Updated both Trance and Jazz' quotes on the front page! Sorry for the late reply.

BTW, I'm working on Gothica's tileset, starting with the floor part. What do you think so far?

Blackhook

Hmmm, not too sure what to say about the tiles. Why it doesn't look bad in itself, I think they look a bit flat. Right now it looks like tiles from Super Mario brothers. Perhaps the bricks are too small.

Anyways, I wanted to ask if you need some more spriting help?

MagVanisher

How about this one, is there any improvement?

And yes, I need help! Thank you, Blackhook!

Blackhook

It certainly looks better, but since I don't know the theme of the stage, I can't really tell what you are going for.

Also, if I can help with spriting, I would like a PM of what I should do.

Raging-Banebou

I'm guessing the theme for Gothica's stage is like one of those gothic castle settings that takes place in night-time, sort of like in this pic, for example.

I think I'm doing a slightly-cute rendition of Castlevania... with some Alice in Wonderland elements if I could include it.

Here's another small update. So far, it's just the wall and platform portion of the stage. I'll do the background once I'm done with the foreground!

EDIT: Added the purple background.

And here's a mock-up of it!

Gatuca

No offense but those tiles still needs lots of work to make me think on Megaman.

maybe you should look at the tiles of the stages of each game like maps to get inspiration on hoe the shading works on those, as well as their forms.

MagVanisher

Yes, I think so... Maybe I should add some variety on both the foreground and background instead of having generic bricks, correct?

Yoku Man

Now you guys know how hard its been for me, making the Met Factory stage tileset! I agree with Gatuca, take a good long look at all the existing GB maps to get a taste of the style of tiles used. Getting that right shading and look, that feels Mega Man-esque, is key!

Blackhook

If you want something castle themed, well, look at castlevania , Knightman and perhaps even Kid Dracula tiles to get the right feeling.

MagVanisher

Yes, even Blade Man too... Of course, I fear that I'm duplicating their tilesets so I have to avoid that.

BTW, can anyone help me make some enemy sprites?

Gatuca

As a Tip, take a look also to the maps of the original NES games (preferably starting with Megaman 3, cause the 1st 2 games graphical cores hasn't aged well) as well of certain late Capcom NES games JUST to get some ideas.

Did some updates on Gothica's tileset. As for the pillars, should I use the grey one or the red one, or keep them both?

Gatuca

The Red Pillar Looks Decent Enough. but the rest STILL needs re-work to fit the megaman graphical scheme.

Experimentation time! I would to know what color scheme should I choose for the background and the foreground?

Dark Grey and Purple.

Okay, but pick one which you like it the most. That's for the background.

Now for the walls, which shade of brown should I use?

Kirby Pink

This any better? Just gave it a quick try.

MagVanisher

Yeah, looks better but I want to try it myself. Thank you anyway!

As a general rule of thumb, you want darker and/or colder colors in the background. For the foreground tiles, which one can interact with, you should opt for more vibrant brighter ones.

MagVanisher

Any improvements with this one? I hope it does...
