Well... not in official projects.
True.
Um, lets see. Giant Mecha? No, that's more Robotnik style...
Also, I still want the sword to sing! 8D (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6u8wBfDtZkE)
Well, let's see:

Space/Giant Mechas (Robotnik)
Rivals

Arthurian/Medieval
Werehog
Aliens
So what's left?

Still, he could go through a number of time periods i.e. Chrono Trigger or TMNT IV.
Sonic Soccer, perhaps?

So far, no princess that needs saving, and of course, the big scary dragon that's keeping her there. :\
What if that's a stage in this game? This game just screams for something like that, with Amy most likely being the princess.

And actually make use of the characters' individual traits? Yeah, sounds good.
Unlike Mario Strikers which, just, kinda used everyone's "style" rather than their form and skills.
As a goalie, Tails could fly overhead and drop the ball at a certain spot after catching it.
Sonic would be
the fastest runner.
Knuckles, instead of catching the ball as goalie, could punch it at one person knocking them out for however long.
Etc.

Personally, I don't think the Sword was enough. He also needs a Bow & Arrow. Maybe a Boomerang as well.
Bombs, a shield, a green elf cap, and three triangles on his hand. amirite?

It's armor.
The sprites in these games are as plastic-y as the Sonic Heroes models. You can see the same fleshtone skin Knuckles has always had in one of the shots.
Can't really see very well, though.
Knuckles is obstructed by effects most of the time, or too small to make out much detail. But looking at Sonic, his texture isn't anywhere *NEAR* as bad as Heroes ('s lack thereof) was.

I can't believe Knuckles isn't using Kendo. He's got the hands for it; he should be shrugging off swords left and right.
In fact, he should be breaking armor and swords.
Knuckles should not even be using swords at all although prospect of dual sword wielding Knux does sound satisfying.

Eh, I dunno.
I'm thinking that, if they intend to do more to stay to Arthurian mythos, the "Arthur" that is masquerading as the Black Knight is probably Mordred (or an accomplice), while the REAL Arthur is Calibur, the sword. Probably was turned into the sword upon Mordred getting the upper hand.
It's simple and yet contrived enough, that I bet Sega would use such an angle. Sonic is not known for Pulitzer-material in their storylines, after all. -u-'
As for Tails' role? If he's a knight, then he'll probably be Galahad, the Knight that represented "Purity" and all that good stuff.
I figure they'd stick Tails in the "Merlin" role.

Oh Ben. Ben Ben Ben. I think we all know the Black Knight is going to be represented by Shadow, talking like the Monty Python Black Knight! Tails will be Galahad, and Knuckles will be Sir Robin! 8D
Something tells me that Eggman will be playing the role of Merlin. Considering he was the King of Persia in SatSR, I doubt he'll have anything of a truly villainous part. That, and he'd probably fit in with the old wizard archetype better than most of the other characters. =P
I wonder if Rouge will play Morgaine Lafayette......or who do you believe will be Lancelot?
...Shadow? Who or what is Shadow?
We don't even know who Knuckles is supposed to be representing, or if any of the characters will represent anyone.
More importantly.. Gamma's making a comeback or something? If so.. he must be a Gundam Knight from Lacroa. (They can apparently live in the same universe due to the theme)

*Ahem* Steampunk Sonic was pre-machinery. so were MS in thier own right in the SD Gundam Gaiden game. they were pretty much based off Arthurian Lengends. (Spycho Golem was never meant to harm anyone in the OVA, that leads to the Gentle Giant in the Arthurian Lengends)
And about the recent cast...
Well, Gamma is more of a "Mobile Suit" than, say, Omega, considering the bird inside, but this is all still a stretch. I mean a regular ol' suit of armor is still considered "mobile", it just doesn't have missiles, scythes, hot chicks in the cockpit, etc.
*facepalm* (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7rM1zTeJas)
I meant these, duh. And yes, Gamma would be nice.

NGamer Preview:
Points in the preview are -
- Stage 1's enemies all seem to be knights
- Double edges sword slows Sonic's attacks down (most definetly due to the fighting style they chose)
- The camera sits behind Sonic most of the time, switching to a side-on view for certain combat and platforming sections - just like Unleashed.
- The winding track-like stages are as much racing game as platform game - just like Unleashed
- Other gameplay elements will see Sonic returning to completed acts to take part in a series of missions and earn more followers.
- Later levels are likely to introduce slightly different play styles. We've even seen one that places Sonic atop a horse-drawn carriage, giving him the opportunity to fend off an ambush from a bunch of nimble assassins
The UK Box. (Hopefully the US Box as well.)

Hmmmm, very interesting indeed. I doubt it'll be a fast as the Day Stages in Unleashed, but still, I'm very interested! XD
For quite some time I've had higher hopes for Black Knight than Unleashed, this just reaffirms it. I think that "no time/budget to make long running stages for the whole game" shpiel may have been more applicable to high-definition systems than the Wii, seeings how environments that you only see for a split-second require that much more detail.
Well, whatever. Definitely buying this one.
Even if Knux is using swords this time around, I would love the oppurtunity to play as dual wielding Knux! owo 0v0
It's bound to be better than Unleashed at this rate.
I wasn't sure when this was first announced, but this is now a must-buy for me.

Well, why not, I guess?
With Secret Rings being the success it was, and SBK probably going to follow suit, there's little reason for Sega to not invest in a separate Sonic brand, exclusively for the whole "storybook" angle.
Next up? Sonic and the Outlaws of the Marsh (which the Suikoden series is loosely based off of). A tale about 108 outlaws? That would surely give them PLENTY of excuse to throw in Sonic and ALL of his lil friends in one game.... 8D

Notice the lower right-hand corner? It seems SEGA is making the storybook based Sonic games an ongoing spin-off series.
I hate to say it but that
is some pretty sweet box art. Still, this game will suck, because it is Sonic, recent, and not 2-D.

