2 things I really don't understand about Final Fantasy and by extension Bravely Deafult in general. They don't have White Mages learn lesser damage Light attacks before learning Holy and they don't allow Magic Knights learn the damaging elements of White Mages and Time Mages (ie Aero and Quake) except for Holy which is one of the last spells you get.
I'm a little annoyed by this since I'm facing a Dark Dragon that absorbs Darkness so my Arcanist Ringabel is mostly not too effective since he can only use his Black Magic which isn't Super Effective and the only thing that is Super Effective on it is one of Edea's spears, which does a good chunk of damage thanks to Judgement, and Tiz's Templar abilities which takes a ton of his MP since he pretty much has the lowest and doesn't really do much damage even with Pirate debuffing shenanigans. Worst still is the fact that the Dragon's Breath inflicts Dread, which prevents you from guarding or using extra moves you gained from Guarding and I only have 2 Courage Rings so every single time I get hit with the Breath attack Ringabel gets hit with Dread so I have to cure that and not get an extra attack since he's not guarding. I mean yeah I can apply Fairy Ward to not get Dread on him but the fights with the Dragons are so MP costly that I might as well just have Ringabel and Tiz heal their MP with Ethers anyway.
The only saving grace to this situation is the fact that when I fight these Dragons I don't take any damage due to Anges using Stillness, which negates damage and is freaking necessary since otherwise that Breath Attack will kill Ringabel and Edea, from both sides for 2 turns and when I do attack the Dragons use their Debuff move to make me weak to the element of their breath so I come out of the fight with extra JP to level up my Jobs thanks to taking no damage but god damn does it take for ever to kill the thing.
