Hot on the heels of the unceremonious cancellation of the Megaman Legends 3 Project for the Nintendo 3DS, the internet is all abuzz with numerous instances of reports from Comic Con goers today stating that Megaman for all intents and purposes is a taboo subject around the Capcom booth. What initially started as a dubious 4chan post/reply has seemingly been corroborated by members of Capcom Unity forums with some people coming around and stating that they or people close to the main event have been asked to leave the area. In one such case, a person was asked by security to leave for donning a MM9 T-Shirt, in another situation a person was asked to leave over simple discussion of Tron's inclusion in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 as trailers blared around the area, and in the one that started everything, a Tron cosplayer was asked to straight up not come anywhere around the booth.

This thread is meant for further discussion/fact checking on the matter. I had initially brushed everything off as internet nerd rage going haywire, but with many people stepping up to give this further credence, it would be stupid not to keep the fandom, and fans of gaming in general up to date on what is happening.

So..it really is true. Capcom knows they screwed up and now they are scared.

Jericho

Seriously, this thing reeks of stupid from every angle, and Capcom's overly antagonistic method of defending their interests/pushing others is not the best way to go about things if they intend to retain these good public relations with folks.

It's reprehensible at the very least.

Protoman Blues

To be honest, I kinda expected this. It's sad that they have to do this at their Comic Con booth, because these people have nothing to do with the Legends 3 decision.

Acid

Oh well even if this is true, and Capcom is overreacting, I can kinda understand it. I wouldn't want to get my show ruined by (potentially) angry fans.

Though I can understand the enraged fans too.

What I ought to do? Sit here and remain silent obviously.

that too

Jericho

Oh yeah, definitely Acid. This is absolute damage control before anything else, but it still doesn't bode well on Capcom as a company that has been pushing so hard for consumer level feedback and the like.

As a company promoting new products/software/games and whatever, it would be a pain to have fans shout and rage in the middle of their conference. Which i know for a fact would happen.

But kicking out people JUST for cosplaying as a MM character or wearing a MM related item is incomprehensibly ignorant. As much as Capcom deserves being yelled at though, they're still a company, thus at a higher authority than the "normal" people there. They get enough rants over the web anyway.

The reasonable thing to do would be to escort people out if they get out of hand, but not kick them out just for showing support for something they idolize.

Jericho

And now, we have the first few reports from Capcom's twitter stating that this all isn't true. Clusterfuck isn't a strong enough word to describe what's happening here. -u-'

You know, if I were Capcom in this instance, even if it were true I'd still have the representatives in charge of the Twitter page cry false. Just like how they're saying that the L3 cancellation isn't related in any way, shape, or form to Inafune's departure.

On the bright side, we know who the bad guys are now!

...When Larry the reploid accountant goes maverick of his own accord, he's certainly formidable during tax season, but he isn't going to provide X the challenge needed to make him grow as a warrior and reach his potential.

Pyro

Well, the eggheads at Capcom brought it on themselves because they could not wait to announce the cancellation on Monday. Did they really think there wouldn't be a back draft? They probably did but they could've done a better job at damage control if they waited.

So far it's been reported from multiple sources, Only capcom is trying to deny it. Even some people from OTHER companies are saying the same, that Capcoms being total [Top Spin]s about this.

The Great Gonzo

Whether or not this is true...Yeesh. YEESH. After I suggested that someone calmly try to get answers out of them there, to boot...

Acid

At this point it doesn't really matter if true or not.

Reputational damage has been done, and Capcom will have a hard time recovering from that. If they manage at all.

My only response to this is:

That is perhaps the best summary of recent events that I have ever seen.

Thank you very much, Pyro.  I needed that.

I don't know about Comic-Con, but Reverge Labs (Skullgirls dev) is pretty ticked over the cancellation in general.
