I think I was more upset about how untrue to form to the franchise DNF was more than anything like the awful gameplay. But, the Dr Proton dlc was a bit of a laugh.

A modern "classic fps" can definitely be done though. Serious Sam 3 did well enough.

For true classic style, one would be better off with the Rise of the Triad remake. I think the only change they fully kept was an actual jump button and quick melee. There was reloading at one time but now it's just an animation to fool around with.