I'm not really seeing it. The Sonic series may have alot of characters, but I just don't see that many from the games able to fit into Star Wars' character roles, at least properly. Eggman as a bumbling Emperor and Metal Sonic as Darth Vader, though.. bVd

Quote from: Nintendo PowerThe Feb. 2009 Nintendo Power has a small bit about the Black Knight in it. A couple interesting facts from it:
It uses woodcut-esque cut-scenes aside from the opening movie (like Sonic and the Secret Rings did with storybook scenes).
Shadow is Sir Lancelot, Knuckles is Sir Gawain, and Amy Rose is the Lady of the Lake.
Shadow and Knuckles are playable in the multiplayer battles after you've defeated them in the one-on-one duels in single player mode.
The multiplayer mode lets you either go sword-to-sword against up to three others in a free-for-all or you team up together to defeat a giant baddie as quickly as possible.
This time around I've scanned the entire article instead of just the images for you guys. Aren't I nice? I suggest you still go out and buy the Feb 2009 issue of Nintendo Power to see the article for yourselves. It also has an interesting reader question. The reader mentions that Sonic X-Treme (the cancelled Sega Saturn game) kind of has a Super Mario Galaxy feeling to it. Chris Slate responds saying that he wrote a cover story on Sonic X-Treme for Game Players back in the day and does see a small resemblence now that he looks back. I wonder if Chris has any other inside info about the game from the press side of things...
And according to one of the members at Sonic Stadium:
QuoteI think i read in another preview of this game that it said that Sonic was in a chilidog eating contest when he was summoned into the book. When I first read that I thought they were joking O_o. But now that I read it in the new Nintendo Power preview, I guess it IS true.
Awesome. I'm still very much looking forward to this.
Awesome, I really like what they did with the cutscenes in the previous game, so I'm looking forward to the ones in this one.
Looks interesting. And I continue to have an overall better vibe about this title than I ever did Unleashed.
But seriously....SHADOW is Lancelot? The one hedgehog with all the angst, his emotional problems and prefers to be just, in general, an off-putting, self-proclaimed bad-ass is...LANCELOT?!

I don't care which character is in as who as long as it's not Marine the Raccoon. She must stay in Rush Adventure.
God, I can stand every other "shitty" and unneccesary friend Sonic has, but I HATE Marine, I can't stand her >___<
so Shadow and Knuckles aren't playable in the story mode? good.
I for one am saddened at this new.
Shadow doesn't have a crossbow. Hi Sonic Team, this your ball? You dropped it. :\
Give Sonic Team a break. It's not their fault that Sega is treating them so badly that there's not enough resources to come up with great ideas anymore. Lack of time, bad ideas.
And yes, I'm posting in the right topic.
Who is going to be Morgaine Lafayette or Sir Mordred?
Well, being that Sonic is fighting an evil King Arthur, I doubt they'll use Le Fey or Mordred.
Hmmm, if Amy is the Lady of the Lake, then I wonder if Blaze will be Guinevere.
Shadow as Lancelot? o_o; AHAHAHAHAHAHA...hahaha...ha...

I dunno.
One "obligatory storyline twist" that I think could be in mind, is that the one who is posing as Arthur/Black Knight is NOT Arthur, but rather Mordred, defaming Arthur. Mordred and Morgan were always trying to take the Kingdom for themselves in the storylore, so why not here too?
That would make perfect sense for Calibur, the Sword, to be either Arthur himself (turned into the sword), or some other agent acting on the real one's behalf. After all, who better to supposedly teach Sonic about all there is to being a knight, than the "once and true king" himself?
It's some what contrived, but hey, like I said on RPM before the crash, it's the best plot twist that I could imagine S. Team's storywriters coming up with, if they wanted to keep things at least some what interesting.

I would still argue that they/modern Sonic Team lack focus, more often than not.
If they would do more to stay with a few great ideas that they can develop, rather than be all over the place with a lot of ideas that even THEY seem to have problems imagining where to go with them, they likely wouldn't have had the problems that they would have in the likes of Sonic 06 (and Nights 2, for that matter).
A "lack of time" excuse starts to really lose its "impact", once its plain to see that the ideas that they pose...aren't all that they're cracked up to be, no matter how they try to convey it. I mean, for instance...who's bright idea was to make it so Shadow would drive cars (again) in 06?
Still, I think probably the biggest problem with Sonic, above all else, is that Sonic Team themselves are probably tired of being stuck making his games. If Sega really can't afford to "retire" the brand (or at least, give him an extended break), then how about giving some new blood a chance at him?
I mean, for crying out loud, Sega! You relatively recently got the likes of Treasure back on your good side. PUT THEM TO USE on these types of projects, which could serve to make you and them money, so that you both could stand to fund your own, individual projects! Plus, a Treasure-made Sonic game could stand to be something of greatness...

See, I thought of this as well actually, during a random time I was thinking about Arthurian legend and then suddenly this game popped into my head as well. LoL, way to go Sega!
I'll admit, it does seem the route that they'll possibly go, but Calibur (which I STILL say should sing) could also possibly have something to do with Merlin as well. I still do wonder if he'll have a Super form in this game or not. We shall see.

From the instant SEGA became available, Nintendo should have bought them, cleaned the fat from them and put them to work making new games from their IP pool. Think of how amazing that would be. Hell, Nintendo to an extent made Sonic important again a la the Genesis/SNES wars just by hyping his appearance in Brawl, they could have rallied off of that.
Still though, I'm not going to say that SEGA as of now isn't capable of handling Sonic. Another team should be given a shot at it though. (Smilebit, I'm looking at you.)
lol at Shadow. though his head armor... confuses me...also, I would lol if they actually used Omega in this. a robot in midevil times. more of a logic error than Lancelot Shadow.
something says Tails is gonna end up a stable boy or something. a squire at best.
and if secret rings was any indication, then Id say they will probably come up with a new super form. probably something that will better utilize the games setup.

SEGA of America have put out a new blog entry confirming a few upcoming SEGA games that will be playable at their booth at Comic Con which is going to be held at New York City between Feb 6-8.
Sonic and the Black Knight will be one of those games besides MadWorld, The Conduit, and The House of the Dead: Overkill and the event will be one of the first times the public will have seen the game. Is anyone here going who lives in the U.S. or can afford travel to the U.S.? If so we'd love to hear your thoughts on the game.

It's questionable. Megacon is a pretty big comics convention, yet it's slowly becoming more and more weeaboo, at least based on what some of the people we met there who were frequent attendees.
IMO, the whole point of a con is to just go meet non-insane bitches (I.E. NOT those anime fangirls.) and have a party in a hotel room until about 6am. Good times...

LoL, my whole point of a Con is usually just to go, talk to creators and check out panels, and perhaps get an autograph or two. Last year, I met the creators of Thundercats & Galaxy Rangers, two of my favorite 80's cartoon shows. I had a really nice talk with both of them.

