I don't know about culture, but one or two minutes on Google taught me the following.

Japan's healthcare is better
Japanese technology is more energy efficient
Employment rates are higher
Less of a class divide
Aaaaand An 80+ percent chance of not getting an STD

By this logic, Japan > USA in those aspects.

Does that count?

Yeah, I agree. Eden's premise was really good but a few episodes in it started taking a turn for the worse.
As for the movies, I refuse to watch them. I'm just going to pretend the anime itself is a closed experience.
