whomever gets into MvC3 won't be taken with so much gnashing of teeth.

Tickle Buffalo

Maybe they're trying to top Mario Galaxy.

Not that that'd be hard, I suppose.

This has to do with Capcom USA. I think everyone is getting a little too excited. Japan develops the Rockman Games, not America. It's probably just some marketing lingo or trademark thing.

Solar

Yes, but CoJ could've simply not made a trademark yet. Everything is possible at the moment =/

Yeah, this.

After all, copyright bloodhounds have been doing this for years, and that's how these types of "leaks" are found out. Doesn't matter which side makes it, as long as it relates to one main product.

Let's not forget "OUR TEH MM9" was leaked from, of all possible things...an Austrialian Ratings site, a mere few years ago.  8D

Turian

True. Didn't consider that one. I'm still skeptical, but intrigued.

EXE MMO please =(
Nooooooo!... [parasitic bomb], that would be rather more likely, wouldn't it.

Mirby

Judging by the name, it would be a Star Force MMO; they'd go with something more internet-related for EXE.

Whether its american or not, you guys are forgetting that Inafune was recently promoted, and issued this statement.

Quote"Whether games are created in America or Japan or anywhere in the world, I will be the one overlooking it, and so it will have that Capcom flavor that fans know and love," Inafune told attendees of the company's Hawaiian soirée last week. "So one of the things I want people to know is that now that I am overseeing every part of Capcom R&D. You can be sure that that unified vision is going to come through in all of our titles no matter where they are created."

AND, Seth's words on some megaman project

Quote"It's good. I don't want to say nobody has seen it coming. Somebody may have seen it coming. But it excited me and when I heard about the project, I was like, 'Holy crap. That's rad.' I actually haven't seen anything that's going on with the project right now but the idea was exciting.  This is still kicking around as a concept. But there are exciting ideas in the Mega Man space."

...When Larry the reploid accountant goes maverick of his own accord, he's certainly formidable during tax season, but he isn't going to provide X the challenge needed to make him grow as a warrior and reach his potential.

Thinking about it: Thanks to MPX we know that there's going to be another X Game, not X9 and this name being trademarked makes me think of something:
A MMO ABOUT THE MAVERICK HUNTERS!

Hm? Who/what is MPX?

But in any case, I'd place more stock in something like Monster Hunter + Mega Man. Two game properties that have done exceptionally well for Cappy, and the online structure would fit something Rockman perfectly. You get together, you go hunt Robot Masters/Irregulars/Mavericks with your pals.

Many thanks. Any way, all that does is seemingly point to the notion of what Inafune has said already: no X game is in production right now, and if one does occur, IHX2 is more likely than X9, at this point in time.

It'd be nice certainly, if this new project was related to X to some degree, but through something like this? I'd rather "MMU" was its own original MegaMan creation, rather than trying to have some "The Old Republic" style spin-off fit into an already established part of the series.
