Honestly, Splatoon as a whole is very much experimental thing from Nintendo.
A game with a focus on online Multiplayer and leveling?
Amiibo usage that's probably the most expansive outside of maybe Smash and Codename Steam? (As in, you get costumes, new weapons and new arcade games.)
A game where free updates start coming out after release? (We just got the NZap 85, which is based off the old Grey NES Zapper and a new map this past weekend and we're supposedly getting Ika Musume collab in August though that might just be in Japan because the US hates anime crossover stuff.)
Yeah, it sucks that the amiibos are hard-ish to find (Though from what I hear the amiibos are actually rather common, its just the three-pack that has the squid that's tough and that could've been alleviated by them just releasing the [tornado fang]ing squid individually like they did in Japan.) but then again these aren't Ness or Villager. You won't be completely hard pressed to find them eventually and chances are they're like Sheik or Toon Link where they were hard to find at first but will become more common later on.
