Oh god I just had a stupid idea for the Avengers RP, gender bending Superman, Lois Lane, and maybe Lex Luthor.  I can even get away with Luthor since Alex has so many different names unisex or otherwise.

Obviously just rename them to Clara Kent, Louis Lane and Alexis Luthor.

Easy peasy.

Though not very original.

Yeah that's what I was planning, except I used the Luis spelling.  Of course those would be the only ones I really gender bend since, thanks to an old Comic Jam, Vixy will always be Wonder Woman to me no matter what.

Unless you count me switching the powers of Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze.

Well, my joking aside that I felt apt for a diversity thread didn't go over well with one of the users who apparently can't take a joke.

I'm not really following.

It's on TFN.  There's a diversity thread, and people were talking about how non-white or non-male characters should be written or how they should talk, etc.  I said the following, because I felt it apt.

Quote"It's got boobs!  How does it talk?"

Like people.

Another user thought I was trolling or otherwise trying to be offensive.

Sakura Leic

I see, if you don't mind me asking what do you mean by apt, like appropriate or something?

Quickman

Yes.  Appropriate.

I took the time to explain the comment, saying that there's no real need to have characters of a different race or gender talk in a way that identifies them as that race/gender when they should simply talk like people.

As in the word "apt". From the Latin, "aptus".

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/apt

Suitable; appropriate; fit or fitted; suited.
Tonight there's a full moon, which is apt, since the election night will bring out the lunatics.
(of persons or things) Having a habitual tendency; habitually liable or likely; disposed towards.
Ready; especially fitted or qualified (to do something); quick to learn; prompt; expert; as, a pupil apt to learn; an apt scholar.

Edit: Really? Appropriate? Approp.

Yeah I agree, I mean the only one who I can argue is Harley Quinn since as we talked about before Gotham is indeed in New Jersey.

Dialect, working vocabulary, slang, vocal tics and nuances, and other mannerisms are one thing.  People speak differently because people think differently.  But, they still talk like people.  Generally, we don't accuse people of not talking speaking a certain way.  We generally don't say to someone "you don't talk like a girl!" or whatever.

Just because someone is of a different gender or race doesn't mean that they should speak differently, the aforementioned nuances aside.

Yeah I agree, I mean that line of thinking is kind of weird.

Funny how many people think that when you're white, you automatically have an advanced vocabulary and speak in a sophisticated manner.

Every race has their share of educated individuals as well as their ignorant individuals. Saying that there is a "difference" is idiotic.

xnamkcor

Well, if everyone on the internet is a white male, I think white people are some of the most retarded people ever.

This one's gone way faster than the old one.

I am a proud independent black woman, and I will not stand for such insults!

If anyone's interested, here's the diversity thread in question, beginning with the post that started the current line of discussion.

So ummm... YGO Zexal is over. I've just seen the last episode and umm...

Mabel slept with me again.  I had the heat off because it was warm yesterday, so it got chilly in here.  I since turned it back on, but I'm warming it up in increments of two degrees so as not to have a huge gas bill later.

Just as I get BioShock Infinite, I fix my desktop.
...
Just as spring break ends.

Fffffuck.

Quickman

Oh good, the heat went up to the temperature I wanted it without having me set it.  Now to maintain that steady 69 degrees...
