Why is my DVR constantly changing the channel to 997 (C-SPAN)? I don't want the [tornado fang]ing thing going to a channel I don't watch, more importantly I don't want it changing the channel without my input. Especially when I'm not sleeping.

Probably a default setting you forgot to change even though it says right there in the manual on page 135.

No I think its probably my DVR being stupid.
Its done stuff like shut down/reboot after deleting something from a series with 30/40 recordings, which causes the [tornado fang]er to lose the guide and [parasitic bomb].

Separate speakers. The more separated the parts, the cheaper [parasitic bomb] is to replace. And since it's speakers, you just know they'll blow before the monitor, uh, does whatever a monitor does when it breaks.
