Did anyone get an update when you started up Skullgirls today? I did but I have no idea what's it for. It sure wasn't adding any command list, art gallery, for fixing any glitchy split-second sprite disappearance. :\

I finally got the game.. but I won't be able to play it for awhile, since my brother's once again gonna play it to death. >.>

That and the Modern Genesis spriting project I'm participating in, sorry I won't play with you guys!

Workshop/DA/YT/Photobucket なにかんがえてるの!?
So its about ass now huh? EVEN THE ASS HAS 'EXCEEDED'!

One mention of LEGENDS and everyone goes batshit.  :\

Yep, every time when someone mentions that game people get energized for an apparent reason whatsoever. It's like this everywhere else, trust me.

It got really messy to find my sprite and comic topic, so it's in my sig.

Well look at the bright side, they might get the first DLC characters out by the time you get a chance to play Skullgirls. Also, Reverge Labs just got the soundtrack out at Amazon too.

Posted on: April 27, 2012, 02:26:22 PM
Europe and Australia release date for PSN: May 2nd.

Also the version update for the 360 version was from Microsoft and it's suppose to fix some issues with using non-standard controllers (let's say flight sticks or a Rock Band guitar) to play the game.

I've been hearing the Creators have male characters planned, actually one of the Creators had male characters planned since High School IIRC, as the first new DLC character.

Also I've been thinking of getting this game, might as well get the demo first, but I've heard good things about the gameplay especially the Infinite Prevention system they built in, fast gameplay, great online, etc...

However I probably won't be able to get the full game until next Friday as I don't have the money to buy another $20 PSN Card.

Nope, the first new DLC will be either Umbrella or Squigly, since they were the ones from the original cast. After that, who knows? There are a lot of characters planned (males included), but that depends more on the publisher than Reverge Labs as far as I know.

I just got word that the team behind Skullgirls got laid off Reverge Labs, the studio they worked to make the game. However, Autumn Games still holds IP and the Skullgirls devs are going by a new company of Lab Zero Games, as the new title screen points out. This was also one of reasons why patch and DLC characters have been through hell.

-EDIT-
The PC version's not coming out until 2013.

-EDIT 2-
From Shoryuken...
Quote
Welcome to Lab Zero Games.

Forward-thinking and retro-minded, Lab Zero Games is an independent game development studio founded by the original team that brought you Skullgirls. Lab Zero intends to continue its critically-acclaimed work on Skullgirls as well as leverage its unique design and artistic sensibilities to develop new games.

As many of our fans know, Skullgirls had more than its fair share of difficulties getting to market, but thus far none have been quite this dire: last June, the entire Skullgirls team was laid off from Reverge Labs.

To try to prevent such calamities from befalling us, our games, or our fans again, the Skullgirls team decided to form its own studio.

Autumn Games, the publisher and owner of the Skullgirls property, is fully behind the new studio and will continue to work with us in the future on all Skullgirls-related endeavors, such as the just-released patch, more merchandise and a few other things we can’t quite announce yet.

…However, we are sad to report that these unfortunate circumstances have delayed the resumption of work on the PC version, and indefinitely delayed the first DLC character. Don’t take this as a sign that we’ve given up – we haven’t, and are doing everything in our power and then some to resume work on these as soon as possible. When we have more news, we’ll be sure to let you know.

So there you have it.

Not being able to tell anyone about these rather significant developments has almost been as bad as being largely unemployed and unable to continue our work on Skullgirls. We have always strived to be as open and transparent as our business and legal obligations will allow, but we feared news of these events would discourage our fans more than our conspicuous silence would. Being able to finally fill everyone in on everything is a huge relief, and we hope you understand our reasons for keeping quiet until now.

Everyone at Lab Zero would like to thank all of our amazing fans for their patience and support through this ordeal and as we (re)start on this new adventure. And even though this change was largely out of our control, the Skullgirls team still sincerely apologizes for the delays and lack of information in recent months.

We’re doing this for you, and we can’t wait to get back to work!

