yay this thread. forgot about it oh man
So yeah uh I've been playing a lot of Ys lately and once again holy [parasitic bomb] was I missing out.
Ok here goes.
For anyone that knows composer names, Yuzo Koshiro did a lot of I & II's soundtrack along with Mieko Ishikawa and Hideya Nagata. The original games were for PC-88, although the PCE/TGFX-CD versions were arranged by Ryo Yonemitsu.

PCE version (I HOPE YOU LIKE GUITARS)
Delicious violin-filled version from PSP remakeAnd of course, II's intro theme.

The PSP version is also pretty nice.I could post some stuff from Ys 1.. but I just like II so much more that I can't remember much of anything from it.

Ys III: Wanderers from Ys had its soundtrack composed mainly by Yuzo Koshiro and Mieko Ishikawa as well, though the latter did the main gist this time. Once again Ryo Yonemitsu does the masterful PCE arranges. The remake,
Oath in Felghana had its re-arranged soundtrack done by Yukihiro Jindo. Some are pretty much upped straight from the old versions with more modern instruments. Others mix it up a bit while still carrying a similar feel. I'm usually 50/50 on which versions I prefer, but it's still a solid job nonetheless. My overall preferred version shall get the embed with the other below. Also I'm only comparing with the PCE version because that's the only one I've given any real extensive listen to.

PCEAlso a note about this one. It's a remix of the
main character's theme which wasn't used much in I & II, if at all IIRC.

PCE
Oath'sAaand the final boss theme. Just, goddamn. Love this one so much. Overall I have to go with PCE. It's more intense. Also, those rattling drums of sort. Those aren't in Oath's version and they just really add a slight punch to the tune. Oath's is pretty damn good for what it is as well, which I'd say is a more grand arrangement.

Oath's

Ys IV was outsourced to 2 companies. The result was
Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys by for PCE and
Ys IV: Mask of the Sun for Super Famicom. They had similarities but overall branched in different directions for story and gameplay. Neither is no longer considered canon with the release of Falcom's own
Ys: Foliage Ocean in Celceta for PlayStation Vita last month. Regardless, most consider
Dawn of Ys to be pretty damn good, including its soundtrack composed by Falcom's Sound Team and as always arranged by Ryo Yonemitsu.
Mask of the Sun shared most if not pretty much all of its soundtrack with
Dawn, but they can't really compare in quality. So without further ado.
(I actually haven't played
Dawn of Ys so these are just the ones I've given more than 1 listen to amidst skimming ok)

Theme of Adol 1993.
Theme of Adol 1993. This song alone makes me want to play this game so bad asdfasdfasdf.
(~No one cares about Ys V and I haven't played VI yet~)
Since it's a prequel to I & II, it borrows a lot of songs from them, but its original themes are also quite something at times.

Aaand the other two to come to mind to are actually the official "Super Arrange" versions but whatever.

and by this point I'm getting too lazy to give thought about Ys Seven which I'm still trudging through.
But here have its opening theme.alright I think that's it. I don't really expect much of anyone to listen through those but I am just all ecstatic about this series right now.
