There are been 5 sidescrolling Sonics since Sega stopped making hardware. Face facts, 2D or 3D, there just isn't going to be another S3&K...

Though IMHO a big part of that is Sega's refusal to allow super forms during replays. Could you imagine replaying the Adventures as Super Sonic? That would kick over 9000 asses.

Yeah, that's another annoying thing that's reaching near meme like status. Sonic + 2D does not automatically equal awesome. Hell, there's no guarantee it'll even equal good. The problem is no one is making good game design, no matter what the dimension, using Sonic at Sega anymore.

Sadly that's not even exclusive to Sonic. NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams was positively horrendous. Granted I have not played the next-gen STH which is allegedly a rushed pile of crap, but I think NiGHTS was one of the worst efforts I have seen Sonic Team put forward. A Wii game that can't even get the pointer right, something is terribly wrong there. Sonic looks extremely polished next to that.

I'm a huge Sonic fan, so this is painful to say but...I honestly don't know how Sega stays in business. Like Hypershell said, their horrible game design is not exclusive just to Sonic games. Any games they're in charge of turn out to be crap. They rush their games before they have been properly tested and debugged. They cut corners in maps and coding. This is exposed during normal gameplay with wonky cameras, poor physics, and a horrendous amount of clipping errors. This started as far back as the Dreamcast days, but it's only gotten worse as time went on.

It's really all about the Benjamins in the end. SEGA had to cut so much just to live on life support this whole time. They throw out their older licenses as an attempt to cash grab as best as possible and hope to make a comeback, but along the way, they lost too much of their talent and are now just doomed to mediocrity.

There aren't enough Jet Set Radio, Ristar, NightS, Space Channel 5, or Phantasy Star traditional RPG fan games of quality or note though, so even then, it's still slim pickings for oldbie SEGA lovers.

Could be because (most) of the game library being multiplayer that brings the competitor out of you in both the Wii and DS.

I'm more of a Nintendo freak. Can't survive a generation without my Mario and Zelda and Metroid fix.

I'm not a console hater though... it's just preference. I own the PS3 and it is awesome.

Half & half here. I was more of a Nintendo advocate pre-Gamecube era due to their games' consistency and me being too young to buy my own consoles. Sometime during last gen though something clicked and I started branching out everywhere and anywhere I could. Now, I'm just a gamer with a slight tilt towards Nintendo.

Also money. These things ain't cheap ya know.
