Ok this has been bugging me for awhile, and it doesn't seem like either no one knows it, or wants to talk about it.  Does anyone else think that the 'tran' in Heatran might actually mean "transvestite" or "transsexual"? Think about it, Heatran can be male OR female at random, and because it's a loose translation of it's japanese name, it could hold true there too.

Unless I've been lied to, Transvestite means cross-dresser, and transsexual is the changing of gender.

it started out as a small thought, and then grew, and now it's annoying me. I'm just asking if anyone else can see the connection, or if it's just me.

Does it have to be Heat + Tran? Why not simply Heat + Ran? I mean, I'm sure he produces lots of heat, and he has legs, so that means he can run. It's likely to be something as stupid as with the legendary birds' names =/

look at the unown, it's technically pronounced "Un-own", but it's been said "Un-(k)nown" countless times before.

Zapdos=Shoes in spanish (I know Spanish >=)). I find it a little silly, it's Pokemon, and some of the names were probably meant to be a little funny.

i don't think the -ran in Heatran is meant to stand for anything in particular. it's just something added onto the end of Heat to make a name.

i took three years of Spanish in high school, and i can confirm this. Zapdos = Zap (a verb relating to electricity) + dos (Spanish for 2).

Unown is homophonic to Unknown. for all intents and purposes, the Pokemon should just be called Unknown. America just likes to spice things up.