Well, It looks like we have a sega toughie, who won't give this a shot. Biasement and poor terms of quality for sonic games has taken it's toll.
... Does anyone that can take a close look at the Black Knight's armor, and notice something strangely similar to X's CM armor?
Design wise, it doesn't look that great at all. I'm really questioning the whole point of the sword if it's not really doing anything special. Secret Rings was given a bit of a free ride because it was early into the console's life and some of the actions the fire ring had made sense. The blade, however, just seems thrown in. Even Sonic Unleashed on Wii/PS2 looks far more entertaining than this, and those two still have a "cheap" feel to them.
Frankly, I'd rather not waste my cash. Usually I can tell when I'll like a Sonic game or not... call it years with the franchise. Unleashed had me at the Holoska trailer. This one though, as much as I found Secret Rings fun, really isn't making me go, "Sega, take my $50."
Well now that I've finally seen the video without it chopping up on me:
- The premise still has yet to sell me, but the game looks decent from what I can tell from the YT video.
- Purple haired female supporting characters are big at SEGA apparently. (Cue Ghost Girl - Merlin Girl comparisons)
- The Knight of The Wind tag makes sense now.
- WHERE. ARE. THE. RINGS?
That's all for now.
...Good eye, Jelly. I didn't even notice that. There's a severe lack of rings in this game. Not that that's a major complaint, but it does deserve a "WTF?"
EDIT: Apparently, you get rings in sacks. They don't seem to be free range.

Must be the fact that Sonic knows Rakkujin. that move was cheap in the X series.

Also, since apparently Merlina is Sharha... why am I expecting the Black Knight to look like Erazor?

I think it was the rolling slash. but still, I swear some of those moves in the gameplay scream Zero. But I have my expectations, game looks fun to play.
I think he means the Kuuenbu in X4, which returned in X5 and is extremely useful for obliterating Sigma's second form rapidly.

SoA's turn at a trailer. Few things to note... aside from sharing a few clips and the somewhat better Gioeli-less theme, you'll see the game in 2D perspective, one, and two, toward the end, Sonic in full Knight style... and very likely what the "final form" will look like.
It still makes me conduct face-palm interfacing, but whatever. Enjoy it, people who like this game.
vocal Knight of the Wind > instrumental Knight of the Wind
(EDITS: Speaking of themes, I just got the idea of looking up the Sonic Unleashed theme on YouTube. As soon as I'm done cleansing my ears with peroxide, I'm signing up Matt Cassamasina for yet another boot to the head for claiming that such a pile of puke somehow beats the 80's rock style themes.)
The idea of full armor being the possible final form isn't my favorite, but I guess we can't have Darkspine Sonic in every storybook game, can we?

Well, it wouldn't make much sense for Darkspines, given that I believe it's the Golden Knight that beats the Black Knight, at least as far as the usual story is concerned.
It does seem that the opening, transformation and ending scenes are rendered by the same people who did the animation for Unleashed HD (and several of its cutscenes) and night of the werehog. It's a shame the rest of the game couldn't get a little bit of a face lift too. Again, aside from the dominant level colors changing, it doesn't look all that different visually from Secret Rings, making it look cheap.

alright, i can live with the sword. but the armor is just plain stupid. if they really wanted a gold knight, what's wrong with just giving Super Sonic the sword?
my expectations are a few points lower now. come on, Sega. prove me wrong. i DARE you.
If they put in Super Sonic, he'd just chuck the sword away and kill things on his own. He did a nice job of shooting Dark Gaia in the head, after all. Completely Kid Goku vs. King Piccolo'd him.
i'm thinking SS could bust out some slick sword moves. all Segs has to do is watch a few episodes of the Future Trunks arc.

That would be pretty sweet... but this is Sega, that won't happen. I bet you it'll end in some friendship speech moment, which even Unleashed ended with... and accented with that god-awful credits song, "My Best Friend."
Ugh... I'd have been happy with just Endless Possibility, the main orchestrated theme and then Apotos Day.

More than likely your right, especially since the Black Knight was taken over by some evil thing (ya know, the same plot device used in damn near every 'puppet' villain), and in truth is King Arthur.
I just want the game play to be good. I thought Secret Rings was pretty decent, but the controls and some missions screwed up the game (dunno if it's a glitch or not, but on one of those race things with the ball of light, it went from -30 to +70 in a single tick and made me lose the race >< ). Since S&tBK is pretty much in a similar vein, it's better to compare it with Secret Rings. One thing they need to do is say "screw the missions, make it more linear" and go for something like "choose the area and act" rather than do "x amount of missions to continue on". As for the controls, make them a bit more responsive and not faked up. Something like having the Nunchaku and flailing around seems better than having to guide something and the damn blue blur not turn around or back up or whatever even when he's standing still.
Honestly, I like the armor. Considering how it goes with the theme, it's better than Super Sonic wielding a giant sword. Though, what sucks is, there's only going to be one damn level you can play as that form in. How do I know this? Answer me this, when was the last time you could play as Super Sonic whenever the hell you felt like it on a console game?
I would assume Brawl doesn't count. :P
On the one hand,
YEAH, SLAP US IN THE FACE SOME MORE, SONIC TEAM.
THE ARMOR GOES SUPER?! PLEASE.
On the other hand,
Well, it does make sense to do that instead, for reasons already explained.
What IM tired of is "epic orchestrated final boss music!" its annoying and only has the opposite effect of making it UN epic. why couldnt they just have damn played endless possibilities?
the game looks fun, but I still dont like the premis. leave the weapons to Shadow. we dont like him with them, but he at least has a history with swords and guns and the like. Sonic.... NO. he belongs in loopdeloop worlds with gold rings just lying around. rings in sacks?
fail. its not sonic unless theres rings lying around loose.
so in all, the game looks cool, and fun and pretty, but Ill probably pass. im not digging Sonic with a weapon. even if its nicely done. plus the failden armor. just give supersonic a sword, and be done with it. you dont need to give him a full suit of armor, because it defeats the point of him being super fast. things like armor should be left to knuckles.

Ordinarily, I'd agree. But just for the sake of buzz-saw spin attacks, I'm willing to try the sword.
As for Shadow, well, I realize Sega thinks that guns give him an edgey tone, but why the hell does he
need them? If you want to run with the projectile mechanic (didn't mind it in ShTH; never played Sonic '06), he has Chaos Spear.
So I guess it's safe to say that after viewing the two trailers, as well as Gold Ranger Knight Sonic, I'm the only one looking even more forward to this game then before? 8D

That's one of the reasons why I loved the first episode of Sonic X so much (Jap BGM works much better than US for that scene, though).
On the other hand, it's also a criticism that can be taken all the way back to Game Gear days....