Until then,

Sincerely,
Lab Zero Games

Oh lordy lord lord! I think they'll hit their mark by tomorrow or later on in the day (it's 1:30am over here for me)! This is insane! The fans REALLY love Skullgirls! XD

EDIT: Make that $123,271 now. They made about $500 in just a few minutes! Sheesh! XD

They have hit the $173k mark for Squigly!

Just $2k more and Squigly will get her own Story Mode! It's amazing how devoted the fans are and how much they love Skullgirls! And it took less than 24 hours to reach that height!

The game's finally up on the Japanese PS Store, surprisingly

I've been hearing it's been #1 on PSN since it came out, it looks like Skullgirls is doing great in Japan. ^_^

I want to help too but it irks me when there's nothing I can do since my family's money is getting to house repairs and avoid ending up homeless in about 2 years, not that anyone understands my financial frustration...

Hmm... that is quite the predicament. :\
Well, even if you love a game, your health, home, life, and family come first before anything else. It's not the end of the world, please there's 29 days left to contribute, and if you don't have a home anymore how are you going to play the games?

Life is unfair and you have to make some hard choices in life, but it will work one day. By the way have you considering getting a job and opening a bank account? Though you have to use PayPal to donate to Lab Zero Games if you want to help out just to let you know. Maybe you can ask a friend to help you donate to them if you can... always look for different and other answers to your problems, there's more than one way to solve a problem.

And in other news... Lab Zero Games have gotten $191,795 for donations! We got Squigly AND her Story Mode in check... now we need to get to $375k for Big Band to be released and and $400 to get him, his own Story Mode so in a sense we're about halfway there! Going by what the fans accomplished in just ONE day it's safe to assume if might see the three DLC character and their Story Mode fairly soon in the future! ^_^

Posted on: February 27, 2013, 03:57:36 AM
http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/keep-skullgirls-growing/x/2512841

Holy moly! They have reached hit about 730,000 USD on this fundraising and getting to 750k will get as a Robo-Fortunate character to play as in her own Story (we already got her as a character but no Story Mode yet), which is a 4th DLC character we get for free!

We will be getting Squigly, Big Band, and a third Mystery Character voted by the fans to get into the game and ALL three of them will have a stage and Story Mode for it! Squigly is out in mid-June along with the PC release of Skullgirls with Big Band and the third Mystery Character being released 3 -4 months apart from each other so be ready as these characters will be free for a few months when they get released!

If they managed to hit 825k we will get another Mystery Character voted by the fans to get in as well as getting to 850k I believe will net as another Story Mode. Today's the last day so if you want to contribute a little bit to Lad Zero Games go ahead! ^_^

Let's get us another character into the game!

At 785k already with less than 3 hours left on the clock!

Will they make it? Will they hit 825k and 850k next to earn a 4th Mystery Character for DLC AND a Story Mode for them?

Stay tuned after these messages! 8)

Posted on: March 28, 2013, 04:16:33 AM
The campaign is finally over and the grand total of funds contribute to Lab Zero Games is... drum roll please!

$829,829!

Nice to the generous donations from fans all around the world Lab Zero Games will be able to create FOUR new DLC characters for Skullgirls the first two being Squigly and Big Band (the former being 1/3 done during the time they were "laid off") and the third and fourth one being two Mystery Characters that will be voted by the fans! Also because they reached the goal of 725k to help Mane6 out with their fighting game "Fighting is Magic" and got to 750k we will see Robo-Fortunate be made into a playable DLC character instead of just a voice pack!

However, sadly, the second Mystery Character will NOT get a Story Mode as Lab Zero Games needed 850k to get it funded so we were off by about $21,000 which isn't too bad.

But look on the bright side, we will get FIVE new DLC characters for Skullgirls (and who knows, Lad Zero Games might be able to give the second Mystery Character a Story Mode somehow) in the future.

By mid-June Squigly will make her debut and the PC launch of Skullgirls will be released! Time about a great year, right?

Good news! Apparently thanks to some "non-disclosed agreements" the Skullgirls Team got an extra $40,000  to use for their game and now the second Mystery Character will get a Story Mode as well! Here's the full message from their site:

Posted by Peter Bartholow

"What a month. And what a night!

