I pretty much did with what I honestly felt about the situation.

So anyway the guy who did that April Fools Day Joke A Link to the Past LP just finished Turtle Rock.  Now he has to go through Dungeon 2 and beat the bosses of Dungeon 3 and 4.  And he still hasn't fought Aganim even once yet.

I've been to anime conventions, a paranormal convention, horror conventions, and a Star Wars convention.  All those conventions with all their cosplayers...

They have nothing on cosplayers at the Faerie Festival.  Some really original creations going on there...

The mud people were fully-clothed and were roughly our ages.  One was in costume while another was dressed casually.  They didn't really look any weirder than anyone else.

Except that they were covered in mud.

Well... originality isn't really the name of the game at Anime conventions when it comes to cosplay. Nobody wants to see a bunch of OCs at an anime convention. They want to see familiar characters, whether good or bad.

I'm honestly interested in what you got to say about this.

It's pretty much what I've been saying since it happened. But here, so you don't have to look on the video.

Quote
Sigh, I'm probably going to regret this...

Clement is 100% right about two things: that it's a matter of perspective and that MegaMan is now a niche market. Keeping both of those things in mind, that's also the problem with what Capcom did with Legends 3.

(At this point I'd like to point out that I honestly do not care that MML3 or MMU was cancelled, and this is just to offer my personal accounts of what happened. I have no problem with Capcom. At all.)

I was there at the NYCC MegaMan Legends 3 announcement. I sat in the room, watched everything they had to offer, and was pretty blown away with the announcement and especially all the coming fan feedback towards helping make the game. What blew me away was not the fact that MM fans were finally getting a new Legends entry, but more that Capcom was making it in the first place. My immediate reaction to that panel was "Wow. That's ummm, that's really nice of Capcom. They really do respect & like their fans!"

The reason I said this is because, even back then it should have been obvious that the Legends series was never that profitable, even among MegaMan fans. It was Capcom's cult favorite, nowhere near as profitable as the Classic, X, or their BN series. Capcom is nice to their fans, but Capcom is still a business that's all about making money. Prior to this announcement, at PAX East I talked to Seth Killian about a new Power Stone entry and he was very nice & upfront with me about why the odds of seeing one are very low.

S-Kill - "Sure, they could make a Power Stone 3 to please fans and people like me. OR, they could put that money and make another Street Fighter or Devil May Cry and make a lot more money. They'll go with the sure bet rather than the cult gamble!" (I love that S-Kill loved Power Stone)

That's the bottom line. Capcom is a business, and as a business, they royally screwed the pooch on this one. The problem wasn't the cancellation. The problem was the announcement of bringing it back and ESPECIALLY the part about creating a community to help build the game WITH Capcom, via Servbot numbers, polls, voting, and everything that went into creating the utter shitstorm that followed.

The game was never going to be profitable from the get go. It was for the niche fans, a kind of "Thank you for supporting us all these years, we appreciate your patience so here's something just for you" kind of game. You cannot, repeat, cannot get a cult fanbases hopes up, get them involved, and then tell them it's not happening in the most [acid burst] poor way possible, and then offer little to no compensation for your screw up. This isn't a matter of entitlement, but rather simple business & customer service practices. When a business you shop at, buy from, or use a lot screws you over, whether intentionally or unintentionally, they usually offer you something in return. Capcom never did that, at least not immediately.

But here's the real kicker. They know they don't have to, because ultimately gamers are addicts, as CLEARLY shown by the constant entitlement you see from MM fans and...well pretty much most gamers in general. That's why when someone asked me if I was going to boycott Capcom after MML3, I said "Absolutely not, because if they make another 8-Bit MM11 download game, I'm going to buy it without hesitation." because the Classic series is my favorite, and they've done alright by me. As Clement said, MegaMan is in Smash Bros. I've wanted that since Melee. I'm happy. That's me though.

