I've never played any of the original Devil May Cry games, but they do interest me. Also there's a DMC HD Collection for the PS3 that has all 4 games on it, right? Maybe I should get that to try out the series?
Though I haven't played any of the Devil May Cry games, but hearing a lot about its gameplay and some of Dante's personality and looking at this reboot alternate universe of the game even I can tell this is a bad game.
Well gameplay, though I haven't seen it, from what I've heard sounds good as its own but using a big time name like DMC and counting it part of the franchise... not the most wisest of decisions.
If I want to make a game, but want to make it better I like to listen to fans or other gamers to get some ideas to improve... even more own original game to make it fun and enjoyable for everyone.
I will not be buying this DmC game, but I rather have the original DMC since that grabs me more than this. I having seen how Dante acts, but the way you describe his personality, however vague, I'm starting to like his character and like to see the original Dante more than this self-insert.
I mean self-inserts are fine in fanfiction when fans of a series want to be the character themselves or be in the same party as the cast, or self-inserts in game where the player creates their own characters to appear in the story (White Knight Chronicles is a good example) and not going TOO over the top (they suppose to be fun and not to be taken very seriously) but when you do a self-insert of this kind to a video game AND being the main character that you want to be... very bad decision, no words can describe this kind of insult to the fans.
The game will still sell... but not to Capcom's expectations and I hope they realize that. Capcom haven't been making grand business decisions as of late.