With one minute left to go, our Indiegogo campaign crossed the $825,000 mark, meaning that there will be a second fan-selected character developed! The tally ultimately settled at an auspicious $829,829 a few minutes after the campaign was over, as the final rush of contributions cleared Paypal.

There’s even better news, too. Non-disclosure agreements with the powers that be prevent me from getting too specific, but in the last week one of our character development line items has evaporated, meaning we’ve got an additional $40,000 to play with. Naturally we’ll be using your extra money to give the 2nd fan-selected Mysterious Character a stage and story mode.

So here’s a breakdown of everything that will be coming to Skullgirls in the coming months:

- Squigly - Squigly’s Stage - Squigly’s Story Mode - Big Band - Big Band’s Stage - Big Band’s Story Mode - Fan-selected Character #1 - Fan-selected Character #1’s Stage - Fan-selected Character #1’s Story Mode - Fan-selected Character #2 - Fan-selected Character #2’s Stage - Fan-selected Character #2’s Story Mode - Robo-Fortune - Robo-Fortune’s Stage - Robo-Fortune’s Story Mode - Bonus Stage: River King Casino - Bonus Stage: The Glass Canopy - “Republican Double” Voice Pack by Kaiji Tang - “Female Announcer” Voice Pack by Cristina Vee - “Salty Parasoul” Voice Pack by Erin Fitzgerald - “Drunk Commentator” Voice Pack by Joshua Tomar - “Valley Girl Painwheel” Voice Pack by Danielle McRae - “Saxploitation” Voice Pack by Rich Brown - “Anime Peacock” Voice Pack by Sarah Williams - “Real Soviet Announcer” Voice Pack by MikeZ - “New Black Egrets” Voice Pack by Kaiji Tang

If you still wish to contribute to the campaign, you can send Paypal payments directly to operations labzerogames com. We will be honoring the reward tiers for two weeks, so be sure to make it clear which tier you want and provide your shipping address, if applicable."

http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/keep-skullgirls-growing/x/2512841?c=activity

And for those who contributed will get to vote who this two new DLC characters will be!

"We’ll be moving forward on the character voting soon. The vote will be conducted in four rounds, lasting roughly a week each:

- Round 1: All characters, 4 votes - Round 2: Top 16 characters, 3 votes - Round 3: Top 8 characters, 2 votes - Round 4: Top 4 characters, 1 vote
Since we will be voting on two characters, each will have its own voting process, so the two campaigns don’t interfere with the other.

Also, this will be a blind vote – there will not be any interim updates provided within each round.

For each round, you will receive an e-mail with a voting link
Any votes that we deem suspicious will be rejected

So read up on the characters, start campaigning for your choices, and keep an eye on your e-mail!"

Read all of the characters' profiles here and decided who gets to be the new playable character!
http://www.labzerogames.com/3rdcharacter/

By the way I'm voting for Marie and Minette!

"In addition to voting, we’re beginning to work on fulfilling all of these goods that came with the various reward tiers. Because a number of the items rely on the results of the votes, such as the T-shirts and posters, we can’t begin designing those until the votes have concluded. The Physical OST will likely require Michiru Yamane to complete all of her work, as well.

Here is an extremely tentative schedule for the reward distribution:

- By 4/31/2013: Wallpapers, Digital OST, Digital Sketchbook, Digital Art Compendium, Half Minute Hero Codes - By 6/31/2013: Steam Beta Codes - By 7/31/2013: T-Shirt, Poster, Postcards, Physical OST
All custom rewards will take longer to resolve, but we’ll be in touch soon to start working on those with everyone individually.

Finally, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our unbelievable fans.

When we started this campaign a month ago, we weren’t certain that we’d completely fund Squigly. When we immediately funded Squigly, we didn’t think we’d fund Big Band. When we funded Big Band, we were certain that we couldn’t fund a 3rd charcter… right? And we thought there was absolutely no way that we’d fund a 4th character.