Anyway, what I stated about is why I think SOME MegaMan fans are still pissed. (Not all, but some, because some are more mature & sane than the whiniest of MM fans) Not just because of the cancellation, but rather everything that happened with Legends 3 from the announcement to the cancellation. If I were a huge Legends 3 fan, I'd probably still be upset. It would be if Kojima finally stopped accepting Metal Gear Solid Konami money, announced a new Zone of the Enders 3 and asked me to vote on Orbital Frame designs, only for him to crush my hopes and dreams utterly. I'd be pissed.

tl;dr MegaMan, except for classic series nostalgia DLs and items, is not profitable anymore, and it may never be again. It's now a niche market, plain and simple. No amount of whining or complaining is going to make it come back.

It was outside on a farm, so it was already messy.  There are small streams that run through the fairgrounds and people used them to get muddy.  The paths were really muddy due to all the rain we had, so everyone got muddy to some extent, particularly if you walked around the lower ends of the grounds where the streams are.

Seriously it was really bad yesterday at school thanks to the extreme changes of temperature from inside and outside and inside again I got really messed up. Then when I came home after the eye exam I had this terrible migraine and I tossed my lunch because of it, luckily I didn't get hungry again but still! :|

I read your post, PB.  You make a lot of good points, some of which I'll take into consideration with the death of the EU.

I mean, I'm still upset.  I'm a huge EU fan, so rightfully I'll be upset.  But, Disney didn't decanonize it just to be jerks.  They needed to unload years and years of baggage so that the sequels will be more accessible.

And I'm still looking forward to the sequels, and even more so with the demise of the EU, as I won't be fretting over the massive amount of retcons needed afterward.  This frees my mind and will let me enjoy the movies!   I can't wait!

And likewise for the Rebels series, though I wasn't worried about that at all.  What I worry about for that is finding a way to watch it!  Hopefully it comes on Netflix or something.

I've had time to process the demise of the EU, and while I don't like it, I do understand why it happened.  It won't stop my fanfics, though. :P

You have a right to be upset. Like with Spidey, the New 52, and Legends 3, Disney handled the situation very poorly & confusingly. That's never good.

Anywho, it's time for bed.  My legs are sore (steep hills with toe shoes don't mix well, same with sharp rocks) and I'm tired.  Time to protect the henna tattoo with a sock (to keep the paste from flaking all in my bed) and sleep.

Feel lucky it is not snowing. It snowed AGAIN yesterday up here in Alberta.

You have a right to be upset. Like with Spidey, the New 52, and Legends 3, Disney handled the situation very poorly & confusingly. That's never good.

The case with Spider-Man and the New 52 is particularly bad in my mind. From what I remember from scattered interviews, Joe Quesada was dismissive and downright patronizing to fans who either protested the dissolution of Peter's marriage with MJ or the fact Spidey made a deal with the devil. I believe his argument was essentially, "If you don't like this or what we're doing with Spider-Man, you're not a fan of the character." As such, I now believe that Ben Reilly (and not Peter Parker) is the one, true Spider-Man and maybe the Clone Saga did something right when they made that declaration nearly twenty years ago.

Oh believe me, I think the Clone Saga is horrible but at least it took more rational chances when they let Aunt May shuffle off the mortal coil with dignity, and killed Otto Octavius. At least the Clone Saga seemed to make the Spidey mythos move forward whereas One More Day/Brand New Day was a huge step backwards.

As for the New 52, the powers that be at DC Entertainment give me the impression that they had no idea what they were doing. They wanted to bring in new readers but basically ignored every demographic aside from teenage boys. As Shortpacked illustrated, Starfire from the Teen Titans was popular with girls because she was a sweet and passionate outsider who had a black belt is ass-kicking, but in Red Hood and the Outlaws, Scott Lobdell turned her into a vapid sex toy. Way to alienate those potential readers.

Granted, DC seems to be listening more because Wally West returned recently (though not in the way fans wanted.) They seem to be utterly clueless and expect their fans to be grateful for destroying much of what they liked about the pre-Flashpoint DCU and replacing it with something that is almost unrecognizable. I have pretty much given up on the old DCU, but I would settle for the wholesale destruction of the New 52 universe.

If it snows in Southern California it would pretty much be the apocalypse and anarchy would fill the streets as we would get record car crashes since we're not prepared for that situation.
