IDK, I always thought the original was harder for some reasons, but this was probably because I've replayed Super C a lot, and never had the original at that time.
The Flamethrower/Flame gun was a lousy weapon. Super C buffed it to being extremely useful (in late stages like the falling roof in area
. Took me a bunch of playthroughs to discover I could charge my shot. After that, I rarely used the Spread gun, because it became less mandatory to me in Super C.
But I see you say the arcade was harder, maybe I need to have a look into that myself.