Really? You'd rather have that whiny voice pissass Jared Riddick screaming his lungs out while kicking the crap out of a gigantic super-evil being? THAT is mood killing, considering the lyrics are already bad. Leave the main theme for the credits. They actually fit as a "the world is saved! Let's party!" thing.
The orchestrated main themes for final bosses will suffice perfectly fine. If you hate it that much, though, you can thank the stars PS3 and 360 are packing the option for custom soundtracks.
Usually I enjoy the use of the main theme as a final boss battle BGM, but there are exceptions. Unleashed is definitely one of them, I hate its main theme. The actual final boss theme used is decent, not the most epic, but it suffices.
The other is Sonic Heroes, the title theme works as a title theme, but for battle, What I'm Made Of was infinitely better (WHY they didn't use it instead of the Sonic Heroes theme for Brawl, I will never know).
The game that definitely SHOULDN'T have replaced the title theme is Adventure, for Perfect Chaos part 2. The spontaneous switch really breaks the flow, and the second BGM blows anyway.
Yes, I agree there. I never did like Perfect Chaos 2's music. Open Your Heart and Live and Learn seemed to have been high energy enough to work as final boss themes too, and that's fine. His World and Endless Possibility don't fall down this group either, along with Next and Unleashed breaking off into a different musical style from just Jun Senoue and his guitar.
Seven Rings In Hand worked very well as the final final boss theme! I mean, it was flawless! 8D
I did like It Has Come To This for the first Erazor fight though. A lot, actually.
Much agreed, PB, much agreed... 8)
I can't tell you how much I WOULD be using Seven Rings In Hand in Brawl if I wasn't such a huge Live And Learn addict.
Although I do miss the Genesis days where the final boss music didn't include lyrics but was final boss music with a cool theme.

This song, much like a good chunk of Secret Rings' OST, is sooooo underrated. I'll tell you, honestly, that I really don't care much for hard rock in general outside of a few exceptions, but damn if this one wasn't good. XD
I'm a fan of the scorpion boss' music. That opening is pretty badass.
Also, that remix of Sonic 3's Final Boss wasn't good... but neither was most of that album. This is one time I'd say Jun Senoue would do a much better job at working on that song.
The best boss music in Secret Rings was EASILY Blue On The Run. Hell, that ranks as one of my favorite all time Sonic songs.
This is utterly random, but serves two purposes:
1. why we'll never see Hyper Sonic in action again, and 2. I feel like it.

Blue On The Run is high up there for me, too. But I'm also a big fan of That's How It Started and It's Come To...... aw hell, I love all the Secret Rings boss themes. >w< Poison Spear is probably lowest on the list, but it's tough to rank the others.

Yeah, Tails was confirmed to be a blacksmith of some sort a lil while ago. A shame, though. I could have seen him working perhaps as "Galahad" or something to that effect. I mean, if they've already done a lot of silliness thus far (Blaze is supposedly "Joan of Arc" now, which makes even LESS sense!), why not, I say? 8D

Blaze, Joan of Arc? That may work if Blaze was a crazy french girl who hears voices who tell her to go off into battle against the English and succeed.

seeing Tails as a blacksmith makes me realize how much Sonic Adventure has ruined his character. i am sick an tired of him being some machine wiz / genius. whatever happened to just being Sonic's pal who follows him around and gives him a boost?
i've come to the conclusion that i flat out despise this game's concept. it the dumbest thing i've seen in a while. seeing Sonic in a full suit of armor was the clincher, really. i can only hope that the gameplay is alright.

Well to be fair, the old games did a pretty poor job of portraying the characters too (mostly due to there being no dialog). In S3&K, Knux went around snickering and chuckling like a fool while setting traps for you (instead of, y'know, actually fighting you). He seemed more like some village idiot Eggman hired to pull pranks on you than a concerned protector of the master emerald (until hidden palace where he
actually fought you...which wasn't until the
end of the game).
Tails himself was always a "machine whiz" since the beginning (hence the "repaired" tornado at the end of Sonic 2, the spaceship from STF, the sub from one of the GG games, etc.). It is only since SA1 that they focused on the genius aspect more (probably due to that fact that they actually added dialog).
To me, it's just mostly due to Sonic Team's general poor writing skills and character portrayal.
And in all honesty, Tails is seen as annoying not only due to the fact that he's all "techy", but also because he was such a poor sidekick (gameplay-wise at least). I can't tell you how many people I knew hated him way before SA1 was even a thought.

typical giant 3 legged alien robot invasion. they have these whip like tentacles too. they pick a person up and basically take them inside the dome on top of the legs and attach this helmet on their heads. the helmets are integrated with their skulls. later, when the people (who wernt captured) find out how to remove them, they instead start using on the humans these metal plates that go directly over the skull inside the head.

