That's because it's a live-action movie based on a cartoon show. Most people are going in with biased opinions, expecting it to be horrible, so they come out thinking the same. I'd post my argument here, but it'd be a waste of time.

I've never seen the cartoon, but I saw the trailer to that movie I believe, and I was none too excited or impressed just by that alone.

The acting in it is pretty much THE very worst acting I have ever seen in a movie. The story and backstory's butchered in order to become nigh-incomprehensible, the events are a total jumble, the transitions are very badly done, camera angles suck, and... well, I don't know. I've watched the Street Fighter movies. I've watched Santa Claus versus The Aliens. I've watched Meet The Spartans. Troll 2. Son of the Mask. MST3K stuff.

I think this is the worst movie of all time that didn't actually entertain me in the slightest bit. The story was [tornado fang]'d up to the point of nigh incomprehensibility, and none of the actors were ever believable. And THEY MADE A MARTIAL ARTS MOVIE BORING. I still can't believe that. Everything's subtracted from the spirit of the show. They turned the most narratively-coherent cartoon of all time into a horrible thing.

In the original show, you may remember how beautiful the battle sequences were. The elements basically flowed with the bodies of the benders, and with the moves they made. It was incredible how each bit of element jumping around seemed like a direct action from them, as if they were moving it around with their own hands. You knew it was them who was doing it, because it flowed naturally.



In the movie?



Five Earthbenders do a huge kung fu routine. AFTER they finish, a tiny rock flies by as if it was being held by a fishing pole. I coulda picked up that thing myself and just thrown it at the other dudes with just a little bodily effort. I mean, what the HELL.
