As far as the series is concerned.  I really prefer dash jumping, mostly because I find fun into it, especially in terms of doing fun long jumps, seeing that shadow effect in some of the games (Zero series and X4-X6 coming in...X8 does have a bit of it, but dash mechanics in that are a tad different compared to the X games before it).  So...while Air Dashing is also fun, I find more fun into it via a fighter (Guilty Gear, being a good example of air dashing), Dash jumps, yeah X and Zero and eventually i'll play the ZX games, I like more.

How about both? Unless you see that as being spoiled by the ZX-series.

Eh, it seems like it makes things too easy.

Something about Air Dash, whatever happened to dashing straight up? In X3, you can get the upgrade, and dash straight up, and in X4, with the upgrade, you can air dash, and hover. It seems like it would have made it a bit less annoying to get the buster upgrade in Storm Owl's stage. Was it just removed for gameplay?

Blade Armor had a pretty cool stop mid-air and dash in any direction thing.

I still prefer Dash Jump, it gives me a sense of speed.

While it was cool, I never really found it all that useful, except for select areas.

Oh, another thing, in X6, when Alia says the Falcon Armor wasn't repaired or whatever, why wasn't it ever repaired during the events of the game after the intro stage?

The point of dashing is to go fast.
Dash jump lets me move faster than air dashing.

Dash jump wins.

Probably as an incentive to use the new armors the game offers. If you need a plot explanation, you can presume the armor was eventually damaged beyond repair or there simply wasn't time for Alia to work on it, since she had her hands full investigating the Nightmare phenomena (or both).

Anyway, both dash jump and air dash have different uses, and whichever is more useful depends on the situation. Air dash tends to be more practical when you need to overcome obstacles the dash jump can't cover, such as reaching high ledges and dodging certain attacks. However, if I had to choose one over the other, I think I'd vote for the dash jump; it offers more mobility.

Doesn't anybody find it odd that Bass can dash, while X couldn't until the second game? I'm gonna assume it's just for gameplay.

Oddly enough my decision varies with the game.  I tend to go for dash-jumps on X2-X6, but air-dashing in Xtreme2 and X8.  And even though there is no need to choose, I'd probably give air-dashing the upper hand in the ZX games, too.

So the game count is 5-4 for dash-jumping.  But you know what?  I'm going to vote air-dashing anyway, just to spite Inticreates for removing it from Zero. :P

Well, unlike most armor abilities, dashing was an optional component of X's original specs (see X1 intro).  Apparantly Light just didn't bother to add it.

*cringe*

Wow, now that's a hard choice.

I like the Dash Jump, I really do. Whether it's on the ground or off of walls, it's a very empowering move.
Then there's the Air Dash, which is pretty easy to do, and in X5 and X6 proved quite useful. Also in ZX/A as well.

I guess I'm just going to have to say Air Dash. It'll save your tail.

I'd have to say Dash-Jump.  I enjoy doing armorlesss runs, and you usually can't air dash during those (sans X7-8).  It certainly makes boss-fights more interesting as well.

dash jump for me. i dash jump all the time, whereas air dashes are situational. in X4 onwards, you lose all your momentum after an air dash, both horizontal and vertical. in X2 and 3, you keep the momentum. and in the latter's case, you can do it twice. X3's up air dash sucked balls, though. the Blade Armor fixed that.

Nova Strike.

...When Larry the reploid accountant goes maverick of his own accord, he's certainly formidable during tax season, but he isn't going to provide X the challenge needed to make him grow as a warrior and reach his potential.

Dash Jump by far for me. Air Dash can actually get in the way sometimes for me, especially nowadays considering how used I am to having no armour on.

I'd say the "original" responses to this thread are too obvious (love Sub Tank's, even if it's wrong series), but since nobody said it yet:

Falcon + Speedster, FTW

partly because it's impossible.

Falcon + Speedster, FTW

this is true.

I also like Air Dash + Speed Burner.

this would be true if it was the other way around, preceeded by a dash jump.