Wow, aside from dying from the first boss, he made the game look easy!
Is that ACTUALLY the Hedgehog engine slowed down?
That actually looks pretty fun. How he died on the Mist Dragon, I don't know.
i dunno. i'm more curious as to what everyone is cheering about in the background.
It's not the Hedgehog Engine. It's the Secret Rings engine modified.
The game itself? I should smack anyone who calls Unleashed on-rails but applauds this title. The sword still doesn't sell any benefit whatsoever aside from the game's flavored gimmick. Ideally, I hope this tanks hard. Realistically, Wii owners will eat it up. (sigh)
...May as well throw this out there for those who are too busy with rose-tinted glasses. On Sega's Blog, there's an entry with some details of the game. I figured I may as well set your hype meters off since there's no hope in deterring people from this title:
Quote from: Sega"In the beginning we get a big cut scene in which Sonic is summoned by Merlina, we don't see Sonic prior to this so the first we actually see him he's plummeting to earth bellowing in terror. Before face-planting. Sonic then has to do some acrobatics in order to save his two Chili Dogs that he'd obviously just bought. Confronted by the evil warriors of the Black Knight and the frightened girl who pleads with him for help Sonic shrugs and, after eating one of the Chili Dogs (yes, he coolly makes everyone wait for him to do something) admits he's rather familiar with the drill and proceeds to kick some booty. There are various things that will seem familiar to you but as Sonic himself remarks during the tutorial (yes, there is a tutorial process but it is MUCH better than the one on Secret Rings) "The rules seem a bit different this time." Indeed, there's actually a slight twist in the plot as Sonic is essentially starting as the bad guy trying to stop the legitimate, if corrupted, King. As such he is quickly dubbed a naive. Now, as you go through stages you'll spot lots of fairies (they look like chao heads) about the place.
Yellow Fairies - These give you rings so collect them, you can also get rings through other means such as smashing pots.
Red Fairies - These give a significant boost to your soul gauge, which makes a return from SatSR. The long lines of pearls are replaced by juicy red apples this time around.
Blue Fairies - You'll find these in strings across your path and they will give you a significant speed boost - they are your dash pads.
Missions
Stages increase in length as you go through unsurprisingly, some are simple races through whilst others will see you doing various "heroic deeds" which range from simply helping you to master certain techniques to specific tasks to please the Lady of the Lake, who look remarkably like Amy - which leads to some awkwardness!
In one mission you will have to give the townspeople rings, this involves firstly doing away with any foes around that are terrorising them then pressing the Z button to instigate a conversation. You'll then have to do a little QTE which I assure you is a lot easier and quicker than a certain flying level in Unleashed. Success will give them 20 rings and will make them very happy. Failure will leave them disappointed and you won't be able to try again with them, so beware. If you overshoot you can do a quick sommersault backwards by the way.
Once you've done this the first time you'll soon spot the odd villager in other stages who has a speech bubble over their head. Talking to them will start another QTE for ring and success will gain you a mystery present.
Unlockables, Collectables & The Art Contest
As you pass through the game you'll find and gain all sorts of little collectables that you will have to identify outside of levels. There are 200 in all to collect and include special badges of rank should you defeat a lot of foes, etc. You'll be able to trade these with friends over Nintendo Wi-Fi.
You'll also unlock special media as you go in a vault similar to the book from SatSR, I've seen character art, cut scenes, music and art all mentioned as well as one tab for "character voices" hmmmm.... But one of the first things you'll get is three videos. These videos contain the European/Australian, American/Canadian and Japanese winners of the Sonic & The Black Knight art contest with their names emblazoned across the bottom!
Versus The Knights
I played through until I got passed Knuckles (Gawain), who is the second of the triumvirate (great word that) of Knights you will face on your way up to fighting the Black Knight himself. Knuckles is very honourable naturally enough and has grave doubts about his King's actions which deeply trouble him whilst Shadow (Lancelot) shows unwavering loyalty despite the Black Knight's meanings.
The 1-on-1 duels are fast, furious and intense!
Also during cutscenes where you encounter the Knight of the Round table in the back ground you'll here instrumental versions of musical themes associated with them. Shadow had "Throw It All Away" whilst Knuckles, who was not dozing in the dusk, has his instrumental of "Unknown from M.E.". I didn't get to Blaze (Percival) so I'll be very interested as to what hers might be... because she's never really had a 'theme' as such."
Well... at least they finally ditched "All Fail Shadow".
Bringing his TRUE theme? it's much more suiting to the theme than All Hail Shadow. You know, I was thinking Vela-Nova for Blaze, a recreation of Sonic Rush's 7th Boss fight. If not, then Silver's theme then for her.

You know, I just don't get it, how is it that SEGA can perfectly nail a stable Sonic engine, tease the [tornado fang] out of us with gameplay that looks good, but still flood the game with unnecessary design choices?
EDIT - What the [tornado fang]? Momentum based platforming, is that you? Weird thing is, the sword swings will break the flow so quickly while he's on foot.
I want to try this one before I criticize it from a gameplay video, but damn, it just seems like this is the first 3D Sonic that looks like if it removed the sword based gameplay and was given a different coat of paint similar to let's say the creativity of Unleashed's day stages, would be completely amazing. And on Wii no less.
Quote from: Jericho on February 07, 2009, 04:30:09 AMWeird thing is, the sword swings will break the flow so quickly while he's on foot.
Well, if Nintendo Power is to be trusted, the sword fighting doesn't interrupt the flow too much.
The Nintendo Power review sounded way too kiss-ass. I'm not surprised, though. Nintendo Power rating a Nintendo Wii title well is as shocking as Game Informer giving out 10s to over-hyped titles. Neither should be taken seriously at all.
IGN's seemed to say the sword controls were annoying, almost clumsy because of the lag time between firing the attack and actually damaging the enemy... time which the enemy can quickly counterattack you. The video really did not help the game look any more amusing. This would be the part where someone makes a slideshow for Sega saying [Unleashed Day Levels and Music: Good!] [Unleashed Night Levels: Okay! Needed more Knuckles!] [Werehog gimmick: NO!] [Sword gimmick: NO!][Any other useless gameplay addition to Unleashed Day play style: NO!]

I don't know... the same people were against the media flow in their review of Sonic Unleashed Wii.
And on the other hand they were the ones to review the superior 360 version of Unleashed worse than Sonic the Hedgehog. One just can't know what IGN's thinking.
Then there's also the fact that IGN Nintendo (mainly Matt & Bozon) desperately want Sonic to return to glory, but are also two of the biggest persecutors of bad design choices in the Sonic games as of late.
then there's the fact that all game mag reviews suck and should not be trusted, and most certainly not be used as the determining factor if you buy a game or not.

I...wasabletoplay Sonic AND THE Black Knight ay the Comic Con forrrrrrrr...a little bit. SO FAR, my impressions of the game are...
LoL, I don't feel like typing Shatner-ish for the rest of this!
Anyway, I did have a chance to play this and I gotta say, my impressions of the game are mixed. I think the game has potential, but the demo is very lackluster. However, the issue at hand is that the Demo is just the practice level it seems like, and if Secret Rings is any judge, the practice level makes for a lackluster demo. But, like Secret Rings, you can update the sword and such, so I'm assuming the same power ups are in the game, so feasibly he can get more moves, greater speed, and all that jazz. Sadly, due to the loudness of other games, I couldn't hear the music for the level. The controls seemed fine to me and the sword didn't bother me at all. However, I also keep in mind that this is a demo, and some demos just plain suck or aren't calibrated very well.
As of now, I'll probably do what I did with Sonic Unleashed and have the Ninja of Lou rent it so I can try it out before I decide whether or not to purchase it. I'm still looking forward to the game, but also, I'm [tornado fang]ing poor! 8D

Still don't know why Sonic would ever need a sword. Or WHY they haven't made a game modeled after the comics yet. Bean, Bark, and the Destructix need an appearance. >>
There's been a large motion from the dumber part of the fanbase to do the recent Scourge storyline in the comics into a game.

I don't know... the same people were against the media flow in their review of Sonic Unleashed Wii.
Matt Cassamasina is also the same guy who claimed Heroes was an improvement over the Adventures, and a frequent basher of their soundtrack style. I NEVER trust IGN when it comes to Sonic, least of all Matt. He usually writes well but his Sonic reviews are highly opinionated.
We've also had some feedback coming in from some of our drones in the Sonic Scene who noted people who played the game looked really bored and unimpressed, including those that were eager to give it a go. Largely, the response has been, "lackluster", "meh", "nothing special"... citing the game felt dull and controlled poorly. PB might be able to shed some light more on this since today's the last day for the convention, I believe, so long as he isn't glued to that lovely little title called Madworld... I wouldn't blame him if he was.
Pretty much, I'm seeing this title setting up to be a failure. However, since the Wii is lacking anything resembling a game (discounting the buckets and buckets of licensed tripe shovelware) with the last "good" title being Sonic Unleashed, this one will still sell.
From what I've heard I believe Deadly Creatures would be a better place to look if you're searching for relief from the Wii drought.
That being said......hey, it's Sonic, and it has a good theme song. I KNOW I'll buy it, it's just a matter of whether or not I'll be patient enough to wait for the price drop. Which at this rate I probably will.

