Right, and those games were more fanservice to the classic crowd, like me, than anyone else. The newer generation is not interested. This might be the best chance to get them interested.
Yep.
The best thing that could happen is that this serves as a repeat of what EXE/BN did for the brand back in the early 2000s: new franchise, new take on a classic character revamped for a modern day audience, which goes on to sell well and makes the brand healthier, as a whole. Whether that means revamping a Rockman we already know (Classic or X), or a brand new series, that's up to Capcom and co. But to say the least, it's the most exciting thing we've had to look forward to regarding the brand and I'm looking forward to it. Besides, remember how we were still getting X and Zero games, even as EXE was the main flagship during that period? If I could at least get a periodic Classic series release every so often in between releases of the new series, that'd be nice.
In any case, I know someone over at Archie Comics must be whooping and jumping for joy over this news. They're looking to be FINALLY getting some help from Capcom when it comes to trying to sell a comic based on one of their IPs!
