Because I was stupid and didn't realize you couldn't change your display name without requesting it. In all fairness, the help section says that you can, sort of, and I only looked there and the rules for information about accounts before registering (see the beginning of the previous sentence).

I think they said it was alright so long as it wasn't like a rename everyday.

Though I would honestly like to see people who rename themselves put their old name in their Signature still, less confusion and all. (Though with "FOTM", its rather easy to tell its him.)