Depending on your definition of "good," I would presume.
Good is subjective, of course. But in this case, it seem a few people seem to regard the Wii version of Unleashed as pretty good.
Near every Sonic game gets a luke-warm reception at release. Some avid opposition and some supporters. If even Heroes had its supporters, then "a few people regard it as pretty good" doesn't say anything. Personally, I'm a huge skeptic of the were-hog and I found the main theme song of the game to be positively ear-splitting, so I'm not all that anxious to buy it right away, especially for what is effectively half a good game. I already did that for NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams and regretted it. Maybe when it's cheap I'll back-track.

Pretty much. Ideally, the last half of the year is going to be so jam-packed with goodness, there will be no doubt that the Wii will deliver in Japan. And I'm sure TGS '09 will keep the ball rolling well into 2010.
It's the US that needs more though. Hopefully E3 will stand to deliver on what the West can stand to get too.

You guys honestly didn't see Silver coming? He got a bit of a following from Sonic Next and has gained a few more from, of all places, the Archie comic in the current storyline.
Also, Bentley Jones, the guy who did Dreams of an Absolution in Sonic Next, confirmed he did a song for Sonic and the Black Night (likely a remix for Silver's theme), and will apparently be releasing it on his myspace sometime today or this week. Just a little tidbit for the music lovers out there.

You've got a point there, however, there's always the chance that he's multiplayer only like in Secret Rings.
I have a feeling he'll be in as a boss character. Silver has enough of a popularity (more than Tails... shocking, I know) that I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the story. At the same time, though, how Sonic will recognize him outside of making Rivals "continuity" (like the Mario series, Sonic's is very loosely defined to almost non-existent) remains to be seen.

well, Ive never quite seen the Secret rings storybook Sonic "series" as cannon... dunno, but it just seems like a little side story till they come up with something in the main storyline. besides, if they could make a game where the story involves them going back in time and basically making the events of the game NEVER have happened, then anythings ossible.

i'm kinda meh with the song. but maybe that's because of the footage shown with it. the game looks worse and worse the more i see.

The song is a remix by DrakeSword and SixtoSounds called Metamorphic Rock (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01712/). All this "trailer" uses are various in-game clips from a German TV show.

Yeah, saw the Video on GameONE (Which is a german TV Show about Games on MTV) too and they said that this Game was nothing special and ''meh''. While I agree with the notion that Knux's lil mixes in the games are FAR from being anything close to gangsta rap, the latter part of your statement leaves a bit more to be desired...

But, my point is, if you're going to try and say something about an entire genre of music, it doesn't behoove you to use blanket terms, or anything along those lines. It just does more to broadcast what you may not know about it.

They've been swearing up and down, since that first appearance of the game in last year's Nintendo Power, that playing as the extra characters is COMPLETELY optional.

Not that I'll EVER argue against the likes of Sky Sanctuary, STH3 final boss, or S&K mid-boss, among others. But don't go dissing my Crush 40! Live And Learn = best Sonic theme, EVER.

Yep. And I still stand by what I say. He was absolute gold back for Sonic 3 & K's OST.
But after that, he was never quite the same. He's alright, but I started to go "meh" after Sonic Heroes. Probably the absolute best thing he's done in recent years, imo, was the remix of Angel Island Act 1 and 2 for Brawl.

Eh, if it came down to it, "What I'm Made Of" was probably the better composition, in my ears.
Still, as I've said before, there's a great part of me that wishes that he would just do more to focus on compositions, and less on allowing for lyrics. He could right up there with Daisuke Ishiwatari (Guilty Gear fame) if he did that.

In the words of a certain Psycho Powered general:
QuoteThis is DELICIOUS!
The game is pretty much being tanked left and right (even by Famitsu: 26/40. By comparison, Secret Rings did a 32/40 and Sonic Next did a 29/40) and a small group labeling themselves as the Sonic Defense Force are out trying to get IGN's reviewer Matt Casamassina fired because he used the word, "retarded" in the review to describe the game.
Now, as someone studying to enter the field, ethically you really shouldn't use the word retarded when describing how nonsensical something is. Yes, we know the joke that IGN isn't really professional, but this is still something that can get the site potentially sued and Casamassina potentially fired over. I'd certainly take him to task about his word choice in the future, for the sake of his own career, but the "SDF" aren't doing it because of the use of the word; it's only because he brutally and rightfully bombed the game and they can't take that this game was destined to fail as hard as it did.
Sometimes I want to shoot the fanbase.

concerning Matt, i don't think people whine too much about use of the word "retarded" that much anymore. they're more concerned with those who use the word "gay" to describe something stupid.

At least Jet doesn't have psychic powers like Silver and is more concerned with being in the Sonic Riders spin-off series <.< Personally, I think it's kind of cool to have a spin-off character like Jet appear in nothing but spin-offs. There's something about him that makes the game just a bit more enjoyable, and I think it has to do with being a bad idea. He was such a bad idea that it became rather enjoyable. Plus, regardless of your stance, he still doesn't have [tornado fang]ing PSYCHIC POWERS (restated and emphasized for point).
I don't think ANYTHING they can do at this point would be as bad as Silver. What's worse is he time travels. Who the [tornado fang] came up with that idea? A time traveling hedgehog with psychic powers? I just hope that they put him on the back burner and forget about him except for spin-off cameos like they did with Black Knight (but if he plays an important role, then this game just got docked down to "should I waste my 5-8 bucks to rent this game, and MAY have fun, or burn it and KNOW I have fun).

I love it~ especially the violin. ^.^
So, is there a music rip out yet? In MP3 format?
I don't think so, it takes about a week or two for MP3s to actually pop up. I still can't find the MP3 for SF4's theme, I'm stuck with downloading videos from YouTube of it.
It depends on what the game system is and what tools you have available. The moment a DS game comes out, you would usually see a music rip on day 1 (See 7th Dragon). Other systems takes a little longer because they would either have to scan the disc, scan the encrypted files inside them and hope to get some results or they have to unlock a Sound Test mode. ^^;

How about this one? If you liked Secret Rings you may like, otherwise stay away.
What doesn't look fun btw? The idea of the sword or what (just asking)?
Secret Rings is different from this one too. The sword doesn't have the same snap to it as the homing attack when taking out enemies. And from the videos I've watched, I hate how much you have to slow down to even attack the enemies. The whole game just reeks of cheap. Even the low-def Unleashed looks better.