…But like clockwork, each and every time you proved us wrong. With your passion, dedication and generosity, you changed our disbelief in our campaign’s potential into disbelief in our indescribably good fortune.

Few game developers get to feel what we’re feeling right now, and we are eternally grateful for your efforts on our behalf.

Again, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Sincerely,
Lab Zero Games"

Wow! Amazing, right?

I was gonna mention this sooner but distracted from other things, but since I saw these at Danbooru just now, THIS is the perfect time to bring up this up!

Zone-tan IS OFFICIALLY DLC!!!
Never mind...

Quote from: Screw Attack on ZONE's promotion
This is like if the guy behind Black Lagoon made a femdom hentai. Wait, that happened. This is like if Medaka Box was drawn by a doujin artist. Oh, that happened too. This is like if my favorite hentai artist made a manga about Sega and Nintendo fighting each other as fantasy characters that got an anime adaptat-okay, so this isn't the weirdest news I've heard related to porn.

ZONE, infamous internet flash artist and maker of many porn parodies of things you like, is a pretty big supporter of Lab Zero and their Skullgirls game. The cult fighter has been fighting hard to stay afloat and gain a larger tournament base, with a lot of problems getting in the way. They were pushed out of EVO in a drive due to SSB fans going into a massive donation wave (and being rather scummy dicks about it, but that's another story altogether), while plans to add new characters were put on hold due to money issues (although they did get an exibition tourney at EVO out of respect for their help in the donation drive). To try and fix this set back, the guys in charge decided to start an Indiegogo drive for their game in order to add a new character. It's nearly over and has been a huge success, gaining enough money to add two new characters and other extra features.

Part of the reason was due to the popular ZONE heavily supporting the project. See, he's a huge fan of the game, as you can tell from the really good porn he's made based off of it. It's honestly impressive how much he gets the art style down. Needing new animators and impressed by his work, even if it isn't exactly kid friendly, ZONE was hired on as an animator for the game, saying the following on Tumblr:

Quote from: ZONE
"I'm extremely lucky to have been given the opportunity to work with such a talented team, and I hope that I can do good work for them. And no, I can't add any frames with nipples in them, sorry. I will make sure that parts jiggle as much as possible though."

Congrats go out to ZONE, proving that when it comes to nerdy things, a life supported by shameful hobbies can actually be rewarded if you do those shameful things well enough. While you're at it, donate to the Indiegogo page before the drive ends, linked above in the second paragraph.

Quote from: The Escapist - So........Zone-tan as a Playable character in Skullgirls!!!!
For those they don't know Lab-Zero successfully funded not only their first DLC character Squigly, but also other 4 DLC characters and many other extra things like Bonus Stages, Extra Voices etc.

But now I just learned just now an 6th character will come in the Skullgirls videogame.

If you've been keeping track of Skullgirls news recently, you'll know that Squigly and several more DLC characters were funded thanks to the Indiegogo campaign. What you may not know is that in addition to that, I have donated $225,000 to Lab Zero in order to fund the development of ZONE-tan as a playable DLC character in Skullgirls.
One of the reasons why Squigly is taking so long is because we are developing ZONE-tan in tandem with her with plans to release them both simultaneously in around 2 months. Currently, she is still in very early development, although we have her idle and walk cycles completely colored, as well as one of her specials and most of her regular standing attacks. Since there is no need to audition for her, Caxx has also already been able to record all her vocal samples.
To get people hyped up, I'm providing you with a small content pack to show her off in her current state. Included in it are:
1) Screenshots of ZONE-tan in game, running on an early PC build of the game that also incorporates my vector UI (many other game elements are not yet implemented, e.g. BG sprites).
2) A character concept sheet for ZONE-tan explaining how she will play.
3) A sample of her voice pack, containing several sounds that she will use.

Sadly, because you understand why I don't have the download, you must search for yourself to see the .zip file and get it yourself!!!!
Source: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.404836-So-Zone-tan-as-a-Playable-character-in-Skullgirls

Congrats to ZONE making these unexpected turn of events happen.
