Native is the wrong Aspect Ratio. Good for screenshots and video. For general gameplay 4:3 is best.

If it was on a home console in front of the TV, alright.
But besides that, I can't play without native (or pixel) ratio.

If there's a feature for it, I resize to 2x size and still keep the aspect ratio somehow.

The native resolution of pixels the game is rendered at is not the same as what it is meant to be displayed at(in the case of SotN). There would either have to be some skewing, or an improper ratio.

Dracula X IS 256x207, AND they added borders to "look like" it was run on old systems (256x240, normally 256x224 for SNES/Mega Drive). Later on, developers added artwork or detailed background layers into the games, so these layers were made in wider size. (X6 Title Screen is an example). ^^