I think this is the one Sonic game that truly deserved its panning for a lot of these reasons stated above. I played it and was kinda saddened by a lot of things. For example, while full control over Sonic & no constant moving forward could have been a full plus, the jittery analog movement proved that tilt controls are really an underestimated gem of an idea when it comes to controlling 3D Sonic. Why they didn't allow for nunchuk tilt to allow for slight lean a la Secret Rings is beyond me, but I digress.
The sword. It was a terrible idea from the get-go, but hey, we've all seen bad ideas before in the recent games. The thing that killed it for me personally was the slowdown and response time between the attacks & the wagglan. It just reeked of unpolished.
Then there's bits of the game's presentation. No shuttle loops, Eggman, or visible rings?
Someone's got some 'splanin' to doooo~!I liked the Secret Rings direction and thought that it was really one massive step forward in the 3D Sonic game realm, moreso than even Unleashed (and I love me some Day Stages in Unleashed!) but this game really detached itself too far from what made Secret Rings (and Sonic in general) great and tacked on waaaaay too much bad in the process. So much so that now, I'm fully of the belief that the only ones who have even an inkling of a good/decent Sonic vision are Dimps and the ones responsible for the Day Stages (particularly Rooftop Run) in Sonic Unleashed.
TL;DR: Matt was on fire in that review, I agree completely after playing the game.

Devil May Cry 4 fixed this by letting you switch on the fly. In three, it was done to offer the player different styles of playing instead of jumbling it all into one gigantic confusing muddle. Now you only had to worry about 6 different muddles.

It's in the music rip. Along with other themes and stages from previous games.
Boy, they're really beating the fanservice horse on this one just to hide how weak the overall presentation is.
Shame the legacy stages seem to only use those hover bots and... nothing more. Also the homing attack looks slow and clumsy.
Well thanks to my good Ninja buddy, I got a chance to play this game today. Honestly...I liked it. It was a lot of fun. Short, since I don't have the chance to do everything due to having to give it back to him by tomorrow, but fun nonetheless.
#1. Gameplay. I was right. Some demos just aren't calibrated well, or properly handled well, or something, because the controls were definitely much smoother and not as frustrating as they were when I played it at the Comic Con. If anything, it's making me contemplate trying the Sonic 06 game, as the demo turned me off from that game as well, due to its annoying & frustrating controls. LoL, yeah the Sword is gimmicky, but it talked with a snooty attitude, much like KITT from Knight Rider. Shadow, Knuckles, and Blaze all handled pretty decently too, after a bit of Trial & Error! Ironically enough, I actually preferred the Secret Rings controls.
#2. Enjoyment. I'll admit, I probably didn't enjoy this game as much as Sonic & the Secret Rings, or even Sonic Unleashed. Keeping with the Storybook aspect was fine, and I really had no issues control or story wise. The problem was in the lack of customization, like Secret Rings had. Granted, they keep some of the same abilities that Secret Rings had, but they're separated by Styles, being Knight, Paladin, and Cavalier. I prefer being able to choose each individual Power Up, rather than have it separated this way.
#3. Soundtrack. I'll admit, I do so love the Knight of the Wind song by Crush 40. It might even be my favorite song of theirs up to this point. However, the soundtrack in Secret Rings is much better. I'm not saying that I didn't like this soundtrack, but I still think the other was better and had more creative songs.
So, overall, I had fun playing it. I thought Excalibur Sonic looked bad-ass, I thought the boss fights were fun, and overall I'd probably like to own it eventually, when I have mon-ay. Not my favorite of 3D Sonic games, but in no means would I spit on it and toss it in the sewer. I'm still a fan of the Sonic Storybook Series, the Triple S or S Cubed if you will. If they made another SSS game, I'd probably enjoy it too.
So, in the spirit of confusing reviewing, I give it 3 Shades and 2 Glasses of Mango Lemonade! 8D
Hey, confusing reviewing or not, you gave it Mango Lemonade, so that must mean it's something good XD
What's funny is that I confused my own rating system! It was suppose to be 2 Shades and 3 Glasses of Mango Lemonade. Shades represent how good I think the game actually is, and Mango Lemonade represents my actual enjoyment of the game, whether good or bad. So, it should be:
2 out of 4 Shades & 3 out of 4 Glasses of Mango Lemonade! 8D
lol XD
My point stands anyways =P

I gotta say, PB isn't kidding. The full version ROCKS ALL FREAKING SOCKS. All the more reason why the absence of it in the game's final battle is utterly blasphemous.
Go nuts. (http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_and_the_Black_Knight_Vocal_Trax_"Face_to_Faith") There's only five up, but I assume they'll add the rest and update the tracks when the album comes out next month.
Finally got my hands on the game. I'm actually enjoying it more than Sonic Unleashed so far...

I'm more of a "S3&K philosophy" man myself, but yeah.
Oh yes. I want Sonic games to go back to the good old days of 5% story and 95% awesome 2D gameplay.
Unfortunately, the best we're going to get in that regard are constant "classic game" collections or the games being in various SEGA game collections, and the lesser-liked newer series that take their place like Rivals or Rush. :(
This makes me realize - the first Sonic Advance was pretty damn awesome.
Well, to be honest I didn't the Genesis games even had a story but it was nevertheless present.

