I don't know if it was at one point, but it isn't now. There's a Greasemonkey script specifically designed for getting a specific post number.
Also, my reasoning had to do more with screwing around with the feature of a particular format of board. Although they have "Anonymous" as their names, there's really no doubt that for fifteen seconds, a poster can garner unwarranted adulation and praise, and it's not that much different from having a name on the internet (I mean, when you see all these links to one post, people are giving attention to one guy anf they know it, and the poster gets a big, fat chubby).
PS: I don't remember really asking a question. I dunno. Pay this no heed, I'm just nitpicking at semantics as usual.
Adulation and praise? It's just people going along with it for the sake of the fun. It's not that big a deal, and normally, it's just laughter. It's a damn meme being expressed, not people actually congratulating each other. You got forum members in every single forum that get their dicks sucked with every single thing they type. Why should it be a problem if a bunch of people nobody really knows about who they are or what they do, have fun with the only number they have in their hand, and use it as a runaway joke that's lasting years? It's all that is. A joke. And it makes people able to just ignore stuff they don't like instead of recognizing people nitpicking at this and that.
See, I'll say this with honesty and sincerity. 4chan's probably the nicest, kindest and fairest place on the net. Everybody gets treated the exact same way. It may be an internet hate machine, but when they like something and spread something, it's most likely amazing. And some of the best damn humor moments there are, have come from there. It's a "the moment" thing, where information is instant and no thread ever sits quiet for days. You get what's happening, with the people that are there at the moment, and you normally get what you want out of it. It's fair, standard, and hatred spews all ways, all kinds from there. Makes it the best place to be. They will joke, mock around and call you a [Top Spin]. But they call everyone a [Top Spin]. And you get standardized as anyone that can be there. No ostracization, no one-chances, no condemnation. Just acceptance of whatever it is the exact same way it is.
Anyway, back on topic. Here's some pics.
