I always heard that they were the Legendary Cats. Hmm...

Quote from: Bulbapedia
Entei is a lion-like creature that bears resemblance to a Mastiff.
Raikou is a yellow tiger-like creature with black stripes that resemble lightning bolts and a white under-side.
Suicune is a blue wolf-like creature with some feline characteristics, white rhombus-shaped spots and a white underside.
Well, Entei is cat-like, yet resembles a dog. Raikou is cat-like. Suicune is dog-like (Wolves are basically wild dogs. Gray Wolf scientific name: Canis Lupus; Pet Dog scientific name: Canis Domesticus. Both part of the Canis genus, or dogs) yet has cat characteristics. Thus, the legendary CATS. (cue AYBABTU joke)

what the [tornado fang] did you just type?
Mastiffs are dogs. If they all resemble dogs then they are dogs.

they dont think it be like it is but it do

Mirby

Ah. But Raikou doesn't resemble a dog! Therefore your point is moot.

Actually, I don't really care. Cats, dogs, all that matters is that they're Legendary Beasts.

Okay then, Raikou is a tiger, Suicune is a wolf, and Entei is a really big [tornado fang]ing dog.

they dont think it be like it is but it do

Why does it matter, really? Can't we all just call them "Entei-Raikou-Suicune"?

Uh, but... what the hell is the Dunsparce supposed to be?

I put on my [twin slasher] face.

I also go by Spectro D., Idylleaus, Malabar, and Dumb-bit Twofuck.

Hypershell

I believe the neutral term is "Beast Trio".

Yeah, I can't really imagine Raikou as a dog either.  Entei could go either way.  Suicune is the toughest to pass as a cat, though, what with the snout.

Don't apologize to him.  He's the Green Ranger.  He can be defeated with Wax!
Yeah, but an electric force-field can undo that.

In the next episode of Pokemon, Green Ranger kicks everyone's ass, steals pikachu and gives it to Team Rocket, and then blasts off into the sky with his rocket boots.
Everyone wins.
Oh my god, why did I just think of a Pokemon equiv of the Axem Rangers?

The three legendaries in Johto were dogs.
Raikou was definitely NOT a dog!  They're all just "beasts."

Er...what about the Legendaries? You can't go really go higher than God.

Maybe evolutions for existing ones?

Quote from: Protoman BluesWily was tired of living in Dr. Light's gluttonous, douche shadow.  Rightfully so, too!  He didn't betray Light.  He valiantly, dare I say, HEROICALLY, casted off his shackles and asserted himself to his rightful place, going so far as to bring order to a world of chaos!

Mirby

Hmmm....
Your Articuno is evolving! Congratulations! Your Articuno evolved into Frigivier!
Your Zapdos is evolving! Congratulations! Your Zapdos evolved into Blitzcinc!
Your Moltres is evolving! Congratulations! Your Moltres evolved into Burnseis!

I don't know, but it's about all they can do now.

Sez who? And why do they have to be higher than god? I don't really see a hierarchy between the 1st-3rd gen legendaries.

Gen1 & Gen2 were basically elements. Gen3 represented Earth, Sea, and Sky (with more elements thrown in). Gen4 represented Time, Space, and Deities (once again, with more elements). Unless they make some sort of Legendary version of normal Pokemon (LEGENDARY EEVEE!) then I don't know what they're gonna do.

Gaia

They'll prolly throw in Norse/Egyptian/Lesser-god based pokemon.

I can see it now..

"POKEMON: ANUBIS VERISION and POKEMON: THOR VERSION. Play as a rocket henchman shooting to the top while on a extra-secret mission without blowing your cover and collect useless badges once again!"

And the starters would be some kind of stolen pokemon from some region, imported. They must be on the deep end if this were to happen.

Yep, every time when someone mentions that game people get energized for an apparent reason whatsoever. It's like this everywhere else, trust me.

It got really messy to find my sprite and comic topic, so it's in my sig.

They already have, it' called Regigigas... In English at least.

Mirby

Regigigas is basically the upper level of the Regis from Hoenn. That's all, basically a new addition to a class established in the previous generation. Lugia and Ho-oh are the same way (new Legendary Birds like Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres). So they could do that, I suppose.

Hypershell

I think Mirby meant legendary versions of non-legendary Pokemon.

Which is not happening because a great deal of legendary Pokemon can be outdone by non-Legends anyway, as Regigigas of all 'mans certainly demonstrates (many others suffer limited move pools or oddly balanced stats).  A legendary is simply one-of-a-kind, and expected to have high base stats, but may or may not be actually useful.

I don't see a hierarchy between games either.  The only reason Kyogre and Groudon [twin slasher] all the others is because they abuse the Ability mechanic new to their generation, and all the oldies got stuck with Pressure.  As far as surpassing the folklore surrounding them, well, the legends of the first two generations were more mysterious than anything.  Same from the Regi trio.  A detailed background for a "legendary" Pokemon was, outside of Mewtwo (which is natural since he was a product of science), pretty much new to 3rd Gen.

You forgot parallel universes (Giratina).

Also, Gen 3 revisited sea and sky after Gen 2 already did them.

True. Forgot that's what they were. Although Lugia and Ho-oh could also be Light and Dark (Ho-oh was associated with the sun, if memory serves, and Lugia seems dark to me, so... yeah). Regardless, we need more EEVEELUTIONS!

Considering "Dark" as a type was introduced with Lugia's debut I do not believe that was the intention at all.  Despite being typed Psychic much of Lugia's powers revolve around water.  There is the whole "darkness of the ocean depths" shpiel, but there are definitely legends darker than Lugia (mainly Giratina and the apty named Darkrai).

Of course, Ho-oh does have the whole rainbow thing going.

What, with pokemon named after the planets? Then that would mean... *counts on fingers* About 7 more legendaries, as more often than not, Earth (or Terra) gets left out of that equation and Pluto's not a planet anymore (which I believe to be bull [parasitic bomb]).

I always interpreted as Ho-oh being colorful, while Lugia being colorless. Still, I'm glad that it's not a Water/Flying, otherwise it'd be a bit hard to actually use.

There's also the possibility of having universe or galaxy-based Pokemon if they don't want to have expies of Sailor Moon.