This is true. While not "perfect", the first Advance game was basically a good continuation of where Dimps started with "Sonic Pocket Adventure" (Neo Geo Pocket Color). As far as "modern Sonic" offerings go, Advance was probably the closest we'll ever get to anything approaching the 16-bit era's goodness.
...Too bad it, too, wouldn't last. ;O;
To this day, I'm convinced that, if Dimps had been allowed/encouraged to continue more in the vein of Advance the first, they probably would have crafted a CD/3&K-quality Sonic game by now. But nooooo...some where along the line, they (or, rather, probably some one at Sega/Sonic Team themselves) got the "bright idea" that all we cared about was speed in Sonic games. That's why we got Advance 2 being the way it was, which has now only being continued through the Rush games.
They had a decent going with the first game, and it was squandered...just another example of the injustice that has been dealt this series...right up there with the notion that we never got a sequel to Sonic Championship/Fighters from AM2... ;O;

Of course, that is why the games suck now! :o The lack of replayable Super Sonic, it so obvious!
Really? I thought it had more to do with Shad-err...the great "WHO I AM", as well as the attempts to keep shoving more and more people in every game. And generally having these people being somewhat unlikable. I mean, I'm just now warming up to Silver of all people. It's been, what, 2 and a half years?
I guess replayable Super Sonic would help...I actually think Unleashed got it right. You know, daylight-wise.
Oddly enough I actually have a decent respect for Shadow The Hedgehog. I mean, be honest, it is the *ONE* game where any ridiculous gimmick thrown in didn't put the usual gameplay on a screeching halt (therefore nicely contradicting developer interviews that a back-to-basics 3D Sonic is too resource-heavy to develop). The shooting, if it MUST be present, was treated as it should be: a tacked on extra. The game was still at its core a platformer with simplistic controls and cool bosses, and that's what a hedgehog game should be.
The problem is they botched the mission setup. Several enemy-hunts are overly strict and just plain not fun, and that last boss fork, resulting in ten endings, is utterly inexcusable. Unfortunately, that means you'll be damn sick of the game by the time you unlock the Last Story (which is a shame, because the final stage is awesome, Chaos Controlling through otherwise impossible areas).
Yeah, I played STH so much that by the time i'd unlocked Last Story, I was pretty burned out. The Sonic X voicecast didn't make things much better. I still found the game to be decent, but some missions were an absolute terror to play through - which makes getting to the Last Story that much more difficult when you need to go along a certain alignment path to reach a specific ending.
I still think the True Hero final boss fight leads into Last Story the best, though.
Shadow as a character was decent way back in SA2, back where he had some actual character development (which was later tossed away). Shadow the Hedgehog as a game... well... it wasn't too bad the first time through. I had enough of the game far before the Last Story, though. I put the game down and never touched it since, considering the ridiculousness of what was asked.
Also, Knight of the Wind is pretty kickass.

I don't know about that one. Like Zero in X5, Shadow in SA2 dies an utterly pointless and nonsensical death. He's INVULNERABLE, can fly, and can teleport at will, yet he "dies" by falling into the atmosphere? Weak.
If any character development was screwed, it was Gerald's. He's presented as a mad scientist issuing a death sentence to the entire planet first, THEN two other games are spent going over all his good intentions before he went nuts. Both disorienting and pointless.
Gerald's twist worked for me. His granddaughter got shot and he snapped. Makes perfect sense as something to make him spiral into madness.
As for Shadow's death? Never mind the two are each at half power super forms, that Chaos Control had to really drain Shadow. Sonic's pretty much used to being Super in space. Shadow however isn't. Remember, he's the ULTIMATE life form, not the PERFECT one. He still has flaws.

See, but that's SA2, and therein lies the problem with later titles. It's not the story itself, it's the fact that it's told out of chronology. SA2 covers his ultimate fate, so who really give's a rat's ass about him when his good-natured self is revisited in later games?
Y'know, I always took the SA2 ending as Sonic&Co thinking that he died, but he hadn't really. I mean, honestly, it didn't even look like he died, and I never understood how people got that he did. Maybe I'm just seeing something that others don't, or something.
You want weak? Making him lose his memory again. Now THAT's weak.

I always thought that after the final battle, Shadow had fulfilled Maria's last wished and decided to join her, so he chose to not save himself.

Except for the fact that, y'know, he was in his super form. Also, the light as he approached the planet sure as hell made me think of a Chaos Control.
I know, that's why I was hoping he was still alive. However, how do we know he didn't run out of rings while falling? Stupid but entirely possible and logical.
Heroes had a boneheaded explaination for how he survived, but i haven't played the game or cared about it since it came out. his death was lame, but his revival was lamer.

It was supposed to, y'know, make him a bit more sympathetic a character, however contrived the actual telling of those events ended up being.

It was supposed to be "open-ended". If Shadow was meant to stay dead, he could have died in that fashion. Or, as history would tell it, it left them enough so that they could bring him back.
I was really hoping that they would have let stay dead. His story was self-contained in SA2, open and shut. I thought that was good enough...

Why doesn't Shadow just stay dead then? It would have been a lot more fantastic if he did instead of being revived every game.

Zero should have stayed dead back in X1 or at X5/X6 like he was supposed to but he revived yet again and he he even had his own series.

Easy reason? Because Sega saw the fanboy-appealing potential that Shadow had, and wanted to utilize him some more.
Never mind the fact that friggin METAL SONIC was an already established character, who not only served Shadow's basic purpose years before hand, and could have easily been written to do more in that vein.
To me, Shadow was a fairly redundant character from the outset. Even the whole "Ultimate Lifeform" angle was something that Metal Sonic was already doing years before hand.
QuoteZero should have stayed dead back in X1 or at X5/X6 like he was supposed to but he revived yet again and he he even had his own series.
Zero is different, in the notion that, by all sake and reason, he was closer to the "original concept" that Inafune wanted for a "Rockman X". But Capcom wasn't going to play ball by his rules. So, as a consolation prize, he shoe-horned Zero in there any way, and was willing to just play the waiting game.
Metal Sonic would have been an awesome cameo in Sonic & The Black Knight. Hell, they could've made him Deathcalibur Metal to counter Excalibur Sonic. I definitely would've had the will to Fight the Knight. The Will To Fight the Knight. THE WILL TO FIGHT! THE! KNIGHT! 8)

Zero was a generic NPC in X1, the only reason anybody cared whether he lived or died was because he had a kickass theme music and caused collateral damage. Both of these returned in X2, so there's nothing wrong there.
In X5 Zero "died" for a completely nonsensical reason. A boss explosion, of which he has survived dozens, regardless of how his proximity compares to X's. Furthermore, X was every bit as "dead" at the end of X5 as Zero was, Light merely took advantage of Zero Space to fix him up. If he did that, then by what possible stretch of logic WOULDN'T "Zero's father" do the same? X5, as it is, would have been the worst possible way to end the series. Fans were just happy to see X and Zero duke it out, and the foreboding of Wily's possible involvement. But the reality is that X5's story was told incredibly badly.
the only thing its ending would have going for it, was an explanation for X having the Z saber. but in fact, Zero's condition in X5 completely contradicts his state in Z1. artistic difference aside. the later games give his Z1 evival much more sense, and there are MANY times he has given X his saber. every time he loses and cant go on, as a matter of fact.
Well, that's actually twice.
Nevertheless, good points. And the contradictory body conditions are something I've been over so many times that I just don't bother anymore, but they're still just as true.
