Zero was more ferocious in the X series too. He had different moves in every game and even gave us new Z-saber combo from X6-X8. Whereas X.... He couldnt learn to shoot in any other direction, unless it was a default homing (X7), without the help of special weapons. -applaudes Bass-

They're both rather stereotypical...
Probably it has a lot to do with associating the games with the character.
Still, scenes like
C: Leave my body here..
Z: ...I will do as you ask.
and of course his dying words, are probably big influencers.

I was referring more to gameplay.  Zero got the same damn saber EX Skills for three games in a row (and sans ice-element buster, all EX Skills had obviously peaked by Z3).

I prefer Zero's personality in ZERO, that's my reason. Also, who needs flashy upgrades when you can slice and dice with Zero's saber already? I never bothered with Zero's upgrades in both series.

I like X just SLIGHTLY more cause I love his voice actor in japan, and his depiction in Command Mission and X Hunters was not bad either.   Zero gets props too.... every Mega needs his Proto

I do like Zero in those much more, but I can't play Xtreme2 forever (plus frankly the story was just lame), and X6 has other parts I don't agree with.
Wish the useful z-buster in X6 would make a return...

X.  Playing as Zero is a lot of fun, but I like the more traditional Mega Man feel that X brings to the table.

X has unlimited potential, Zero has limited range.   

With that out of the way, if X were to ever breach his breaking point, going psycho while in the heart of MHHQ, help his reputation!?  I answer, Yes.

I prefer X.  He's the perfect protector for the planet and his character combines justice, compassion, and inspiring leadership.  He also has limitless potential and generally ends up being totally overpowered, which is awesome.

Ahh tough question indeed. I cannot decide between my favorite Rockman characters.

X - He is a quick and powerful badass with caring human emotions, a strong sense of justice, and, as Mr. Acrosurge stated, inspiring leadership (the proof is in how he created Neo Arcadia for both humans and reploids (until Copy X took over and screwed it up)). He always worried for others and that, in turn, is the secret to his power. The 'X' in his name represents infinite power and infinite possibilities. He can obtain weapons from irregulars and strong powers in the armors from capsules (that and he's the first RM character I've ever played with so yeah).

Zero - Dude the guy is just awesome. He wields a freaking sword! He sacrifices himself for his friends and no matter how many times he's "died" he always comes back stronger than before! He is calm, collected, and always follows orders (pure loyalty man ). Instead of getting weapons from irregulars he learns their battle techniques. Also he is basically the first maverick; no matter what's in his past he never lets it get to him, in fact he destroyed Omega (original Zero body with maximized powers) proving that he is the one and only Zero (that can kick your ass with or without his awesome power).

Maybe one more than the other at times but I can never choose between those two. -^^-"

By all technicalities, X is the true Megaman/Rockman character here, and I feel that this is correct. IMO, sure there can be sabers, but if you ever remove the shooting, then it's not a MM/RM game.

Axl is a fusion of Zero and X. he has a ranged shooting weapon, but it is handheld. he has a round head, but with two pronged things. he has hair. he can air dash, and hover. he can copy boss weapons almost identical to X's, plus he has a chest crystal.

Whoa. I should NOT say that too many times fast.

But yeah. Mainly because his voice actor in Maverick Hunter X was just pure awesome.
"My hand glows with an awesome power!!"
And then he deals Sigma those eye scars. Yeah, that part was awesome.

And I like his personality. Pure-hearted and all that. I haven't played X7, but I'm pretty sure it effs up his image.
