My strategy of trading Psychic type for Psychic type on GTS is working pretty well. I have more Abras and Drowzees and I can catch more Munnas and breed Natu. What Psychic Pokemon should I hunt down, next?

...and my new Natu is Japanese.

I've seen that it was to indicate a checksum performed by the game software to determine if the Pokemon was legitimately created in a Pokemon game, rather than hacked in by a Pokecreator.

I'll pull the Natu out of the daycare and get it rated, along with check some other stats. In the meantime, I need to dump its egg in the Box and let Runaway have some fun with his new Japanese mate.

Japanese Natu has superior potential overall, and I've gotten all three abilities from its babies: Magic Bounce, Synchronize, and Early Bird.

Less checksum, moreso a marker for pokemon caught/bred in Kalos. One of the reasons behind the ver1.1 update for PokeBank was that people had found a way to give the pentagon to Transporter'd pokemon, as it was just a hex value stored in the pokemon.

The pentagon has other effects, namely the metagame for the Wifi Cups, where you can only use pentagon pokemon. Keeps the pesky OP imported pokemon at bay, while creating a new meta.

Yeah, the blue pentagon isn't a marker of unhacked, it's just saying it's native to Kalos. Cause, you know, Kalos is shaped a bit like a pentagon.
