Got the game bright and early, and made sure to EV-grind my Froakie right away. Super Training is available right off the bat, but the training regiments do need to be unlocked by clearing the first ones available and working your way up, so if you want to EV-train your starter, you'll first want to catch another 'man to use as your guinnea pig. Once everything is unlocked, you can get 12 EVs for each round. Still tedious, but it kicks the crap out of the old way, and getting it done in the beginning means you can actually use Pokemon you used in the story competitively when you're done.
I'm wondering how easy it will be to find the EV-reducing berries, though. Not having full knowledge of every 'man's moves and abilities makes EV training this early kind of a shot in the dark...
Oh, and your Pokemon now gain experience for a successful capture. Nifty.
