I've come out of lurking because I've been wondering something lately. A few years ago I discovered Dungeons & Dragons. It kinda changed my life. Before long, I was DMing my own games, creating my own monsters, classes, races, and whatever. I'm wondering if this is a symptom of getting older, but I enjoy having a lot of creative control in my games. I find it a bit frustrating when I can't have the same control over RPG video games.

So, getting to the topic: does anyone else play another tabletop games? If so, what games do you enjoy playing? I prefer Pathfinder.

The closest thing to a tabletop game that I've played is Crimson Shroud.

A fantastic 3DS game, but it seems to be a streamlined RPG and only partially tabletop.

So I never experienced the real stuff.

I play DnD from time to time and played the We Be Goblins Pathfinder module.  Played the beta version of Fantasy Flight's Star Wars game, but was having trouble adjusting to the dice pool system.  I've played Wushu and had a campaign on here for a bit, and was planning to make a Wushu Mystery Dungeon game, but got busy with other stuff.

Mostly, in terms of tabletop games, I just sculpt miniatures for them.

I've just started DMing the Rise of the Runelords campaign with my group. This is actually the first time I'm DMing something premade. I've always done original games up until now. It's strangely refreshing, but there is a lot of reading--so it isn't like I still don't have to prepare. My players seem to be enjoying something different too, so it works out. :)

I've always wanted to sit and play something like D&D (or Munchkin  [eyebrow] ), but I've never known anyone in my area with similar interests.

My Twitch channel. Random streams during the week.
Currently streaming: Transformers: Devastation

That's a classic--but I've never played it myself. I've tried reading the Player's Handbook and I couldn't wrap my head around the rules.

I think you'd be surprised. I didn't think there was anyone interested in D&D in my town either, but I was wrong. D&D is more popular than you realize.

I've only recently found a few groups looking for players.  I already touted character profiles and miniatures as perks, buuuuuuuut they won't be free. [eyebrow]

We should be starting this Monday, this week was canceled due to midterms and all.  I still haven't really thought about what kind of goal I have.

To have fun.  That's my goal.  I have a few characters to play with and my goal is to just have fun.

If you have a character who can make golems, your goal could be to make golems out of weird things.  Ringman did that with a door golem.

I don't think we have a character that can make golems.

I will see if that is possible, maybe the Dwarf Lore Master would be interested.

It's unfortunately true that golems can be made out of basically anything--ANYTHING! Take a second for that to sink in. Before you asks if there's stats for a certain golem, let me save you some time: yes. If you thought of it, it exists somewhere. You're welcome once again, internet.

WHY?!

My DM is [tornado fang]ing evil, last we left off he sent a Cerberus on our [tornado fang]ing ass because our new Party Member is a Cat Prince or something, and the thing ate all the cats.  I might consider dropping if things get more bullshit, this is not newbie friendly at all, and a lot of us are newbies.

Also people have a problem with talking over others and it annoys me to no end.

Here's what happened in my last game: The players had to cross a trapped rope bridge. The trap only required a DC 14 reflex save to avoid, since it only trapped one side of the bridge. The MONK failed this save because he rolled terribly. So he fell 80 feet into the sea with a strong undertow. According to the module, players must succeed on a DC 20 swim check to avoid being pulled into the current AFTER taking 5d6 lethal and 1d4 sub-dual damage. He failed his swim check and got pulled into the underwater current. Then he started taking 1d6 points of lethal damage per round from jagged rocks. He managed to make it out after a few rounds, but he was nearly dead. I was merciful and fudged it to let him live (he actually rolled a 19).

After being healed and brought back to the bridge with ropes and team work, the party tried to cross the bridge that was left. The fighter made it across. The bard got half-way across and then rolled badly on her second roll to safely climb and balance across. She fell, but succeeded on a reflex save to catch herself by one hand; however, she then failed her climb check and fell anyway. She, unfortunately, didn't roll close to well enough. So that was my first player death in a while.

We also had a death, but he turned into a Ghost because Shadow Realm and stuff.  The other characters don't know this yet.

There are some DMs who never actually read the part of the DMG that literally tells you: your goal is not to kill players, it's to make sure the players are having fun. Because here's the thing about killing players: if the players all die, the game's over. That ruins the fun for everyone, including the DM. The point of modules and the greater campaign is to reach the end. That's true for both the players and the DM.

Unless you're dealing with a character grinder module or an apocalypse campaign, but those are rare exceptions to the rule. If you get a reputation for being a killer DM, no one is going to want to play your games. Maybe some DMs need to eventually learn that lesson the hard way.

Oh no it wasn't the DM who killed him it was the evil Dwarf Cleric who killed him after the Door Mimic left him at 1 HP.  But I think he had something special so he can turn into a Ghost upon death.

But yeah I'm unfortunately not really having fun because again he's not making things newbie friendly.
